When To Call An Affiliate Campaign Quits

Hey guys after selling my successful ecommerce site last summer I wanted to dip my feet into affiliate marketing, I had the training and created a few nice sites, two which have been hit by the new Google update about a month ago grrr!

Anyways one of my main sites which wasn't hit has page one rankings, not first position but around the 5-6 spot. I have sent over 490 visitors to the landing page which I was told converted at 8 percent. So basically out of all the affiliates that send traffic, 8 out of 100 people turn into customers. To me that means I should have at least 40 something sales with that amount of traffic. I only have one and it's getting very frustrating.

I guess my question is how long would you waste your time and money promoting an offer till you move on the the next one? I am doing what I needed to do, send people to the offer page but they are not taking action from there. Overall I probably sent about 700 or so visitors to the site in the last three months and only 20 bucks to show for it.

Jeff, nice work getting so many subscribers. I would try to send out a broadcast to your list, especially if you have something like a trial offer to see if the business is going to be a good fit. If your autoresponder is on Aweber, you can send out a broadcast asking if anyone has any questions, and work a promotion into the mix.

PattC I saw nothing in his post about building a list. JeffHylands your visitors do not trust you. If I were in your position I would make some tweaks on the page and then send paid targeted traffic until you have a 2% or better conversion. You find out if your site converts over a matter of days with paid traffic. If you can get it to where your making money after you pay for traffic then you can scale up your traffic.

If the site is already converting, keep testing.

You might just need to change your headline, try a different message or a different product.

You could be very close to high conversions and not even know it. Giving up now would be a bit silly.

Thanks for the responses guys, saw I had some typing errors had to fix that looked like I was from out of the country with my grammar haha. Yea I don't have a list for this product. It's a brand name just reviewing it and sending my visitors over to the converting page. Ill tweak some things like mentioned and see if that helps.

The thing that bugs me is if they didn't trust me I don't think they would click my links, they would just bounce off my website by hitting the back button, where I am starting to have doubts is ether the website tracking my sales or it's sales might be leaving people with questions. Could be so many things but Ill run some tests for another month or so and see if anything happens.

It's a pr3 site with a good domain name so worst case ill build a network with it, or sale it. Thanks for your input guys!

Trust comes in around the time that you are now asking someone to buy something. They don't have a need to trust you, just on information alone, because when a consumer is collecting information, they may often take it from many sources, or may often believe in what makes sense to them, based on their scenario.

So that is, from what I have seen, a bit different than the point where the customer has now clicked through, and is a real part of your sales funnel.

On the sales page itself, that is where you are TRULY asking someone to trust that you have something to offer for VALUE. When you start asking someone to spend money, of course, they will scrutinize it... BUT, in the free review site, your consumer did not have a reason to do such, because it was free, and you were not asking for something from them now.

Think of it this way.... how often do you read a news article, or an article on a certain topic, and become entertained, or absorbed into the information you are reading. Some of it may surprise you, some of it shocks you... but you aren't sitting there questioning every sentence you read, are you?

BUT, if you were to read a sales page....and KNOW it is a sales page.... suddenly your mindset changes, and now you are critically questioning whether or not the offer is really true.

If you want to test this theory out, read some local news stories; then head over to the WSO section of the warrior forum, and see which one is more scrutinized on your own personal level.

I am going to almost 100% guarantee, that you will be more critical with the sales page; than the free expression of information (articles, blogs, journals, new-stories etc...)

The simple difference, again; is when you begin asking for something in return from the person; versus the person just getting what they want, without having to give back.

On another note: I am curious about the transition from the review to the sales page; YES people are clicking, but is it for the right reasons? How smooth and how well does the consumer flow from the two; because that can also determine a little bit here.

I mean, is your pitch to get them there strong enough? Does the pitch say enough to let them know that they are about to enter into a site, where they will be buying something; on the level where the person agrees by the time they have clicked (forget them even reading the sales page... can you get them to agree to want to buy it before they even do?)

I am asking that, because I am wondering whether or not your traffic source is even targeted buyers; or just people who maybe want to buy it elsewhere. How are they finding your site? Another question... are they searching for that specific product; or for a solution that your product potentially offers? You know you can market it both ways, especially the second way, and find success?

I am also wondering if the sales page itself is weak. Maybe your buyers are targeted, maybe people want to buy; but the sales copy just isn't cutting it for them.
