Is your blog ok as a subdirectory or should it be a top level domain.

I started a blog a while ago and at the time I had no idea
what I was doing. I had picked out a domain name but didn't
put my blog there. Instead I used mydomainname.com/blog. I
did this because I thought I wanted to save the top level domain
name for later but now I realize I probably will never use it. As
it stands now it just says "This site is not ready to go but please
go check out my blog at:" mydomainname.com/blog

I have many backlinks to my blog and I obviously don't want to
lose them. Also I don't want to confuse my regular followers and
also what about messing up RSS feeds.

So my question to you all is should I change my blog over to my
top level domain name, mydomainname.com, or leave it as is. And if
I do how should I do it. Should I just forward everything from
mydomainname.com/blog to mydomainname.com, or is there a better way
to do this.

Thanks,
Jeff Sargent

Is your blog the main site or is your blog about your main site?

If your blog is the main site it should be the top level domain.

If your blog is there to support your main site it is fine where it is at mysite.com/blog/

You could use mod-rewrite and 301 redirects to correct your problems

When I first created the domain I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it so I set up my blog in a subdirectory.

Now I know that my blog will remain the main site.
