Promoting your own products

I'm just wondering what your experiences are of launching your own affiliate program to promote your own product, and what is the best, or most practical, method of recruiting affiliates? I see tons of threads about promoting affiliated products, but not so much of people with products, looking to find affiliates to promote them. Is it necessary to go with the big networks or can it be done on little (or no!) budget? Would be interested to hear of any words of wisdom so that i can avoid any pitfalls that may be heading my way! Sometimes I feel like I am trying to do this whole IM thing in reverse...

Getting your affiliates is only easy when you have a product which is a proven seller. No one will invest their time, money or effort on something which won't convert. And you will have to provide solid sales proof, ways to promote your product and in some cases, you might even have to go out of your way and give out 100% commissions just to get the affiliate interested.

Have something that makes it easier for the affiliate.

Have ready made articles, videos, audios, webinars etc for them. This will make it a whole lot easier on them when they are promoting for you.

100% commisions on the front end works pretty well.

When you are launching your first product you won't have many affiliates. Over time, as
people register to promote your product, you make a list of affiliates and on your next
launch mail them and inform them about your new product that they can promote.

Put your product on Clickbank and Paydotcom. You'll get affiliates immediately promoting your stuff.

Then create an "affiliate sign-up page" and submit them to the affiliate directories. Also, make sure a link that points to your affiliate sign-up page is posted near the end of your sales letter... near your disclaimer.
