I don't think cloaking affiliate urls will be converting better, this is usually done for the user to not see which he is being redirected and also to protect your identity, though it could convert better.

Don't make much difference with sales, but good for on page seo.

It depends what sort of affiliate url and how it's cloaked.

Hoplinks convert far better when cloaked with a redirected .info domain-name. (When you look at what an uncloaked hoplink looks like, that isn't a surprise, is it?).

I think almost anything cloaked with bit.ly probably converts worse, though, because many people are (understandably) even more reluctant to click on that than they are on something uncloaked.

But in any case, as so many here have discovered to their cost, it makes very little sense to let your business be dependent on the continuity, availability and reliability of an entirely unnecessary third-party service.

I second this. I usually don't bother with links cloaked like this.

For myself, I usually redirect links through my own website when I can... such as this: Wholesale Suppliers for eBay | SaleHoo

If you check the bottom lefthand corner while you mouse over it'll be a clean looking link, and I can still track the stats.

      Cheers,

If you're talking about cloaking the LINK on your site by using something like Prettylinks (I use easy redirect script), then I've found more people will click on the link; however, if you mean cloaking the URL at the destination site by using some sort of iFrame, then I'd be careful because sites like Amazon will shut you down for violating their terms of service.

I'd also suggest you don't use a redirect like bit.ly (as in your signature) because people (such as myself) won't ever click on them for fear of some malicious trick.

    +1 Alexa ..

and seriously, bitly? You may invite the entire marketing crowd to take a peak at your stats (and if you are sitting on a goldmine, you really really don't want to do that).

All a person's gotta do is add a + to your link, and your stats are wide open..

Like the link in your signature: bitly statistics for http://senuke.com/amember/go.php?r=114049&i=l2
