2. Create a blog about your business. Post unique and compelling content to your blog so visitors will come back for more. Some people will even recommend your blog to others, bringing in even more traffic. Social bookmark and social media can help with getting it out there.

3. Link exchange. Find websites related to yours and request to exchange links. This also works well from a search engine optimization perspective. It's a win-win situation.

There's lots of great suggestions on this thread. From personal experience I'd say article marketing and blog commenting on relevant blogs are the two best free methods for getting subscribers on your list.

If you write a good article, people will be compelled to read more and click the link in your resource box. If you make a good comment, people will also be compelled to find out more about you and sign up for your list. When I say good comment, I don't mean; "Thanks for the great post." It needs to be something that adds to the article. For example, if it's an article on list building, add something that the author has missed in the article e.g. "I've also found that using XYZ method works really well. When I implemented it I got these results compared to these older results etc".

There's no such thing as "free", especially if you value your time. So I can only offer you methods that take no cash investment:

1) Go search for blogs related to your niche and post smart, interesting, or relevant comments that will get approved by the blog owners, Insert your URL in there.

2) Join forums and put your URL in your signature profile. And post relevant comments to the topics so your links won't be removed.

3) You can try free tools like SEO Sozial monkey to submit 25 daily links

4) Propose to bloggers that you will do guest-posts for their niche. (If you want you can outsource the writing, but that takes $$). In the article include a signature link back to your site.

5) Write good quality, informative, and useful articles related to your website and niche, and put your URL in the signature, and submit them to ezine articles, and other article sites.

6) The best way is to offer something so valuable that people will share it on facebook, twitter, etc etc.

7) Sign up for SocialAdder and do their free program to generate bookmarks from other users to your site.


Anyways,this is a pretty good place to start. If you have money, you can save yourself A LOT of time and effort, of course.

Wear a tshirt every day with your website printed on it.

Tell as many people to visit it as you can.

Threaten people - tell them if they don't visit your site, you'll come back and break their thumbs.

All above resources are great, Also try to make some Twitter followers for couple of Twitter accounts.. It will bring you some instant traffic to your pages. So as the FB pages.

The role of free classifieds in driving unique traffic to websites cannot be underestimated. Since they are divided into categories all you have to do is place your ad in the right category for better visibility.

Everything is ok but do you know why some websites stay ahead check out their backlinks and internal links.

Only FREE methods.. hmm, forum posting (which you're currently doing already).. Maybe you might want to consider creating a blog as well (personal), in future you can promote anything you want via that blog.

Also classified ads, youtube videos, social media sites like digg, facebook, google+, stumble and now pinterest.

Many ways, you just have to put in effort to drive these traffic to your website..

I think stumble is the best way to get thousands of daily visitors for free. Last year I was working for a news site. Once I promoted their news at stumble for trial and I was wonder because I got around 18,000 hits through stumble in a single day.

Stumble sucks (you get cheap traffic but it is not worth anything), it is interesting, why warriors asks all the time the same questions here and get over and over the same answers.

Use the search button and read the results you get, for your topic, you will bet like thousands of it...

Article marketing is my favorite way for traffic.

I wish people would read the entire thread, instead of just the OP. That way we wouldn't have lots of people posting the same thing, over and over again....like press releases, which came up 2 days ago.

I agree with a lot of the other warriors. The most effective free ways to bring traffic are forums related to your sites topic, and social media.
Facebook marketing can be very powerful if done correctly and not spamming.
Forums that are related to your niche can be a long lasting form of fee traffic.

Make as much free content as possible and link it to your squeeze page.

You can also convert your articles into pdf and powerpoint and upload them to document sharing sites like Scribd, Doc Stoc, Slide Share and AuthorStream.

I like using forum signatures. Not only is it a free way to get traffic but it's a lot less boring then other methods. I'd rather browse a forum and read about stuff then submit my link to a whole bunch of directories.

- Tweet swaps - If you already have a twitter account, that's great. Contact people who are in the same niche to do the swap promotion.

When discussing, tell him a better plan is to promote each other at least twice a day to make sure you don't miss anyone who likes, lets say tweeting at midnight.

There are a lot of free ways. Normally free ways need a lot more work and manual. But if you do it right and consistently, you are still able to get a good amount of traffic. A few things that I am doing and known of to drive traffic
1. Organic google search - SEO (only for lower competition keyword that you can do for free if you want to rank fast)
2. Article (not to drive traffic in specific, but to get to publisher)
3. Forum (provide good enough value, it definitely brings you traffic)
4. Video marketing (create interesting one to get it viral)
5. Publish in web 2.0
6. Blogging (create good content)
7. Share to facebook/ twitter for good stuffs (sharing your blog)

Here is a simple plan on creating content once and utilizing multiple high traffic sites

1. Create a Quality Article about your product and post it on your site
2. Create PDF and PPT versions of this article and upload to top pdf/ppt sites eg slideshare,myplick,authorstream
3. Create a Video using the article content and upload to top video sites eg youtube,metacafe,vimeo,dailymotion

just doing this will get you traffic and a few backlinks

Pinterest is something which is fast catching up on the front of bringing traffic to your website. Would be a good idea to check it out

About forum marketing is depends what niche you're talking about.

I have a dating blog and it is terribly hard to find any forum that allows me to have a link signature.

Best way I believe is to do your homework. Figure out what is unique about your offer and use that info and spend a good bit of time doing keyword research. In my opinion there is nothing more valuable than great keyword research.
Optimize your page for for your keyword research results.
If you want to rank in google however the new rules of the game seem to be that your "squeeze page" needs to be more than a squeeze page. You need to have plenty of good content.
