What's Your Kindle Secret?

I am sure anyone who publishes books has a kindle secret that think they do really well. Whether it is the writing part or the outsourcing part or maybe even the title keyword researching / picking great titles.

I would love to hear from you what your secret is. You don't have to give them all away (or you can if you want to)

Please leave a comment. I am working on some things to help book publishers help each other!

Let's make it together!

Using social media to hype your Kindle Book and get more sales.
Try Ping.fm and Hootsuite, hook them up with a blog highlighting
    Kindle book subjects.

    Sound good?

    Hope this helps.

Upload several books at once. Amazon loves when you publish more than one book in a go, and they reward you with better positioning.

A really good cover can sell your books fast. That is something I like to do along with doing lots of research before I start writing.

When I first started, I didn't have time to write my own Kindle Books. So I uploaded about 150+ public domain books to put books on my kindle bookshelf to see if people would buy.

The first secret: Know how to format the books. Get the .rtf files from Gutenberg and just format, add some illustrations, annotations, introductions & upload a book a day. I did that for about 3 months.

I was surprised that people actually bought them. My first month had about $57. And even more surprising now is that a few of the public domain books get bought 2 or 3 times a day and these are not hungry buyers niche

The downside is that with public domain books, I get only 35%. Even if I raise the price to $3+, it is still a very low income, but they are still able to pay my internet bills. This is all passive income.

So when I saw these consistent sales with the public domain books last year, I started writing Best Sellers books that give 70% income with lots of sales/day.

Pick a strong niche that no one else is really competing.

Then use a pen name so that marketers cannot figure out what you are doing. :p

After all, if you did the first step right, you don't want a bunch of people, who did not do the proper research, copying you and competing with you.

Not sure if it's really a secret, but don't see it listed here so I will mention it. Make sure to have an About the Author page in all of your Kindle titles:
-List your other published Kindle title urls.
-Include Your Amazon Author page url
    -Include your Website url

Great points Amy. I would also include social media URL's and make sure all of them are also "clickable".

Great idea! I'm going to do just that.

      But, this makes me wonder.

If I edit a Kindle book (add an "About the Author" page) that's already for sale , and has been for awhile, will that affect the rankings I've earned in my category, as well as the position when someone searches relevant keywords?

Try to connect with readers of your books and books in your niche on Facebook and Twitter. Promote your books there.

When looking at topics, I usually find topics where there are a few books there with reviews but not to many. (Anywhere from 5 books to 60 works for me.) Make a point to read the reviews of other books and see why they got anything other than 5 stars so you can make your book BETTER than the other ones.

Get a great cover. I get mine on Fiverr because I managed to find someone who does covers I love. EVERY one she has ever made me has been fantastic. Try different cover designers until you find one you like.

If you are doing a lot of books in the same niche, brand yourself! Make a logo that you can put on ever cover and pick a brand name.

Yeah, no kidding. We can PM you all day long, but you cannot respond to us, because you don't have enough posts.

I'm looking to get started with Kindle but I don't really know where to begin. I've never written an ebook. I've had a ghostwriter but I'd like to start writing my own ebooks.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

What kind of ebook are you wanting to write: fiction or nonfiction?

My question is: are all of your published ebooks instructional in nature (how to, etc.), or are they something else? I have never published a Kindle book before, so I am curious as to what types of ebooks you have been successful with.
