Inserting links into syndicated articles?

I just want to know if this would be allowed or not. When publishing from EZA it says u r not allowed to make any changes - does anyone know if this counts as changes or not?

Thanks

Yes, it does. You'll eventually have authors serving DMCA take-down notices on your host, if you do that. (And unless you have bulletproof hosting in Mongolia, or something, your host will comply with them, too).

But in any case, how would you feel about that yourself, Andy, if you were the article's author?

Well as long as they kept the resource box in tact I wouldnt mind.

What about inserting an ad block into it? Is that not allowed either?

That's really "generous to a fault", Andy. Most authors will mind very much indeed if you take their articles and breach EZA's TOS (subject to which copyright is granted), and I strongly suggest that you don't try it.

This subject's discussed on EZA's blog - it's not as if there's any "gray area" about it.

Not sure about this one, sorry. I can't remember the "layout" rules.

I suspect it's the kind of issue over which EZA themselves would become interested, at least regarding their "maximum syndication per site" rules, though: as far as I'm aware, the only reason for those (very rarely enforced) rules is to prevent or at least strictly limit people from using EZA's content for such purposes.

Well, inserting an ad block is fine because generally, and ad block is clearly not part of the article. Inserting a link into the middle of somebody else's article, however, is falsely manipulating their content to your gain and their loss.

If you really want to add your link to an article, why not write and insert your own editorial either before or after the article? That's well within the confines of acceptable, and you could insert your link freely there.

    My view?

    Inserting links - no.

    OBVIOUS ad blocks - sure.

My objection to publishers inserting their links into my articles has little to do with EZA's TOS. It has to do with the implied endorsement including those links within the article text garners. Even if I use a pen name, bad links with that pen name attached to them can damage the pen name.

On the other hand, I view obvious ad blocks along the same lines as ads in print magazines and newspapers. They might be annoying or distracting, but they are clearly NOT a part of the editorial content.
