Is Internet Marketing Possible Today Even without Owning a Website?

The days have begun to change quite gradually. Previously a few if not many companies allowed us to make money through their affiliate programs even if we didn't possess a website. Now things are getting a little bit stricter. They have tightened up things at least to the effect that website possession is becoming a must these days. What do you think about it? Do you think that we can still make money without a website? Are yahoo search marketing and msn still allowing us to display ads that have direct links to affiliate websites?

  • Can you make money without a website? Yes, but why would you?

This is like asking "can you become the best football/soccer player without using your left foot?"
  • It is easy and cheaper to get a website nowadays, if you can't do it yourself, just outsourced it, there is no excuse to not get yourself a website, you can always opt for blog if you think a website is too hard for you to maintain.
  • I do agree with trytolearnmore above. Get yourself your own domain and hosting which are very affordable. I had my first domain and hosting for free though. Thanks to a fellow warrior!
  • Refusing to get a website to me shows a lack of commitment. It's incredibly cheap.
  • There are certainly some techniques through which you can earn affiliate commissions, that may help you for short term. For long term goals, you should work on having your own website, may be just use some free blog networks. There are tons of blog network online like Blogger, WordPress, Livejournal...so on.
  • I agree it is pretty easy to have your own website nowadays. There is no excuse not to have one. Sure, it might be true that you could still make money without a website, but having a website will make the process of earning a fortune online potentially easier, so, why not?

    • You can start without website like make gigs at fiverr or affiliate with video marketing etc, but next you need website for your branding
  • Yes it is very possible to start making money without a site. You can sell yourself and your services or start selling things on Fiverr and other gig related sites.
The best part about having a site is picking up the leads and generating a list. You can reach a much wider range of customers this way

    • Yes, it is certainly true that we can generate a list. I didn't think about that! A wide range of customers is indeed crucial at the end of the day for any Internet marketer.
  • You can use solo ads to generate a list.. but even then you'll at least need a site to put your squeeze pages on.

But, really, for as simple as it is to put a WP site, I can't think of a good reason NOT to have at least one site. Why handcuff yourself for the sake of a few bucks? Invest in your business.
  • If you are serious at all about making money online, you really must have your own domain and website. The first domain you should get is your name, if available. Then, if nothing else just use it for branding purposes or to hold some capture or splash pages.
  • If the issue is money, there are many alternatives to registering a domain name and buying hosting. For example, sometimes you can use "parasite" hosting and include your affiliate links in your content.

That's not true of all free hosting options, of course. However, you can include your affiliate links in your Squidoo lenses, and -- last time I checked -- they're okay at Blogger sites, as well.

You can post affiliate links at some social media sites, in your stream/feed/conversation, too. Each site has its own rules, of course, and those rules may change if the sites start looking spammy.

So, I don't think it's an "all or nothing" situation if you'd like to earn money as an affiliate, but want to avoid paying for domain name registration and hosting.

However, if you don't have time to maintain a lens or a very basic site on Blogger, etc., I think you'll see fewer and fewer opportunities for affiliate income.
  • Yes, maintenance of lens would go a long way in taking my product to potential visitors. A lens is almost an individual website that can have our own content. It is indeed true that content management becomes quite easy on a lens.
