Do even really want to be rich? I mean really

I mean think about it, say you were making millions a year...obviously more money, more problems, not to mention most the people you know will start treating you different. Either in spite, or start kissing up to you, either way it won't be like it was before. I've googled many previous Lotto winners and the general consensus was and a lot of them actually wished they never won the lotto...money does weird things to people, sometimes horrible things(someone trying to kill you, or everyone suing you for a piece etc...) So my question is do you really want to be rich?

In terms of myself, I think money is disgusting, I'll be honest, I don't like the way it smells, I don't like the way it is... But at the same time I am a fan of making it, because of what it allows me to do for my family, for others and for myself. So in my case I absolutely want to be rich(monetarily wise) as i'm already rich in other areas in my life, the things that really, truly matter (which i'm very grateful for, and feel very blessed for).
#rich

For the freedom and lifestyle. Materialistic things are just a bonus to be honest.

That's something that poor people say... Don't believe it! Rich people love their materialistic things. Why do you think there is so much bitching and crying when governments want to raise taxes on them?

Poor people would love materialistic things too, if they could afford them.
Really, what would be the point of having all of that freedom if there was nothing to do with it?

He mentioned some of the lotto winners were receiving death threats and lawsuits from greedy people trying to get their money.

It's not exactly guaranteed the scenario will be "if I win the lottery, I'll be threatened by greedy people wanting my money." But if I came into a lot of money, it probably won't be a good idea to advertise it either.

There are always crazy people in the world, whether you have money or not. Sure, it might make you more of a target. But large amounts of money allow you to pay for things like professional security "consultants" to deal with those troublemakers.

But yeah, most people don't want to go around advertising it to the world, that is just silly.

You know who says that money creates more problems? Poor people.
The rest of us just throw money at most of the problems and they go away.

You really don't want people to treat you differently? If I could do it all over again, I would not have made any friends. Friends are needy and clingy and want too much of your time. I would rather pay people to be my companions for a day. When I stop paying them, they will go away and leave me alone. So much better!

A lot of lotto winners and those who get lucky in gambling don't know how to handle their money. The most important skill in this world is the ability to manage money properly. (And the lack of education and understanding of this subject is the #1 reason why most people are miserable!) Because a large amount of money magnifies any character traits you have, bad habits and problems are also multiplied to the extreme. When this happens suddenly, rather than over time, people don't learn at each difficult step along the way.

The "smell" of money? That is just weird. And most wealthy people don't walk around with a lot of cash anyway... this is 2012 and most everything is electronic.

Obviously, the whole point is not really to have money... It is to live a good life, and provide for you family. But most people are making 99% of their decisions based on how much money they don't have. Never listen to anyone who tells you that it is hard to be rich... They are either trying to sell you something, or they don't know what it is like and they are trying to make themselves feel better.

Being wealthy is freaking AWESOME. I recommend it to everyone.

If bartering worked, there would be no need for money. The simple fact is that cheating and corruption was more rampant when bartering ruled the world. People were constantly changing and gouging the worth of their products and services, manipulating everything. And without a currency to represent a more steady absolute value, the people with power were able to maintain their advantage with an iron grip.

Of course, today most of the world's currencies flux so much that the problem has once again reared it's ugly head, but it is still better and more fair than bartering.

On a more serious note, I would be interested in that mule. I don't have a black Stallion but I do know a black guy that looks like Stallone, and I can get you his autograph.

Yes, exactly this... Money is a tool like a wrench or a hammer or a gun.
The difference is that money is the most flexible of all tools, and is effective in more situations than any other.

That's another great thing about money, it can give you both simultaneously.

Ideally, yes, I would like to get rich. But honestly I wouldn't want to hit big money until my mid 40s at the earliest. I would imagine that scoring big money at my age (23) would make the rest of my life seem too easy/uninteresting. That and I would prefer to accumulate money gradually, to throw manipulative relatives and fake slip and fall scammers off the scent :p

You may be relieved to know, then, that most people who hit big money never do until they are past 40.

That being said, being young with money is not boring! In fact most young rich people get into a ton of mis-adventures! :p

Very true, but people have to take baby steps when they are dreaming sometimes.

      Here is an example:

Celine Dion was paid something like $400 Million over the course of 5 years when she was singing in Vegas. She is "rich." They guy who paid her, he is "wealthy".

I wouldn't regard "Wealth" as the next state from being "Rich". A person becomes wealthy before they are rich.

Wealth suggest that a person has enough money to support themselves without having to earn any more over X amount of time (i.e their remaining lifetime) based upon approximate expenses, as opposed to being "rich" which suggests that they have an abundance which could stretch well beyond that timescale.

At least that's how I've understood those terms despite the dictionary encompassing "wealth" into the "rich" definition.

Addressing the other comments in topic, what money does to a person varies hugely. There's a million and one key factors which will have a knock on effect on a persons ability to manage money which in turn dictates whether or not money changes their life for the bad or the better. Stopping at "bad money management" as the sole problem would be the equivalent of claiming that a heroin addict is an addict because "they can't quit", which although true is only part of a much bigger picture which explains why.

This is not about getting rich. It's about FREEDOM NOT MONEY! Imagine a life where you're completey free, carefree and independent. That what this Internet lifestyle can give you...it's awesome!
Having lots of money will not make you any happier than you are now. If you are unhappy now, you will also be unhappy if a Ferrari stands in front of your door...it's true.
If you think all you need to be happy is money, than that's bad news for you.
On the other hand, becoming free and working for anywhere in the world is what it's all about.

I wish more people were aware of this.

I want to be rich, yes. I want to destroy people's live with anger that have laughed at my ideas. I want to **** on people who said I couldn't do it. I've already made 6 figs under the age of 18, so they're starting to calm down. I'm taking my time to run all of this just to get revenge. But yes, I want to be rich, and I will be rich. And yes money does do horrible things to you. I have no problem firing people that work for me who make one mistake. I used to have a mind set of joy and passion, now all I feel superior and that I'm better than others my age around me. All I want is more money and revenge. Money will change you no matter what.

I see what you're saying, but you might be better off asking your friends this question in your fb status. Pretty sure anyone on the WF wants to make as much money as possible and not because most of them are greedy.

If you're afraid to make a bunch of money because someone might kill you, then I don't know what to say to that. I highly doubt someone is going to kill you for selling some ebooks.

Jon I really was just trying to get a peak into other marketers mind on the idea of being rich vs just making enough, and how they see money as a whole. The examples of people being killed for it(by family members no doubt :\ ), or sued by everyone were just to show some of the worse things that could and have happened unfortunately, to those who've became rich overnight. But anyway I appreciate your guys quality answers, and the money management comment I think was spot on, most lotto winners seem to just blow through their winnings within a few years due to poor money management and drugs. That's the typical MO. I guess the situation would be different with most marketers though, as they would of had to earn the money first so it'd hold more value.

I think that it's the LIFESTYLE people are interested in having more than the money itself. Money, by itself, has no intrinsic value. You can't eat it, you can't drink it and it won't keep you warm on a cold winter's night (unless you burn it).

What money does is it allows you to trade it for the things you REALLY want.

There is a saying that once you get x amount of millions then the rest is irrelevant. In the millionaire next door it says once you earn $100,000 a year salary then more than that is not really neccessary for wealth building purposes. Sounds good in theory and probably for most that works as an axiom.

Sounds to me that you want to feel secure and your security is based off of a couple thousand a month. Good luck to you.

I've been poor, I mean don't know where I'm going to sleep, not sure I'm going to eat poor. Let me tell you not having to worry about money is the best thing in the world. They say money can't buy happiness, maybe not but it can stop a lot of the stress and buy the things that can make you happy. You don't have to live like a rich person or even let anyone know you are, but it's very nice knowing your going to be fine in just about any situation.

This about sums it up for the lottery example

If more money equals more problems
And More problems equals more money

Im going with cause a lot of problems

It's all about your relationship to money.

If you allow money to control your life, you will always have a tough time to be happy.

Money is nothing more than a meaning; for someone, money means more than for someone different.

If you make more money, you can do both invest and spent more.

I think if a person says money is not important to him or her, then I think this person lies in other areas of life as well.

more money more problems is just a P.Diddy lyric, you will have more expensive problems. But just think in your daily life how many problems are caused by lack of money.

How many of your problems can easily be solved with money. I know it can't fix everything but it beats living in fear of not having money if your car breaks down or something.

I love solving problems. I love challenges.

Making money is beautiful. The fact that people can vote by giving me dollars based on what we give, value, etc, is a good thing. And when they come again with a vote, it shows that we are doing something well.

It's like sex you both get something out of it.

If you don't like money you likely wouldn't like bartering. Imagine you have to give something of value to get something of value, so if it isn't working for you with money, then it wouldn't work with other ways!

It sounds like you have a bad association to money. Listen there is nothing wrong with money you just have a really bad association to money. Your perception amount money is very negative. If this is the case with money it's the same way with other areas of life. You need to change your perspective . You don't have to be negative, be positive

Prehaps it is good to quiet down your mind to see what you think about yourself as a whole. If you think well of yourself, you will see the good in what money can do to enhance your life. Money can't buy you real relationship , loev or kindness but it gives you the power to help those in need, help those in pain and help the extremely sick and poor.

It depends on which side of the coin you want to stand. If you think money is the root to all evil, then it will always be!

    Just my two cents!

I don't care if I'm rich or not, but I would like to own a wonderful house on the lake with some land and an RV and a boat and some expensive toys. I would also like to have enough money to easily pay for the taxes and upkeep of all of these toys.

And honestly, I love money and all things money and I do believe that as long as you find money "disgusting" you will never, ever be rich monetarily. It's a law of reality or something.

    Hi cashtree,

You have got a very interesting point-of-view on money.

    1) Money is awesome. It isn't evil.

    2) I respect the fact that you are "rich in other area's of your life". Do you think money would take that away from you?

    3) Watch this video right now: Dr. Dain Heer, DC | Access Consciousness

You owe it to yourself. The man is awesome; and has helped me.
Allow yourself to open up your views on money. Stop resisting.

Just because there may have been bad experiences for you on money, or you have seen other people abuse their 'power' with a lot of money, or all the things that were told to you about money when you were growing up - doesn't mean it's true, and it doesn't mean you would turn out the same if you had a lot of it.

I sincerely wish you the best on your path to understanding that money can actually HELP us move FORWARD to do beautifully-awesome things for ourselves and others in life. All the best!

    Hey Cashtree,

Your post made me start investigating a little. I know I was being a bit cheeky with my response and apologize if I came off as a douche since you seem to have more of a point than I originally thought. This little statement kind of sums up what I found:

People who start earning(not winning the lottery) a lot of money very quickly AREN'T MENTALLY PREPARED for it. And what happens is they sabotage - start partying too much, doing drugs, thinking they're having a good time. Thinking "I'm just doing this now because I'm celebrating my new lifestyle". Then it starts dragging out into months of constant self abuse and it starts to unravel without them realizing it because they're in a haze of alcohol and cocaine. Marriages fall apart, they may gamble it away - and after a while they start to lose control of everything, their businesses suffer and they wind up worse off than they were before.

I don't even think you NEED to make a bunch of money for this to happen, it's just that a whole bunch of money all at once facilitates it so much more.

Luckily, most of our businesses will grow more gradually --and that's a good thing, because we won't have that "Wahoo!" lottery winner effect and go flying off the deep end.

I don't think being targeting by other people who want to harm us is what we even need to worry about. It's ourselves.

Not to digress, but I've been a professional musician since I was 16 years old, working as a sideman in different bands. I picked up lots of bad habits very early on. Being a musician can be a real lowdown grind even if you're a "name" player. I saw some pretty unbelievable things along the way. When performers would start to get a bit of success they would start to spiral out of control like you can't imagine causing themselves tons of pain.

I don't even think you need to make lottery money for this to happen. What you said in your post is FAR MORE VALUABLE than I originally thought. We all should keep this in mind --even though most Warriors here are probably a lot more level headed and stable than I am and wouldn't be as likely to go nuts with the crazy party lifestyle !!

Thanks for sharing Cashtree --you definitely made me think about things.

Isn't that a oxymoron? You just told us what is holding you back in your sub conscious from making a ton of money. Its up to you to change your sub conscious thought so you do not think of money like this. Your mind will not allow you to make a ton of money because of how you think of it.

Money is not disgusting, people are. If you give money to a "disgusting" fellow, he will become worse and vice versa.

Since I am a decent person (and I am being polite ), I definitely want to make a lot of it. Only good things can come out of it

I want nothing to do with my parents money. My goal is to make it on my own. I know I will inherit their money when they pass, but I want to know that if I ever lost the money or something else were to happen, I could make it on my own.

I think you have to work on your mindset. If you think of money as such a negative thing then it becomes almost impossible to attract into your life. Changing your mindset is the first step to wealth.

So many people have a fear of money on a sub-conscious level and don't even realize it. It will hold them back because they fear how money will change their life in a negative way so they never make it.

Thanks for all great responses, I love the insight. I hope you all make a lot of money and are able to manage it properly when you do. I read that one of the lotto winners who won 300 million something in the past, they still clip coupons...and give to charities each year. That kind of stuff is awesome to me, that they *get it*, and i'm happy they won.

Here's where your entire post starts going wrong.

More money does NOT equal to more problems. Quite the contrary: More money equals to more means to solve problems.

I've been in both ends of the spectrum, both literally broke and wealthy, and I can assure you that it's MUCH easier to deal with problems when you've got money backing you up.

Since when having money is a bad thing? have we gone crazy or what? Geeez...

Money with a fool is money soon gone.

Money is always a problem, with little money you have problems, with too much money you will also have problems.. people who said they will have NO problems after making x amount of money have no idea what they are talking about.

Personally, I would rather have the problems of having too much money!

You don't hate money. You hate only currency notes - which rich people don't use much, anyway.

Lotto winners problem is understandable. When somebody is given more money than what he would probably save the whole life, it is only natural that they start having problems. You need recurring income to have better life, nothing feels as good as getting lot of money in your bank account every month.

The lotto winner didn't earn/work for the money, so didn't "build him/herself" up to owned it, hence it will flow away quickly - and attract all the troubles. He/she did not learn how to handle these.

A millionaire earned the money working on himself/herself and hence will be able to keep it/make more.

That's why if a millionaire looses his/her millions, he/she will be able to make it back.
