Hi folks:

Just wanna check, do you have problem in explaining to friends and families what is your job being a full-time internet marketeer?

I told some of my friends, couple of months ago that I'm working from home! Then I explained a little about what I do and blah blah blah. His face is filled with :confused::confused: Seems like people at my surroundings dunno is internet marketing all about. To them, working from home means direct selling! I was . My mum was telling her friends that I'm doing network marketing.....

Do you face this kind of situation?

    Hi,

This is a tough thing to explain...

I have been doing it for years and still have trouble explaining
what I do and where the money actually comes from...

Whatever, I let them wonder, because... does it really matter?

I agree. After years of wasting time trying to explain, it's really a lost cause. I actually feel sorry for some people that can't grasp the fact that "marketing" takes place "online" just as it does "offline". When I tell them I'm involved in online marketing - why can't they put that together!?!? I mean, seriously, is it really that difficult of a concept to understand?

Point is, who cares. Trying to explain is typically a waste of your energy, but if you really need to explain to someone who is too dense to process it, just tell them you're in web design or something more common, that always seems to work for me.

True enough... HILARIOUS... I say web design some of the time
(and I do web design, although it is not on the top of my list)
seems to get a response that they are grasping something...

        Good one, lol!

All the time Friend, It actually happened to me recently. My suggestion for you and I both is to remain vague but optimistic. How's the business going? "GREAT, I'm doing really well! How's life for you?" so you redirect conversation. Work silently and diligently and always speak with optimism and enthusiasm and it won't matter about details. Lol, let me know if any of that made sense to you haha.

    HA HA...that's very interesting!

I started off this thing because I have been so busy and I would rather want to spend my time in exchange for dollar value, and you know what, this chap came to me and said,: Hey, are you trying to be anti-social nowadays?

I wouldn't really worry about it. Try to keep your explanation simple. I haven't had this problem yet. I just say I sell product online or I'm a writer. Just keep it basic or keep it to yourself.

    iw,

It is interesting that even younger folks can't seem to wrap their heads around the "internet marketing" idea. Forunately for all of us, that sense of wonder and mystery also can play nicely into better pay or quicker trust when we have a history of success in the field. So, you may not want that to go away anytime soon

I have a few pat answers, depending on who I'm talking to...

"I help other companies sell more stuff."

"I own a small publishing company."

"I do how-to stuff and sell it"

Give one of these a try, and if they work for you, they're all yours, my treat...

I have experienced it, too. And I also had tough time to explain. Basically, I just say I'm a freelance writer just to save time explaining them.

In my house as long as the bills are paid no one really cares. I spend so much time in front of my monitor that they just naturally put 2 and 2 together after a while and stopped asking.

My answer depends on whether I want to talk to them or not. If it's yes, I say, "I'm a writer." That will get almost anyone talking.

If it's no, I say something like, "One of my recent works is a report on the impact of mass and volume on perceived value."

Your answer controls the direction the conversation takes.

Sometimes I treat the question as fun. I recently said to a woman who asked that, "If I told you, I'd have to blog about it. With photos."

      Another time, "Digital gigolo."

And yet another, "I own weirder.com. Guess why."
