2 month old website yo yo'ing?

Hi all,

I created a new website about 2 months ago and was ranking for a number of keywords on the 3rd and 4th pages in Google. From launch I waited 2 weeks and then stupidly added Google Adsense (too soon), which pushed rankings down to 100+ positions. I removed Google Adsense straight away but the pages keep bouncing up to 15th position or so and then back down to 150th position. It's been doing this for the last few weeks - something I've never experienced for any new site of mine. Strangely my homepage is stuck in the 200th position and hasn't changed for weeks either.

Is this the sandbox effect or simply what new sites tend to do now? I have added some inbound links using my keywords in the anchor text, but could I have been penalized for this activity?

Thanks,

J

Firstly I doubt its adsense, UNLESS... you filled your sites with ads. Why would google penalise you for using their system? They would only do this if the site was completely ads.

This is common for new sites and usually happens after you have done some heavy SEO, just depends how many links your created and how quickly.

For a new site I wouldnt do much more than 40 a day.

    Hope this helps

It's probably a Google dance from your recent link building activity.

Definitely Google's whole song and dance routine that happens to new sites. Especially since you did some SEO stuff recently. Just be patient, things will probably right themselves soon enough. I high doubt the issue was adsense unless, like another poster said, your site was all ads and no content, which doesn't sound like your case.

I wouldn't worry too much about the "dancing". I've found if you just keep adding good quality and work on backlinks it will even itself out over time.

Thanks guys. The reason I mentioned Google Adsense was because I read somewhere (maybe on here?) that if you add Google Adsense onto your site too soon, Google penalizes you. I only had a few ads, so I'll put them back on. Thanks again.

Be sure to seek out new ways to get free traffic to your website other than Google. There still is Bing and Yahoo that you can optimize for.

The yo-yo affect could be from ANYTHING due to the new algo weight changes that Google is applying. Take one of my sites for example..pretty steady keyword ranking site, no backlinking or seo done in the last 5 months probably. Check out how this bad boy is ranking lol

This site has felt the pain. I get roughly 10k uniques a day with this site as well.
