Have you quit your 9-5 job?

yes I quit my job years ago. Now I can work anywhere I want. Before I quit my job I was making $25 per hour.

Not yet. I'm sure there's plenty on this forum that have though! I'm sure its at the point when you really start scaling up that you feel the freedom to quit the 9-5. Even if your online endeavors are making good money it has to be tough to pass up that extra paycheck every 2 weeeks.

Hmm...I quit my 9-5 and no it wasn't to do IM. I did that to stay home with my baby. Now there are two and I recently had the opportunity to return to the 9-5 thing (lecturing at a local university) but we decided against it for 2 reasons:

1. I'm not ready to take my kids to a creche and
2. The pay isn't half as good as what I get from IM

I left PizzaHut at 19 years old and started working full time online since that time. Well, not really full time... did not work much in the last 4-5 years

I'm still at my 9-5 job but also working on an online business. You never know when that extra cash will get in handy.

I've never had a 9-5! There were times I've had to pick up odd jobs and hustle offline because business online was slow, but thankfully I'm blessed to have been independent! I just hope I can keep it that way! =)

Some people are not even able to get jobs. So all they can do is IM.

I'm still 50-50 currently. maybe soon in the future

No, not yet. Ive been searching the warrior forum for offers and web page ideas. I come from offline marketing in the buisness oppurtunity field (ya know all those biz op magazines at the news stands.) Now looking to put up a biz op online and drive people offline-online to buy! Any good advice warriors?? Ive never been shot wrong from a warrior, and I see alot of op. here!

Yes I just went full-time Internet Marketing 3 months ago.. December 2011.. Before that I was earning $80 - $100 per day..

Yes and I do consider myself independent because I choose to work as and when I want.. I have time to go out relax and chill, have the time to read books, go to the gym etc..

Although my earning in IM is not as much as working in a full time job, but I'm still happy.. because I'm in control + IM has much greater earning potential compared to a 8 - 5 job..

Kinda love my life now, praise the Lord

Not yet, but it's a goal I'm absolutely committed to achieving.
My IM income is about 25% of the 6-figure income I get from my soul-crushing day job, but it's growing nicely.
As soon as I can maintain it at 125% for 6 months I'm going to grab the plant off my office desk, do a John Travolta strut out of the office, and head on home to burn my business shirts.

Yes I went full time this Monday - but due to my writing services.

I'm working on building a few niche websites and hope to earn passive income in the mean time. Luckily, my authority sites helps me make a couple hundred a month also.

With term internet marketer does this range from running an online store say selling products like gifts-cards, bags, shoes, hampers etc or is the majority selling seo techniques and ebooks? Is the majority doing an online business shipping goods or just file downloads?

Took voluntary redundancy in 2005 to start on-line business - was smartest move I have every made in my life. Will add it did take about a year before I got up to speed with online marketing and making a good living.

I quit and went full time with IM about 3 years ago... I was an electrician and here in AU they get paid very well, so it was a risk.

I couldn't make it work doing IM part time. Only when I went full time with IM did it force me to get stuff done and make it work.

I'm very grateful for IM as it saved me from a job I never liked.

Pretty neat job if you ask me... until recession killed it in 2008. I'm not a fan of income claims, so I'm not going to tell you how much I was making. But I'm gonna tell this: In the end, I was investing my blood, sweat and tears in someone else's business, not in my own.

Sometimes, I'm having nightmares where I had to go back to that 9 to 5 thing (it's more like 8 to 8 thing if you're in an industry like media). I do freelance work for the industry (consultation, writing, seminars etc.) but it's more like a hobby now, not a job.

Yep, August it would be 4 years ago.

I was laid off late last year. Since then, I've made a concerted effort to launch my own online biz, rather than succumb to another day job. I had already worked on getting my own business started for some time. Now that I'm working from home on this FT, I'm confident that my former career slowed down my efforts by at least 75%. I was disillusioned with the field I had been working in, anyway...long hours, pay not at all commensurate with effort I was putting in, and very little time and energy left to put toward anything else at the end of the day. I've thought for years that I could succeed at an online venture, if I had the time. So, now, I'm pouring my all into making my dream happen...knowing that if I can't make this a "go", the alternative is having to get another day job!

I never quit my job cuz i've never been in one yet...I firmly believe that i can nurture myself and gain experience plus earn good money by doing IM.

Yes, I quit my 9 to 5 in August 2011. The best decision I ever made!!

Yes I too quit my job (back in 2003) when I made 3k a month average
and have been a fulltime marketer ever since.

You should make sure that if you quit the 9-5, you regularly double your day job salary every month for 6 consecutive months, and then make sure you have residual incomes coming in, membership sites etc as well as your online income.

When I hit the 4k a month mark (4 years ago) I found it was time to take a more serious approach of my IM business. Now totally doing everything online. Also I love the fact I can reach way more people online, hence help a lot more people.. more than I could do when doing offline stuff! That's what keeps me going.. happy and satisfied customers.

I would recommend you to go all online as well when you can pay your bills at the end of the month and still have some money to invest.

Well I lost my business a couple of years and now I am dong IM only. Actually making more now!

Not yet, and dont plan to. Our online biz is still growing nicely but not to the point where the day job can go. Plus we want to hang in there with the day job til old enough to collect the Canada pension. Got quite a few years to go before that happens.

Hubby works the day job, I am the one at home tending to the online biz. Tho he's the brains behind it.

I think it is dangerous to quit 9-5 job however well we may do in Internet marketing. 9-5 job is a permanent earner for us whereas Internet marketing is seasonal I believe! Any comments?

quit my 9-5 2 years ago in exchange of an online job. Still 7 hours/day though but I get to work anytime but have to consume the 7 hours/day. Still very good when you are in the Philippines. Will be a full time IM (on my own) soon hopefully.

OH YES! lol many years ago....I was earning about $100k a year when I quit...so happy I did.....the freedom is amazing....I know know enough to never....ever go back to the "regular" workforce lol...it's amazing what knowledge can do for you!

I think IM is the most fun way to earn an income. And you're right...it's an 24/7 work load!

Quit my job four years ago, but lived off of savings and did a lot of consulting work in the beginning to make ends meet. Now I make enough money from my AdSense sites alone to not have to do anything else - so I don't.

I should say that I don't make as much money as I did when I had a "real job" (I worked in finance and the pay was great) but life is better than it has been for a very long time. I had a dream of being able to travel as much as I want, and that dream has come true. Most of 2011 was spent overseas - I got a second home in Malaysia, and spent months on the beaches in Thailand, and enjoyed some great times in England as well.

My two main keys to success:

1. Learning from the right people. I wanted to make a living with low maintenance niche sites, so I learned from someone who made a living from low maintenance niche sites - NOT some clueless clown selling ebooks on how to do it, as almost all the ebooks I've seen on the stuff are mostly useless "I think if you do this it will work" stuff and written by people who clearly don't do it themselves (hence the need to sell ebooks for a living).
2. Constant work. Constant productive work, I should say. When you realize that what you're doing works, then just keep doing it. And do the work that matters, and for me that is writing, buying and publishing articles. I publish a lot of articles every day, and that's what makes me money. I don't waste a lot of time of forums, facebook, twitter, blogs or any of that crap. I just publish stuff to my own sites and other people's sites. Some time is spent on forums, twitter etc to get some links and whatnot, and some time is spent finding more people to cooperate with and build relationships with. But most of my time is just spent publishing articles, which I am sure I could do in my sleep by now. I've made some changes in the way I work, but it still comes down to publishing material on my own sites (which I do more and more of) and submitting stuff to other sites (which I do less and less of).

If you're into making money online because you want an absolutely unbeatable lifestyle, then just work at it until you've got it. There's is so much money to be made online, and the rewards of being able to live like this is just... it's amazing stuff, to be honest. There WILL be ups and downs, and there ARE downsides to working like this too, but for me there's not many things I would trade it for. It's not just the fact that I am able to travel so much now, but also the fact that I can take a lot of time off from work and do other things (right now I spend a large part of my day in my studio composing music, for instance) which I could never do if I had a boss. Lately I've been thinking about doing some kind of volunteer work with animals too, so I'm looking into that. Could I take time off from a real job and do that and still make money at the same time? Obviously not. While I still need to do a little bit of work every day to keep things afloat, I do have sites that I have not worked on for a long time that make more money now than they did then. So knowing what I know now, I would have been an absolute fool had I not decided in 2007 that THIS is what I really should be doing. It turned out to be the right choice.

Wow, this is an excellent post! Very motivating. I still work a 9 to 5, but I'm aiming on doing IM full time Q4 2012.

Yes I was able to quit my 9-5 job about a year and a half ago. There are so many ways to make money online that there is no need to have a boss looking over your shoulder all day. All you have to do is find something that works and stick to it until you can leave the old job behind. My problem at first was bouncing around from one project to another and not really finding out if they would pan out first. Once I found something that worked and put my time into it the sky was the limit!

I have worked for myself for about 11 years now but the first 10 years were in direct sales offline. I have built up my own SEO business which is 100% online and have been doing this successfully for around 6 months...i.e. enough income to support myself!

I had a great IT/computer job. I spoiled my boss and then finally decided to kick the bucket and quit. After that, i gravitated to online marketing... well actually Ebay (where i became a Powerseller and Top Rated Seller). However the ebay lifestyle wasn't what i wanted. Make great money tho. Now i have 2 sites that are bringing in the bacon for me.

Yes, Quit over 2 years ago. It opens up a whole new world in many areas of life. My goal is to keep it this way for the rest of my life and I'm only 26. Having said this, I tried day and night to make money online for about 2 years ... I kept trying and the hard work payed off.

I never started! I'm lucky because of my age, a lot of people on here didn't get the opportunity.

I had a fat ugly female boss way back. There is no way I am going back to that. I make my living from clickbank now and have never really looked back.

P.S. I really did have a fat female boss. And for the records she never wore deodorant. There I said it. LOL

I sold my soul to full time IM about 4 years ago but got a bit waylaid last year when I wansered off into sports trading systems. This provided me with the headspace and the clarity to come back into IM with a mission and new focus on success

I've been in business for myself since 2010. With my previous work as a consultant I was, unfortunately, location dependent. Becoming a full time Warrior has solved that issue. ;-)

I do still grab a part time job now and then, though, especially if I start to feel too comfortable. It's a great reminder of why I wanted this so bad... :-P

Having a 9-5 job isn't the worst thing in the world! Although I make decent money from my blog (not the one in the signature, it's called English Harmony), I still have a job because I have more than enough time to work on my blog in the evenings.

Plus, I can rest assured that should anything happen to my blog - sudden traffic drops etc. - I'll never run out of money and I can balance my family finances just fine.

Everyone has a dream of making living from blogging, affiliate marketing and selling info products full time; yet few mention the following issues:

* social exclusion;
* procrastination;
* unexpected events.

Personally I was out of work for 9 months back in 2008. I thought I'd go nuts. I was sitting in the front of my laptop and just couldn't get anything done because of the following phenomenon:

The more time you have to do something, the less likely you're about to take action NOW!

Yes, I know the whole time management thing etc, yet I find that I perform best under pressure and late night content creation and video production is what keeps my creative juices flowing.

And after all - it's the big earners who can afford sacking their bosses and living nice lifestyles.

I make about 2k $ a month and it still wouldn't be enough to make my ends meet as I happen to have a family and live in an expensive country.

When I double my online income - I'll think about it. For now I enjoy getting the best of both worlds, and please don't get sucked into the "you've GOTTA quit your job to make any money online" myth! ;-)

I quit around when I was making $1,500 a month... More than a year ago now. I don't think I would ever go back now.

Quitting your 9-5 job is the best thing after having a 9-5 job in the first place.

Quit my job because I was forced to do so. But I'm glad I did because now I'm a full Internet Marketer

I was not earning anything off of my online efforts when I quit my day job, but I had some money saved up. I also had a low entry job. So in worst case I could have just gotten another one if I would have felt that I needed one.

Its good when you are your own boss.

I am still employed with the 9-5 (Rat Race), but hope to be self employed in IM one day soon.

The responses here are very encouraging. As a result, it gives me hope in knowing that this is possible.

i went full time in IM 5 months ago

i had a part time job as an SEO executive but sold some adsense sites start of december for a high 4 figure sum which gave me some breathing space

that money along with what i was making at the time i decided to take the plunge and go full time

5 months later and im doing fine and my business is growing every month and so is my income :-)

A related question for all you full time IM folks. How many hours a week do you work now compared to when you had a traditional job? Obviously, the time commitment getting started would be high for most but I would think part of the allure of going full time into a self employed IM business would be eventually having more time freedom for family, vacations, etc.. Maybe that's not a realistic expectation?

I quite my different-hours-job couple months back. I love the free time and not having a boss. It's still not a dream life financially and other issues, but I'm getting there. Should be all set up great by August.

Unfortunately I havent gotten to that level yet, like most warriors on this forum. I still got a quite a bit to go before even considering any level just trying to pay the bills.

Never had a day job, fresh from college straight to I.M. Been in the game just over 2 years, and in that time I have made WAY more than I could have in a job. Life is good.

Soon I hope..I've been doing IM for almost 10 years but typically on the side. Made some extra money but nothing to quite my regular career yet.
