Just email support and ask them how to cancel. Just stopping payment is not the best way to do that.

no, don't rely on your host to keep your files for you. Make a backup of everything and keep it offsite...suggest even a free Dropbox account.

How much are you paying for hosting? My suggestion is to find cheap hosting and have at least a one page site up that has a paragraph or two about what future content might be and then an adsense or affiliate link up. this will keep the domain from being completely dead and possibly having crap ads on it from your registrar or your host.

If it is a wordpress blog, or any other type of dynamic site that retrieves the content form a database, back the database up.

I've had a few people come to me about in tears that had wordpress blog. They were thinking that backing up the files on their site was all they had to do to restore it later. Not realizing that they needed the database to.

So just make sure you have everything first.

Don is right about backing everything up. But of course if you
don't want to mess with backing up stuff, just use WP Twin,

In running a hosting business we come across this question often. I would do as others suggested and contact support and ask them to cancel your account. They'll probably ask if you want to do it immediately or at the end of your pay period.

Then, if you're paying via PayPal automatically, be sure to cancel your subscription to them. Remember, that is up to you and not your hosting company to cancel that.
