What do people think when they hear "Freebie" ?

Just wondering what customers think when they hear "freebie". Do they feel like they are getting a quality product or do they typically think that since it's free it must not be all that great or ?

    For me, freebie means cr@p. But its my own opinion, other people may think otherwise.

    It depends on the context.

    I agree with typoo999 generally. As soon as I hear freebie, I automatically start thinking it must be low quality and my defences go up. However, if it's a paid product and I have the opportunity to get it for free I'm a lot less defensive.

    For example, if I'm on a website and it says "Click here to signup for my newsletter and get your free report" I'm always a bit sceptical. However, if a seller that I've purchased from in the past runs a buy 1 get 1 free sale, I'm much less sceptical about it because I'm getting a paid product for free.

    I think it really depends on the vendor you are dealing with but to be honest it screams give me your email address so I can bombard you with my sales pitch or other offers so I can make a buck.

    To be honest most (not all) of the freebies offered are mostly garbage or PLR crap but there are a few diamonds in the rough.

    As they say...you pays for what you get!!

        This, and then comes the "it's too good to be true" thoughts if the person is making some kind of grand claim and yet giving away his "golden" goose for free. Yeah right.

      When I first started out in IM I loved getting freebies. A lot turned out to be crap but there were some good ones too. That's from hindsight because it's easier to distinguish the crap with experience. Now I'm far more cynical, knowing that freebies are there to get you to join lists so I mostly steer clear unless it's a free trial of something that's going to be on the market at a price soon.

      Now that I'm on the listbuilding trail I realise that it's better to offer really good freebies that will please the recipient and hopefully they will become customers because their initial contact with me has been worthwhile for them.

        I agree with you wholeheartedly that there are some "gold nuggets" amongst the crap. If you are going to offer a freebie then you best fill its content with nothing but quality content. Just slapping a PLR together for the sake of building a list isn't good business ethics to begin with. Those types of people are just opportunity seekers and nothing more. They offer "Shinny New Buttons" that don't exist in the first place. There's no such thing in this business.

        If you are giving a freebie out - you best make sure that freebie makes a best first impression (that freebie has to be a part of YOU) otherwise - kiss your reputation goodbye. Word of mouth travels fast on the internet and you only have ONE chance to hook your subscribers trust.You only have ONE chance to prove to your subscriber that you're worth keeping in their inbox.

        If you are SERIOUS about this business and truly want to make money online - you WILL offer GOOD VALUABLE CONTENT and in turn - you won't have the problem of subscribers not trusting you. However - once they sign up to receive their freebie - it's vitally important to maintain a trusting relationship with your list and CONTINUE to give them QUALITY. Giving is always better than receiving. You have to nurture your list.

        Communicate with them as though they are standing right in front of you and talk with them as though they are your friend (not a credit card!). You hang with friends and share things with them. You have to do the same thing with your list.

        I get so tired of seeing "wanna be" marketers that try to be "sound-alikes" in my inbox. They are the ones who make it difficult for the "true blues" and that's why it's so important to "STAND OUT" from the rest of that kind of crowd.

        Take for example - If someone is new to the Internet Marketing business and they really are serious about wanting to learn about it so they can begin to make money online - it's imperative that you let them know you can be trusted by giving them good quality content in their freebie. If your freebie helps them - you are pretty much guaranteed a loyal subscriber and eventually a new future customer.

        Everybody wants to make money online (don't we all!) but most are not willing to work at it in the correct manner. There are no magic buttons in this business. Whatever happened to treating others like you want to be treated? In this business - there's no such thing as "instant gratification".

    when i hear freebie i think rubbish.
    In the WSO forum i dont look at any posts that have Free in the title as i presume it will be rubbish or incomplete and then an upsell, but if the same thing had a price even $1 i would look at it seriously

      That's interesting and well worth remembering!

      When I hear something is free I generally have my guard up. I won't necessarily pass up the freebie, but I'll usually consider whether it's likely to be poor quality or has some sort of catch.

    I actually think of a free item JUST as a free item! Most people give free ebooks to people that signs up for they're newsletter, I think this actually is a great way of doing things, I've learned a lot from these ebooks, some are junk ofcourse but some are actually very good!

    I'm now having a squeezepage that gives a very good ebook for people that sign up and unlike most people I just give valuable content, NO click here to buy blah blah. ofcourse i have links that people can press, but its on the sides of the newsletter and I never ever try people to buy my product. This actually is the best way to get sales from a list - Give Value.

    That became a little offtopic at the end but my point is that someone actually gives free stuff that has awesome value! Don't think that a free ebook or whatever is junk before you look inside, it might be awesome!

    That's what I think anyways

    Whenever I see a squeeze page with a free gift, I just see a low quality item that is worthless to me.

    Then again... I've been around the block now so I've seen a lot of what these free gifts have to offer but to a newbie, they could be really helpful.
