Are google images free to use?

If I use them on my site can they be harmful when it comes to copyright issue?

Or image owner usually does not care about the images?

Google images are not copyright-free. You can get in trouble with some of the images on there. It's best to find a place that has free stock photos for your purposes

Eeeeek, no, don't just pull images off GIS. You'll get beaten up, killed, and maybe even sued.

It does happen, but it's always in bad taste - and all you have to do is steal from the wrong person. POOF. It's a real landmine.

All the people are right, you can get into a lot of trouble. Here is a resource that I use where you can get free images to us.
    everystockphoto - searching free photos
You just need to check the licence on the image, but you can use most as you see fit.

    I hope this helps.

If you are serious about your site and marketing, you only want to use your own images there. It's some extra work and extra time, but there are a lot of options for finding images. Network with a designer or photographer. Trade services. Buy a camera and start shooting. Check Fiverr.com and see who's offering image packages at affordable rates.

Google Images is really just a springboard for ideas. I'm currently in the process of replacing all the images on my site with ones that I have created myself or photos I've personally taken. I have royalty free images there now, but they are from Flickr's Creative Commons and the like.

The images on your site are an additional source of traffic. The key is to title the images with keywords so they show up in Google Images. This also opens you up to others stealing your images.

The best way to fight theft is to watermark the images you post on your site. I've decided to offer the graphics I create as free downloads for others to freely use. The photographs are going into a stock image site that I'm putting together. At $1 per image, it's a cost-effective solution for people looking for images to use. Images are a big part of web design, and I'd rank them right up there with the web copy.

When searching Google Images make sure you select the 'Advanced' options and then in the 'Usage Rights' box select "free to use or share, even commercially"

Thanks for the tip, Will... never investigated the advanced options for Google Images. Now I know.

The images aren't copyright free, but you can do an advanced search to search for license free images. You don't want to get no DMCA notices

I've often wondered this. Do you think companies who insert watermarks into their videos and images are wanting people to share those videos and images because obviously the watermark then promotes their product/service....

      OR

By placing the watermark in their video or image are they saying you are not allowed to use that image at all?

Don't even dare to use them. You can easily look at sxu.hu or morguefiles.com those are the sites I am using currently.

If you are looking to buy cheap photos then I would recommend photodune.net ($1 per image)

According to one Warrior, the owners of these photos can easily use About - TinEye to see where their images now and how they are being used. So be careful when using one and make sure to comply with the terms of use of individual sites.

Usually an email to the owner requesting permission would solve all your problem of using any images in the website.
