I'm Banned from Amazon Associates Program-Can Anyone Help?

p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; }p.western { }p.cjk { } I received a email three days before from an Associates Account Specialist of Amazon, saying that my associate account is closed because "It has come to our attention that you are artificially increasing your advertising fee earnings by automatically tagging Amazon sessions to your account. "

I even don't know what is "automatically tagging Amazon sessions to your account". After searching for the term on the net, I realized it might means cookie stuffing, although I got no idea of what "cookie stuffing" is.

Then I wrote an email to them and asked them to re-review my site and let me know how can I reinstate my account.

After three days waiting, I received their reply today, and I was so astonished to read their reply:

"Hello again from the Associates Program.

I have reviewed your account and confirmed that you are tagging customer sessions without the user generating a click to Amazon.com. Additionally, we have recently became aware of the fact that you are linking to Amazon.com from a site(s) containing sexually explicit material. The Associates Program Operating Agreement states that sites which promote or contain sexually explicit materials aren't suitable to participate in the Associates Program.

As a result of these violations, the decision to close your Associates account and withhold fees is final, and you are no longer eligible to participate in the Associates Program. Any other accounts you may have or may open in the future will be closed and advertising fees withheld without notification.

Because this decision is final, further requests to review your account for reinstatement will not receive a response.

Best regards,

Gary - Associates Account Specialist"

My questions are:

1. what do they mean by "tagging customer sessions without the user generating a click to Amazon.com"? I could not recall that I ever did any that sort of thing.
2. They said I'm linking to Amazon.com from a site(s) containing sexually explicit material, but I didn't! I don't know how they can draw such a conclusion! Is it possible that some Hiker attached my site and wrote some codes there so that I was accused for the above actions?
3. I really think I'm totally innocent. They said they will not respond to my further inquiry. Shall I wrote them again or just call them directly? Will that help?
4. Can I open a new account with the same IP?

I'm really feel helpless at this point as I don't think I've done anything that violate the associate agreement. I just started being an affiliate of Amazon for four months, and I did put a great effort and time into it. The income from the associate account support me and my ten-months old son, and now I lost all earnings in the last two months. I really got no idea for what to do next. Can anyone here help?

There is not much you can do since Amazon has clearly said it is a permanent decision and they have reviewed your site and found an additional infraction linking from a sex site.

As to the infractions I would review what you have been doing to ensure that you are not using a plugin or something that is redirecting your visitor to Amazon without them clicking through.

Amazon is very good at detecting these and its is pretty much certain your site is doing this as Amazon does not ban people for no reason.

If you are not aware that you are doing it then you will need go through your site with a fine toothcomb and try and see how it is being done form your site so to avoid repeating the mistake..

If you would like to direct me to your site I can take a look but in reality you will need to move on.

May I ask how much you have made in the first 4 months of your Amazon promotion.

    Kickin it on Amazon

      Sorry to hear that.

I'd like to know if you were using any special plugins or themes for your Amazon affiliate site(s) or promotion?

i.e. it could have been a function of some software or tool or process that got you in trouble so I am curious as to your model and tool set.

Thanks for your kind reply. Averagely I earned about 15 hundred per month, and the amount kept increasing.
So there is nothing I can do now, right? Can I open a new associate account with another name?

Read my response right above this one, you don't need new name, just new address, ip, maybe mobile, and debit/bank account. If they require social security no idea how to get around that. Actually for social security you can get that by starting a business, say an LLC, you get a EIN(social security for a business) but LLC costs at least $100 to register maybe more depending on state.

Thanks a lot for your advice!
I'll try to open a new account, but before that, I have to find out the reason for the ban. Otherwise, I have to set up a new site.

To the OP you can try and rent a mailbox from say MailLinkPlus for $10 a month or from wherever. Also change your IP, clear browser cache, cookies etc...If you want to be on the safe side also only use amazon product code on new sites, especially if they blacklisted your sites URLS which is likely. If they ask for a mobile number which I forget if they do or not, just grab a prepaid from walmart $15. Can do same with prepaid debit card.

As others have indicated though you really need to find the cause of why they banned you, research as to what cookie stuffing is then go through our site.

You'll probably have to set up a new site anyway - using your current sites would be very obvious!

You need to find the cause to prevent yourself from repeating it, especially if it was unintentional. If you are specific with themes and plug-ins, we might be able to tell you which one was at fault.

    Did you use iframes?

No, I did not use iframes on my site. The theme I used is WPortal. I downloaded the theme on the net but not from the official WP site. Would that be a problem?

I listed all the plugins I used on my site:

        Oh that is so sad!
I wonder how i would feel if my Amazon account was banned and lost all the money!
Am sorry to hear that. If you have no idea about what the problem is just hire someone to have a look at your site and critically analyse it. May be from odesk or elance...i have lloked at the plug ins you use which some of them i use. I don't see any problem but iam sure Amazon can't ban you for nothing. Something is wrong and you need to find out what.

It is a big loss but i think you should move on. Do it earlier. I know opening another account and all could help or not but if by any chance they trace you, boom! Your account and funds gone again.
So try another affiliate program. There are lots of them.. I do amazon and couple of others. Not good to put all eggs in one basket.

        My view.

Did you used any lousy paid services that promised to help your website to generate more sales? Those services could have used "cookies stuffing" method to 'HELP' you..

On the other hand, one of your competitor(s) could have performed a reverse seo to your website(s), i.e. put your Amazon affiliate link on various xxx rated sites etc.

Please also check if your computer and website(s) have been infected with malware & viruses from your competitors. They wanted to get rid of your websites in the SERP.

              Good luck to you Joycezw

Thanks very much for your suggestions.
I did not buy any paid services, but what you mentioned about my competitors alerts me. This is a possibility. But if this is the case, isn't it too easy to set up someone? Just put others' affiliate links on xxx rated sites?

                  Yes, it is.
Just imagine that you are going to set up someone, how many minutes will it take you to do it manually?

Things NOT to do in IM world:

                  - Never show off your earning on forum sites.
                  - Never reveal any of your money making sites (and your sites in the same network, IP, hosting, etc.)
                  - Try not to make more enermies than friends in forum discussions.

You are right, but just don't do it in a way that your competitors can tell that your sites are making you a BIG money. For instance, you won't promote 10 sties of the same niche or verticle on WF. If you do, we certainly can smell the money...lol

I'm so sorry your site got banned from Amazon Associates. This is scary stuff!

With regards to iframes in themes, I recently viewed the source of my theme (a WP staple theme) and was shocked to see it had iframes, I mean I bearly know what they are but I know they are a no no for Amazon. Needless to say I changed quick smart to a non-iframes theme.

Have you checked your theme's source?

Hope you get to the bottom of things soon.

Sorry to hear that OP, once the likes of Amazon and Google have made a decision like this, it's pretty much final.

That said, you can still have your site earning, have a look at skimlinks.com

There's some other similar sites out there, but that's the first one that springs to mind.

There are all sorts of red flags here:

    - Brand new Amazon account
    - Making $1500 a month
    - From a sexually explicit website
    - Cookie stuffing

You could try a different affiliate program. One that involves adult material so the content of your site does not matter.

Until you figure out what WP code is the cookie stuffing problem, use regular html pages.

Amazon used to be a lot more flexible about these issues. But after dealing with so much garbage and so many scammers they are now instituting these permanent bans - especially when there is a combination of "bad" factors like you have.

It might be different if you were promoting bicycles and got a bad WP plugin.

    "I tawt I saw a pussy cat...."

This is the thread causing all the deja vu: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...n-respond.html

Joycezw - Please read through that thread for some suggestions as to how to deal with this. The thread also points to some information on the Amazon Associate discussion boards that might help.

Some people who received this message were using a plug-in that caused a problem. Some have received it because of some old Amazon code they were using. Some have received it in error. You may be able to get to the root of the problem with the information in that thread or linked to in that thread.

The only difference between the two threads is the reference to linking to Amazon from a site that contained sexually explicit material. I don't think any of us can help you decide if that's accurate without seeing your site or knowing where, exactly, you have placed all of your links.

There is some hope but you'll have your work cut out for you. There are also some alternatives mentioned in that thread (replacing your links with Skimlinks or Vigilinks) for example, but if you don't figure out why the tagging issue came up or why the reference to the sexually explicit material came up, you may run into the same issue so I'd find the root problem first, try to fix it with Amazon, and then look for alternatives if you can't get your account back.

    Good luck!

      Good luck!
      Dear Sojourn,

Thanks for your kind reply. Actually, I have read the thread after I received the first email from Amazon, and I did read a lot of good suggestions in the thread and checked my site against them. As I did not get any result, so I posted my thread here.
However, I just now become aware of one thing:I have a forum linked to my site, and I can recall someone put some links of sexually explicit sites in the forum about a month ago, and I had deleted them immediately after I found them. Do you think this is the reason for the sexually explicit materials charge? But it is happened at least a month ago, does Amazon retrospects such a long period?

Hard to say. If it was still indexed or cached that way on Google or if Amazon's review process has a lag, maybe. If all the references are fully removed, that's a start because you could at least inform Amazon of the issue.

First, though, I'd still research the tagging issue. Did you run the cookie test on both your site and your forum pages to make absolutely sure there's nothing out of place? And have you looked for iframe code that was not provided by Amazon's Associate dashboard?

Second, think of all the places you yourself put affiliate links other than your site. Social sites or anything?

Third, can you still access your Amazon dashboard reports? Does anything look out of line? Click volumes that don't line up with your site traffic, volumes for link types that you didn't use, one tracking ID that has volume you can't explain?

I'm not familiar with some of the plug-ins you mention so I wouldn't cross that off as a possible issue, either, but you'd see something show up in your source code when testing cookies or looking for frames.

If you've gone through all of those steps diligently and are sure there's nothing out of place, try to reach out to the contact mentioned in that Amazon Associate's Discussion Boards thread and see if you can get more detail about what they think is happening on your site.

So sorry you're having to go through this and hope you're able to resolve it with Amazon.

You might want to show us some of your sites here. That could be what's going on.

Another thing that might be going on is a competitor might have stolen your ID and posted links on shady sites to get you banned. If you are honestly not cookie stuffing this might be the case.

Thanks, Cataclysm. Someone has also mentioned the possibility. But how could I hide my affiliate id when it is obviously showed in the links?

Amazon is pretty thorough about this stuff, so if I were you I would absolutely check your site from soup to nuts to make certain you aren't inadvertently breaking the rules. I don't think you will be able to salvage this account, they are very serious about these things.

I would bet that your theme is the culprit here! Unless you download a WP from the publisher's site, you run the risk of picking up a tampered theme that could be doing a slew of harmful things.

There are hundreds of template sites where you can pick up themes...Be very careful! Always be sure that your theme comes straight from the publisher.

        Hi Joyce....

If you get reinstated, I would be more than happy to suggest some good converting themes.

According to the other thread, in regards to Amazon it's when users visit your website and the amazon cookie is automatically set, without them clicking on anything. So if they then went to amazon within 24 hours and bought something you'd be payed when you shouldn't be. So a way to test this as the other thread indicated is clear your browser history/cache/cookies etc...then visit the site and check which cookies were set in your browser(google how to check this). If it is being set just by visiting then you have a problem and need to do process of elimination(disable plugins) one by one, clear cookies etc...revisit till you can narrow down what's causing it. Others said simply searching for your amazon code throughout page sources can help narrow it too. Apparently old/outdated amazon code can in itself cause it, but of course Amazon won't be responsible and reinstate anyone who was banned because of their buggy code. Lastly it could be you violated their TOS via sticking the code in an iframe, which plugins etc... can also do. You can again search your sites source for the word "iframe" to find that.

If Amazon has banned you .. why worry about them? Setting up another site is questionable for the fact an actual human is already on to you. Take into consideration while you are constantly setting up new Amazon sites ... your state or country could easily become non-Amazon friendly and you have wasted valuable time and funds.

Finding relative products to replace amazon should now be your quest.

Joycezw - I can empathize with you losing your account. I live in a state that is likely to implement the nexus-by-affiliate use tax law (aka Amazon law) on/about October 1st. I expect to get my notice from Amazon in a few months. So I'm looking at my options, too.

Anyway, to your immediate problem. If it could be determined what Amazon found (links, plugins, theme design, whatever) it could help prevent others from having their accounts terminated.

All the conjecture doesn't pinpoint the problem. Still, I'll add one thing you could look into that might have been happening. The message you received said, in part, "I have reviewed your account and confirmed that you are tagging customer sessions without the user generating a click to Amazon.com." (my emphasis) This looks more like Amazon found links that redirected folks to Amazon product pages without the folks taking explicit actions. This can happen if a link from a Google SERP goes to a page on your site, but the page immediately forwards them to Amazon. The same could probably happen if someone used AdWords and a link that forwarded to Amazon. Likewise, there are on site ways to forward to Amazon so that visitors are tricked (for lack of a better word) into a link to an Amazon product page that they didn't click.

Since Gaz generously offered to look over your site you should seriously consider taking him up on this. I don't personally know him, but from his posts and other actions I believe he would only try to be helpful. Also, Erica (Sojourn) has a "comforting" way of helping you focus on the real issues while being able to view through and past the problem.

Again, sorry this has happened to you. As the saying goes, that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I sincerely hope you can find ways to learn from the experience and come out of it stronger than you went into it.

      Please do keep us updated.

Thanks for your kind reply! The point you raised is very important. I have to think about it. As far as I can recall now, there is no page in my site that could "immediately forwards them to Amazon", but I will definitely check.
I'm really a newbie in the IM world, and actually know little about site building things. Actually, English is not my mother tongue, and it is more difficult for me to find out the reason for the ban of Amazon. I have to read again and again of the suggestions you kind people posted in this thread and check and recheck against my site.
I will surely keep all of you updated, and hope I can help prevent others from having their accounts terminated.

    Hi There

You should contact your host straight away and have them check your site and FTP files, most hosts will do this for you if you think the site has been compromised. At the very least you can get some answers that way based on the "Sex material".

After your site has been analyzed you will receive an email with the results from your host, if it's true they will be able to give you the exact location of this material which would look something like this: www.xxxx/plugin/line/xxxx/xxxx and have the file to look at.

If your hosting does in fact contact you back and say nothing was found, I would copy that email and send it back over to the Amazon and ask where exactly they are getting these types of results, as you have contacted your host and nothing was found etc...

You can do the same with the cookie stuffing also, just mention it all to your hosting.

    "Jocyezw":
Not sure if you've "solved" your problem yet, but look at it this way.

Amazon was your client and for whatever illegitimate reason cut you as a partner. You are going to spend X amount of time and money trying to get them back for what kind of monetary reward? Is it worth your time?

You obviously have IM skills if you were making money to support you and your child. There are thousands of companies that have affiliate programs. There are local companies you can help get online exposure for (an advertising) monthly fee of $50 or $300 depending on how valuable they see your service.

Point is...just think about the cost/benefit before pursuing Amazon. Oh yeah, I'm sure your post has made Warriors realize that depending on one payer, one type of traffic, i.e. SEO/Google, etc. is risky. So, thank you for sharing your experience!
