What monitor/screen size do you work on?

Wondering what monitor size you guys use when working. I have a 15inch laptop and typically find it too small to work on when I have a whole bunch of windows open. I'm looking at getting at 27inch monitor.

So do you work on a big monitor or a smaller one? and do you find a bigger monitor to help you manage tasks more efficiently?

The most screen space I've had is two 24" Acers, but slowly downgraded, and eventually ditched the desktop entirely. I now work with a single 17" laptop screen. I prefer the simplicity, but it's definitely easier to work with a bigger screen, or better yet, a dual setup.

If I were you, I'd go for two 24" rather than a 27 incher.

    1650x1050 - 22" monitor.

I used to have two of those, but right now I am on a single one. Will soon be upgrading to a dual monitor.

19" widescreen, 1440 x 900. Planning on getting either a 2nd one or just a bigger one at some point.

I know what you mean with the laptop. I worked like that all through my teenage years. I didn't even have a computer desk, I just used to use my laptop on the couch, in bed, on the floor, you name it. I would often find my laptop fallen on the floor because I had fallen asleep using it in bed...lol. I actually ran several large internet businesses literally from my bed. My poor laptops took a lot of abuse.

Obviously, as I got older and deeper into my IM business, I realized I need to set something up which will allow me to be a bit more productive. So I got a desk, a monitor, a regular keyboard & mouse, and a USB hub (due to limited USB ports on the laptop), along with some other gadgets like an external hard drive etc. Now I have my laptop hooked up to my 19" monitor, plus the regular keyboard and mouse, on my computer desk. Now when I sit down to work, it's as if I'm on a desktop. However, if I ever need to travel (which I do quite often), I just grab my laptop and go... so all my 'stuff' is going with me. Best of both worlds I guess.

Also, you can have your laptop screen open next to the monitor on the desk as well, and do some cool things by enabling monitor sharing in your system.

Second option is to get a desktop (which I also did recently in a different room in the house) and keep anything you think you would need while you're away from that computer in dropbox, then whether you're traveling or whatever, you can access that stuff through dropbox.

I would recommend anyone with a laptop to get a regular monitor + keyboard & mouse and set it up on a desk and you will find it (usually) increases your productivity and makes things a lot easier in general.

def. go with two monitors man, you will be sooo much more productive and not have to waste time moving windows around...

I used only one for the longest time and once i got a second a few years ago i said to myself i have no clue how i could have gone all those years without two monitors...i currently have 3 now and its perfect for what i do.

My setup is two 23" widescreens running 1680x1050 resolution and one 19" standard aspect ratio...i do alot of web design and programming so i think its always good to have one standard aspect just to get the feel of what it everything looks like in non-widescreen view.

FYI if you do go with two monitors, make sure you learn the hotkeys to manage the windows so you dont' have to drag them back and forth between monitors

Window Key + Left / Right Arrow - Move to half left / right side of screen
Window Key + Left / Right Arrow Again - Move to other monitor
Window Key + Down Arrow - Minimize
Window Key + Up Arrow - Maximize
    Window Key + D - Show Desktop

Learn those and you'll have windows flying all over the place in a nick of time...huge timesaver IMO

I have a 17" laptop that I work on and a 27" monitor on my desktop. They both serve me well. I work on my desktop most of the time and use my laptop for more play type things. Not sure why. I just like to work in my office where I have everything like I like it.

4:3 and 16:9 monitors are fine for me. About the size, I'm cool with a 14". I just want to make sure that the sites that I have are cool on whatever screen aspect ratio.

When I'm watching movies, that would be a different case. At home, I have my laptop connected to an HDTV so that I can watch my movies there.

I'm not overly pleased with my Samsung. The laptop screen is so much whiter being LED, though it's too small do to most of my work on.

and I wish, oh I WISH, someone, somewhere would release a bloody screen (or wipe) that can actually be cleaned without leaving smudges!

At my PeerFly office I have a 27" iMac and a 27" Samsung monitor.

The screen resolution on the iMac is 2560x1440, which is pretty awesome. My Samsung is 1920x1080. I like big monitors, but I'm more efficient using Spaces. I have 4 desktops setup on my iMac that I swipe through with the different screens I need to work with all day and on the main screen I have 2 browser windows open all the time (shown in the image). I mainly just use the right monitor for my instant messengers and the PeerFly live chat. I've always been way more productive with dual screens, but since switching to Mac I've found Spaces much better. Anyone else use them?

      Does your Samsung monitor tilt?

Mine supposedly tilts but I swear it's going to snap at the base whenever I attempt it.

My monitor has been sat and angled on top of a copy of Tibetan Book of The Dead ever since I got it.

I have a single 27 incher. It's overkill but I love having it when I take a break from work and play a little Diablo 3. Plus, it was a nice tax write-off.

If I was going dual monitors (used to have that setup and loved it), I would go with 2 slightly smaller monitors.

I have a 19" monitor. It does the job. My desk is L shaped and the monitor sits in the corner. One side of the desk is against the wall so a large monitor wont work as well. I still have room upgrade but I'm good where I'm at.

    I have a 15" HP Elitebook and a 19" Dell monitor. I also have a 17" HP laptop.

I have to respectfully disagree with the poster who says "adult" IMers all use Macs. I think it's a preference and what you are focused on (e.g., video production or graphics design)..yes those IMers are probably using Macs. But I still think most people are non-Mac users?

Yes? Or am I out of touch?

I just ordered a 24 inch LED Viewsonic monitor from Amazon.ca .... I've spend way too long researching monitors so I just ordered what I believed to be overall good. I'm gonna hook it up to my 15 inch MBP and put the 24 inch monitor behind my laptop. Hopefully it turns out to be a nice setup!

I received that 24inch monitor I purchased. Hooked it up to my MBP. The text is really not crisp at all. I played around with all the settings and still can't get it to become crisp. It's bothering me... and so now I'm looking at getting another one.

Here is the one I purchased:http://www.amazon.ca/Viewsonic-VX2453MH-LED-24-Inc...http://www.amazon.ca/Viewsonic-VX2453MH-LED-24-Inc...
    Any recommendations?

Check your contrast adjustments, also could be an adjustment with your graphics card settings.

I think you should check out this Site closing the lid while using an external monitor seems to solve the problem, also use a digital cable to connect the two.

Thanks, but I think it is an issue with the montor I have itself. I read a comment where someone also noticed the low sharpness on the text and replaced it for a LG monitor. Here is that comment: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1G6A64...=&nodeID=&tag=
            (I have the Viewsonic VX2453MH)

I actually might pickup that LG monitor after reading that comment. (Amazon.com: LG IPS231P-BN 23-Inch Widescreen LED...Amazon.com: LG IPS231P-BN 23-Inch Widescreen LED... )

21'' Dell works awesome for me, attached sometime to my laptop (17'').

Working on a Wide Screen View is great for your eyes as well as it doesnt lowers down your concentration on things possibly when working on data sheets, spreadsheets etc.

One more thing I found which is really great for a wide view is you get a full picture / wide frame of the screen & you dont have to scroll again & again saving your time.

i use 3x24's Viewsonics daily in my office and 3x22's LG's at home all work great... love my Viewsonics... my advice if your having problems with your Viewsonics is check your video card drivers - i had previous ran the tri-screen setup with 2x22 Viewsonics and a 1x24 and the colors where duller on the 22's after upgrading to the 24's, the videocard drivers and the actual cables i noticed a huge difference everything was sharper, brighter and more colorful... well in my opinion it did... and i am someone who stares at the things pretty much 18hrs a day!! lol right now i am on 17" laptop in bed! lol but i do like my ipad over other tablet screensizes, i do think its literally the perfect size for a tablet
