New type of WF comment spam?

Hey everyone...is it just me, or have other guys noticed an increase of "Mockingbird" spam???

You know, where someone will pull a line from another comment and paste it?

Is there some new software I missed that is supposed to emulate conversion by copy/paste?

Thought they were just the run of the mill cookie stuffers...if we are talking about the same ones that have been happening tonight.

There's lots of them every day. They're mostly cookie stuffers. There are invisible images in their post that you can see if you use IE or if you hit quote, you'll be able to see the code. Just report them.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Ok. I've only noticed them inside the WSO threads, so my original assumption was that they were attempting to hijack affiliate commissions inside there.

    Never noticed them before.

There are a few here per day. Not sure which site they are stuffing for though. I just report them and move on. Glad I don't go to the WSO section. I can only imagine what it is like in there.

        LOL Rob...

Maybe that shows that you spend too much time in the WSO sub-forum or not enough time in the main forum.

The others are correct. This has been going on regular since about the first of the year.

I followed the images through one time to see if I could identify the affiliate ID and report them. They are generally promoting: GoDaddy, HostGator and another web hosting company.

That is because in their own misguided little brains they believe that they have found a shortcut that will make their computer an ATM machine with no work. They don't realize that to keep the scam going, they have to post A LOT of spam over a long time, so they actually work quite hard. If they could visualize that work translated into real business building practices, they'd stop. Of course, they can't seem to do that, so we have to deal with them.

Ah, so were you able to get the affiliate ID, or are we stuck just deleting them out of here?

I've been noticing this for quite a while now, at least since the new year.

These have been happening for quite a while now... and not just in the WSO forum. Almost every time I bump one of my WSO's it is now hit with at least a couple of these image cloaking posts. It's becoming quite a nuisance. I've suggested to the mods that they introduce a ban on people using images until after 20 posts or something similar or even better still, remove the ability to post images from all people in a WSO thread except for the person who posted the WSO. I really don't see any need for images to be enabled for other users within a WSO thread. This would eliminate probably 99% of the problem and stop us all from wasting a whole heap of our time on reporting and deleting these posts.

    Sadly, the problem continues....
