My sites have been hacked, how to clean them?

Hi Guys

I thought my sites were suffering due to a Panda update, as it turns out, I think all of my sites (I guess at server level) have been hacked. Even if I type the URLs directly, it redirects to something dodgy, or at best, just bounced back to Google.

This is a first for me and I'm clueless! I'm with hostgator. How on Earth do I go about cleaning it, I don't know where to start.

...or who can I pay to sort it out, or any other suggestions?

Many thanks
Phil

    Hi Phil,

    Sorry to hear that.

I've gone through such problems before.

So I wrote some tips in WF blog :

    1. Better Safe Than Sorry

    2. Why The Hell Do I Need A VPN

There is also this recent WF post " insane amount of hacking going on " which I replied to.

    Check them out.

Best way to clean them is to contact your hosting provider.

I just went through this with about ten sites. It really sucks!

Good thing you're with Hostgator, call them ASAP and they'll take care of your sites on their end.

If your virus was the same as mine "Warning Headers already sent etc.. etc.."

They won't be able to fix it, but PM me and I'll sent you the codex that I used to fix it.

You should watch bang goes theory, today's episode. Tips- do not use free public wifi and never use the same passwords on every website.

Hostgator will most likely assist you with this.

I doubt that host gator will assist you on this. You need to go to oDesk and outsource a website cleanup. It might only cost you like $30-$50. Just make sure that the outsourcer has done cleanups before - usually they have this is a really simple thing for someone who knows what they're doing.

    Hi Gang

Thanks so much for all your suggestions, I think first port of call then will be hostgator, beyond that I may need to pay someone to look at it.

    Many thanks
