I have a new list of 381 subscribers for one particular niche on aweber.

There's a approximately 130 people who still haven't clicked on the confirmation link.

These people are mostly gmail and yahoo users.

Is anyone experiencing the same thing? Does the confirmation email need to be edited in a way to prevent it being treated as spam?

Thanks in advance.

Daniel

If a person switches to single optin is there any way to send the unconfirmed subscribers message #1 as if they had signed up in single optin mode or will these people just stay dormant until the confirm link is clicked?

Are there any other ways to harvest the dead ducks?

You can't do anything about those people now. All you can do is create a new list and make it single optin so this doesn't happen in the future. Be aware that you can't change a double optin list back to single optin. Once a list has subscribers on it, it can't be changed. Thus why you would need to create a new list for that purpose.

In regards to the unconfirmed, I have ALWAYS noticed with Aweber that a large percentage of the people who do not confirm have Yahoo email addresses. It has always been a problem with Aweber and not much you can do about it.

The weirdest part of the whole thing is that there are people out there who still use Yahoo for their email. I thought they were now called Yah-WHO??!!

I know this was an issue some months ago, but I've experimented and this does appear to be possible. Single optin can be activated on a double optin list. I've ran a test to confirm.

Message #1 was delivered first with no confirmation email straight to a Yahoo! email accounts Inbox.

            I'll eat my words.

            It's back to confirmation.

A new list with confirmation set to "off" is still sending out confirmations too.

This is ridiculous. I know aweber support is known to be good so I've dropped them a message.

I find that in my yahoo account that most of the confirmations go to spam folder unfortunately. I'm not sure about gmail. The other depressing statistic to look at is about the open rates!

happen to see much in terms of bounce codes?

i think 2 things - 1, reputation/inconsistent volume issue - engagement and priority inbox issues with yahoo and gmail specifically
2, high hard bounce rate at yahoo / gmail - either issue with acquisition point..heck I've seen registration pages hit hard by folks injecting a ton of bad email addys at one particular isp

AFAIK there is no way to do that. I believe they are dead ducks until they confirm.

Are you using one of the custom aweber pages so that the person know's they have to double opt-in? If you're targeting a non IM niche people may not know they need to confirm their email?

It could also be that people type their email address in wrong, so the confirmation will never arrive? The best way to get confirmed leads is to sell a product, if you've bought something you always enter the correct email.

Instructions are present in the aweber screen which follows the form submission. This changes according to double / single optin settings. In the case of single, the user is informed to check their email for a confirmation email.

I have no doubt it's spam related. If people were buying, they would only make efforts to complain - and rightly so.

I was going to ask just that.... does it have sound (the directions), which basically says out loud, what the instruction text states?

I thought Aweber only allows double opt-in?

When I create a new list, it says "this feature must be enabled" (for double opt-in) or something like that..

    EDIT:

I just checked, I was just confused. This is what it says:

All subscribe methods require Confirmed Opt-In to ensure only recipients who have specifically requested to be on the list are subscribed. This means you have proof someone opted-in, fewer unsubscribe requests and far fewer spam complaints.
For some reason, I thought this meant you couldn't change it to single opt-in, & all your lists must be double..

BUT I was wrong, all you have to do to change it is click the green button. LOL I wish I'd known that sooner.

ALSO - Their Live Support is online, scroll to the bottom of https://www.aweber.com/users/help

Hey Daniel - I think you may be confusing yourself a little

    To re-iterate (Aweber):

    Double Opt-in
    1) If a list has been set to double opt-in and has subscribers on - you can not change it to single optin
    2) If you add a subscriber manually they WILL be sent the confirmation message
    3) If anyone who has been sent the confirnmation message does NOT confirm, they sit uselessly (you can't email them) on your list for a period of 1 month, then they are automatically deleted. This is to give them the chance to opt-in but you can not email then to ASK them to opt in as this is considered spam.

    Single Opt-in
1)The list must be set to single opt-in when it is initially set up.
    2) It will not send out a confirmation message
    3) Single opt-in is considered (by Aweber) to be risky as you leave yourself open to spam accusations and you can get a load of junk on your list because it is not confirmed.
    4) Having said that, bounced emails will be filterd out by Aweber on the next sending

TIP: I have come to the conclusion that it is not worth capturing name + email. I only capture email address.
    1) Less resistance
    2) No junky salutations "Good Mornining oxoxoxox (and worse - you would be surprised what people put in the "name" field)

    Hope this helps

Thanks but this is exactly how I understand it and it isn't working.

I've changed the green "on" button to "off" when I've set up a new list and it's still sending out confirmation emails.

I had this problem months ago with aweber and it's why I decided to stop using them. The "On" / "Off" button appears to do absolutely nothing.

I'm all for accepting I can't change the setting on an establsihed list, but I should, according to their rules, be able to change it on a fresh list during setup, but the button although showing "off" is doing absolutely nothing. I'm testing by typing in an email directly into the form on my website.

Yes, it's the first time it's done that after the change to "off".

The voice described that the user must click the confirmation link.

I'm baffled now. I'll wait until customer support chime in. My solos are on hold until then.
