Is promotion via twitter worth it?

My impression from the twitter is that people add eachother without reading tweets. I've seen people with thousands of followers and just few junk tweets. Is it worth increasing your followers and expect some traffic increase from twitter links?

My experience would be an emphatic NO!

Social media isn't as warm as other traffic sources and I've never seen anything worthwhile coming from it. That's just me, maybe other Warriors will tell you different...

I personally do not like Twitter and would never promote on there. There are some marketers who have managed to get leads and sales off of Twitter. If you are willing to spend some time learning the skill set necessary to turn Twitter into a viable traffic source then it will be worth it.

I have never liked Twitter personally and have never used it in the past. I guess it depends on your circumstances, but to me you could better spend your time in other places promoting your product to get a much better outcome.

Someone I enjoy following in the email marketing space is Ken Magill - self appointed email marketing industry investigative reporter. He's an amazing writer and damn funny. He used to think Twitter was a stupid waste of time and then he had to write an open letter of apology to Twitter for his lack of faith

I thought I'd share that because I usually respond that Twitter is great for brand building and can be an excellent traffic source, but that was getting repeatitive and Ken's funnier too.

I'm also trying to promote my business on Twitter. One resource I have found to be very helpful is Amy Porterfield's book- Facebook Marketing All in One for Dummies. She has some great ideas.

Twitter is really about HOW you use it. If you're there just to promote your stuff, then no; it's not worth it. In fact, that is a spectacular waste of time. Go dabble in PPC or something else.

Twitter is wonderful for getting traffic and sales IF you build relationships first. I've used Twitter for affiliate marketing (and it works). I shared about my PLR site and got sales that day. It all depends on the approach you take.

Don't forget that Twitter is a social site so you have to share and you have to BE social.

Anything else and your tweets will be treated as spam.

The key is to have followers and only follow people that want to talk about your niche you are promoting. For example my wife runs a twitter account about fashion. And she has legitimate followers that want to talk about fashion. Not followers that are just advertising. She will tweet a few special deals a day that she "comes across" on the internet to her followers. Of course these are her affiliate links. This process does really well. We currently have over 50 niche specific twitter accounts that my wife and her friend run for us. Put it to you this way my wife quit her nursing job to sit at home and tweet all day.

Let's just say if you're going to promote on Twitter you need some automated tools.

    Let's talk some numbers.

Say you create 100 Twitter accounts.

You can typically get around 40 new targeted followers on each account daily.

In one month you would have 112,000 followers.

If only one half of one percent (.005) of those converted than it would be 560 conversions.

    If it was a $10 survey, $5600.

Yes, of course you can make a lot of money with Twitter.

    Numbers don't lie.

Personally twitter is more a celebrity tool for connecting with the masses. If you are famous you can create an excellent following but for us mortals it's generally a waste of time.

In my opinion it depends on the person. If you want to do the blackhat way then you have to create lots of accounts. And if you want to do the Whitehat way then you will have to build the account with thousands of followers which will take time.
