Where to go next? In a head spin HELP!

Hi

I posted a thread last week to view my website at quirkiegifts .co.uk with any feedback as ive just launched my new website. Its been up and running for a couple of weeks and im very new to WF. The feedback i received was helpful and im working on making the changes.

Going forward.
Now that i have my products and my website is live, i now need to bring in traffic resulting in conversions...HELP!! My heads in a spin and im just not sure which way to go..

I know PPC is quick and simple but id like long term success and to try and save some pennies. To increase brand awareness ive used PPC with a £2 daily budget over the last week so far.
SEO can take a while but i can start working on it.
Guest blogging good?
Im on twitter.
I dont like facebook that much so id like way to encourage sales through twitter?
Im also on Pinterest if this works?

If you can guide me so i dont get lost with 'shiny new free ideas' or 'buy this and your life will be great', i would appreciate that

I dont plan to make money super fast but i do plan to keep my shop alive in these hard times and in it for the long run

thank you

To get sales you need to make your website so people trust it. No offense, but in the websites current state i wouldnt buy from it. Can you change its design?

Is the word 'quirkie' used in association with gifts much? (I could check it, but I'm sure you have).

If the answer is no, then you might think about combining a different and more useful word with 'gifts' so that you've got at least a shot at getting some worthwhile organic traffic. (If I'm wrong, and 'quirkie' is a useful search word, then forgive me).
Personally, with a site in the 'gift' biz, I'd be looking at establishing a range of search terms incorporating at least 3 words. Gifts on its own is near impossible to rank for. Gifts+X and X+Gifts will all be competitive. So you'll need some cleverly selected 3-word combinations to get your site noticed by targeted visitors. Use your Google account to do some real keyword research (Keywords suggestion tool).

You need to get many more descriptive texts on your pages, you have plenty of opportunity to do that but as it stands your site is predominantly image driven. Use the results from your keyword research to start adding pertinent descriptions on your home page and key product pages. Are all your product descriptions unique or are they as supplied by the manufacturer? Make sure they're unique by rewriting them all in your own words and be sure to incorporate one or two occurrences of your primary site keywords on your product pages, with links back to the home pages.

I see a Meta Title and Keywords but not a Description Tag, so that coupled with the lack of descriptive text and possibly a vague choice of optimal search terms tells me that no one has really looked at the site from the perspective of getting organic search traffic. So that's a big step to take which will move you forward.

I'd be reluctant to do much else until you have that fixed up.

Then, you have all of the usual options and techniques available to you, which you'll find when you look around this place: link building, directory submissions, article marketing etc.
There are probably dozens of gift related directories in the UK, blogs, forums etc. You need to get active in promoting your site wherever you can.
Certainly it would be worthwhile to add a blog to your own site, if nothing else to act as a repository for some content which wouldn't fit neatly on your product page.

As far as appearance, I think it looks OK, quite good in fact, I'd just spend $25 and change the header by adding a custom business Logo (to give you some branding, some identity) and perhaps a clear statement of what your site offers the visitor.

    You have the products sorted.
You have a site in place (but do change it as per the feedback).

This is a geat start and well done!! Not everybody gets that far!!! Seriously well done!

Now you need to find your customers... (Should have done this bit first).

Take an hour or so and relax... then write down:

    1. Who your perfect customer is.
    2. Where are they most likely to 'hang-out'.
    3. How you can get your message and website link in front of them.

The results may suprise you... they do me from time to time.
They are not always who and where you might think.

Once you have done that, then what to do next will be obvious.

    Good luck!

I think the site looks nice. A better headline would be advisable. Who is your target market? How do you plan on reaching them besides paid advertising?

Target market anyone whose looking for gift ideas from any age really, could be teenagers looking for mum gifts like aprons and candles or mum buying kids aprons or candy bouquets.

With your type of website, I wouldn't discount Facebook. In fact, I'd go with Facebook and Pinterest. Facebook can possibly even be THE site that brings you the most traffic. Once your audience starts seeing those cool, quirky gifts, they'll share with their friends and audience.

Feature one item a day and make it desirable with a headline and a fun message aimed at your audience.

For Pinterest, add it to your site and start adding them from your site to Pinterest. This is important b/c if you manually upload the image, you lose the link to your website. So you may have to install the Pinterest button on your site to share those images.

Then, start being social and getting people to like your page, follow you on Pinterest by following them...

Other than that, yes, guest blogs are great, but make sure you pick active places to post and post more than once if possible.

Use the link in your sig for your keywords to boost your SEO and rankings for your site.

For social media, make some searches for people mentioning the words "gift" or "cool stuff" or any keywords that go with your niche. Even words like "apron" or "candles" would work because once they come up in search on Facebook or Twitter, you can post a comment to them saying you found a cool apron and insert your link.

Something like this for the imaginary conversation:
That looks cool! I found a cherry apron I love! You HAVE to see it: http://link here

Make it personable because I'm sure you handpicked those items and you love them, right?

Also, keep an eye open for popular marketers that mention they need a gift. Just one share from them can help you out a lot! Plus, make sure you're in touch with editors and fashion mags on Twitter. They hang out there a lot.

Start by sharing their tweets and just talking with them. When they ask for some cool photos of things, send them a link. Or send them a link anyway if one of your gifts would be great to feature for an upcoming holiday or season.

You'll do great! Keep me posted on how it goes for you!
