It depends. You can probably make more targeting people offline so they won't be comparing your pricing side by side with competitors and I've found are easier to close. Good luck.

Well, I closed a sale in about 5 minutes offline just explaining what SEO is, and it takes far more effort than that to get people online to buy from you. Of course, since he was my first customer, I gave him a slight discount of $50, just to get a review from him when we're done with his campaign.

You'll likely find that offline is much easier to sell people, because people offline usually have no idea how (or any desire) to do anything of value for their business online, besides buying advertising. Just tell them what you can do for their site, and it's a fairly easy close, as long as no one else got there first.

Although i would do both, i would have to roll with offline marketing. If you visit the offline marketing section of this forum, you will find the best tips for selling your web design services to potential offline clients.

Online marketing will provide with you far more potential customers than offline marketing. Imagine the difference between the population of your city versus the number of Internet users around the world! Most people will search the Internet first for web designing services.

However, as someone pointed out, you have hell of a lot of competition online. Therefore doing your business offline may also get a good number of local customers. People will be more willing to trust the credibility of your business if you deal offline.

The best marketing that worked for me on promoting my design services in the past was word of mouth and networking events... Online marketing was less effective and costly...

      Hi,

Could you give some examples of such events?

I have to say that I usually have closed every single client that I had talk to in person because they know and trust me now and I'm very personable.

I find that decreases when I close only on the phone...

and that further decreases when I close by email....

Both methods can be effective if you have solid strategies to implement. Offline is really hot now because offline businesses typically don't know how to market online and need help.
