Need advice, please help!

Ok so I posted in the 'off-topic' forum last night, asking (read:begging) for work, and didn't realise that I was in the wrong section (WF Newbie), the thread was moved to the hired section but I don't have the $20 to pay for the ad.
I'm basically in a very tight bind and it seems that advertising my services is my best bet, from the information I've gathered here. My question is, are there other forums/areas on the web that I can advertise on for free? (I'm not sure if it's blasphemous to ask for recommendations of another forum on here!)
I am regularly checking the classified section here for people who are hiring.
I'm in a very tight spot and any advice you can offer would be welcome.

There are certainly forums with no paid sections that you could offer your services on. Their popular for the more autonomous seo service providers, being on the down low makes sense for some seo sources.

Of course the freelance marketplaces like odesk, elance vworker or freelancer can be good for those with design or coding skills in particular, no fees for workers in many, it takes a while to develop a positive history which is important for winning bids on projects.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I've applied for jobs on Elance, Guru etc (content writing) but as you say, building a reputation takes time, which I'm seriously lacking at the moment.

    Hi there

A good place to get started is fiverr.com. I know the gigs (jobs) are cheap but at least you can get earning straight away...and its very popular at the moment. In addition, there are ways you can upsell too to make the most of each sale!

    Good luck!

    Hi Wayne,
thanks for the response; yes I've had a look on fiverr.com, but again without a rating people are less inclined to give you a try.
Having said this, I'm kind of out of options right now and am still going to give it a go, along with anything else that's suggested!

    Hi there,

If you are desperate for money then you could have cash in hand by the end of the day - pack your gardening tools in the car, go knock on doors in an affluent area and offer to do their gardening for £8-£10 an hour and people will bite your arm off for work! Gardeners are hard to come by and £10 an hour is very cheap for one. I know in our area the gardeners are booked up weeks in advance and most aren't taking on work. With the onset of spring people are going to be keen to get their gardens sorted - particularly with the good weather this week.

It is going to take you time to build up work on Fiverr - you could create the maximum number of gigs per account and even create multiple accounts to post more gigs but you've still got the be offering something people want.

Remember too there are other gig sites outside Fiverr!

What skills do you have / services can you offer? There are other Internet marketing forums which don't charge for posting but again you are going to struggle without a reputation and the one I am thinking of in particular is very low budget - you get paid peanuts there.

If you are desperate for cash then look at the thread "What to do if you are desperate" that is in here - it's got some great advice. I'd recommend looking offline rather than online as it takes time online.

Drop me a line if youneed any more help and hope you find somethng soon!

    Cheers

    Jason

    Hi Jason,

Thanks for the message. Unfortunately, I've got no car and no gardening tools! I've had a look at the 'what to do when desperate' thread, but didn't find anything that would fit the bill for me.
I've gone down all the other avenues, selling my old things on ebay, applying for temp jobs, bidding on places like Elance and I'm really out of ideas now. Things like affiliate marketing take time too.

I'm a content writer, but things have been dead for a few weeks and so I'm really struggling.
I can't PM people as a newbie with less than 50 posts, however if any other ideas come to mind, feel free to send me a message with a contact email, any and all advice is very much appreciated!

why don't you post half (an excerpt) an article here and see if anyone wants it for their site f as long as they give you a recommend?

If you need reputation, you'll find out quick if youre going to get it from this site.

      Just my 2 cents

      Good Luck

    Hi GW,
Am I allowed to do that? Is that the same as advertising my services? I don't want the thread to get deleted because of it, but if it is allowed I'd be happy to post something. I don't have a huge amount of unpublished articles at my disposal; a few on the topic of Scoliosis, but not sure how useful that would be to anyone!

Heather - do you have the signature link facility? Not sure if there is a minimum post requirement.

If you do, you can advertise your services in your sig, just make sure that you don't sound as if your posts are directing people to your signature - there's a facility when making a post to put a tick in a box that will turn off your sig links for individual posts.

You could take a look at http://dailyarticle.com/ where you can submit articles for sale and set your own price.

Edit: Set yourself up a website to put in your sig link, where you tell people what you have to offer and include some samples of your work. If you can't afford your own domain/hosting at the moment, you can use weebly.com or blogger.com to set up a free site.

      Hi Carol,
Yes I checked in my profile settings, I think I need to do a few more posts before getting a signature link, but that's a good idea, thanks. I just discovered this forum over the weekend and so far am really impressed, so I'll definitely be participating and will get a signature at some point soon.
I'm hoping to set up a website in a few weeks time, just too cash-strapped to get it done at the moment, but I'll get there eventually!
