Google is stalking me... oh boy

I have been doing some research looking for designer dog clothes to setup a dropship store.

One of the sites I went to is glamour dogs. It is a cute place and spent some time looking around, gathering ideas for categories, presentation, etc.

But now, everywhere I go, if there is an adsense banner space, it will be... a glamour dogs banner.

It is insane. Looks like it is following me around jumping from one website to another.

I wouldn´t bother about this - as I am not an ad clicker anyway - besides for the little detail that I never roam the web logged in to any of google applications.

So the cookie is in my computer.

Have you experienced something like this?

They've been doing this for a while. It's a bit irritating, but like you said - not too bad. I don't click ads either.

Did you find anything good? I used to have a cavalier who would dress himself in tshirts he found around the house. Very cute

You wouldn't want to be looking at sex toys, then let your grandmother use your laptop!

I find it useful from a buyers point of view, say when looking for a laptop, I could find a supplier in my area ect, displayed neatly on the side of searches.

Then again large banners of new laptop deals could become irritating seeing I already have a new laptop.

I don't like it at all and I think it will kill the good adsense sites!

People visit websites based on a search query. They then hit a site with ads that have absolutely nothing to do with the content itself and I think that will not only discourage a lot of bloggers from displaying adsense on their blogs, but also decrease revenues dramatically created by organic search traffic that would have possibly clicked an ad.

    Hi there,

You can obviously opt out from this but they do this as they find that if you were searching for something then on another website you may find the ads which can not only help you but which can also help them & site owner make more revenue as compared to site content related ads.

    God bless you!

    Cheers
    Ciel!

Well I know for a fact that Google allows you to opt out of the cookie, and you can block it from your browser too.

For Adsense publishers, which to be fair hasn't described me for some time, I'm also fairly certain that you can disable the interest-based targeting so that your ads only display content related to your site. Again, you have to go through and manually make this setting since it's not the default.

No doubt it's annoying, whether it makes more money or not. The internet used to allow anonymity, now it's becoming the antithesis of privacy.

From a marketers viewpoint, re-marketing is an excellent tool. I wrote an interesting blog post explaining it here:
