3 Things You Must Be Willing to Do

I've learned of three things that I really think you need to be willing to do in order to succeed.

Of course there are always exceptions and people that get by without these - but unwillingness to commit to any of these probably indicates a larger problem it your approach to business.

1. Willingness to spend money
2. Willingness to put in real time to develop truly valuable content
3. Willingness to network with others (in your niche typically)

I agree with these 3 principles. I've heard so many people say, "I want to start a business without spending any money. You might not need money to start, but at some point you need to loosen the purse strings.

There are different variables to take into consideration. The 3 points described in your post would be the most recommended, but not always possible. Specially the second point, where our real budgets not always apply to invest money in our content. Also many people like to do their stuff by their own way (I am one of those), and write their own content, with their personality displayed in every article or blog post.
It takes more time of course, but in my opinion is more professional and unique.

In addition to networking with others, one of the hardest things I had to do with my business in particular was to - put a phone number on my site so my customers can call and speak to a real person - meaning me.

Depending on your business, this can be critical and mean the difference between a sale or your prospects going elsewhere. I've had several people tell me that being able to speak to a live person was the selling point that made them buy from me and not a competitor.

Empathy is another critical factor in increasing sales too. One of my businesses entails dealing with those who are grieving over the loss of a loved one. I told my husband, wow, now I have an idea of what funeral directors go through! This is not easy!

But depending on your type of business or product, you really must be willing to spend time with your customer prospects on the phone or in several emails back and forth, which requires a good amount of patience and empathy to get to the final sale.

      Just my 2c.

    I totally agree with you.

Many people believe that they can start a free site and after a week they will be rich. If you put no effort, time and money on it, there is no success.

Creating relationship is also a very important part, since they can boost your business a lot.

    Hi T,

You make some great points, but I think #1 needs to be tweaked a little bit.

    1. Willingness to invest money in your business.

Spending money for the sake of spending will put you on the fast track to failure. Also, spending money is NOT the same as taking action, though some people seem to think otherwise.

The other part of this is that a person has to be willing to do some thinking/research to determine if what they are buying is an investment, or just an expense.

    All the best,
    Michael

I agree with number 2 and 3 but not with the one. It is possible to start with no money in IM.

Show one example of a 7 figure earner that has not invested any capital in their business. Everyone is always pushing the free line but in reality .. very few make it going that route.

Not saying it is not possible ... just would like to see someone stand up and proclaim .. I make $x,xxx.xxx a year and refuse to spend any money whatsoever on my business. With the proof to back it up.

Good advice...but sometimes willingness doesn't always give way to opportunity. There are many people that would love to work for themselves....just don't know how or where to start....or who's advice and help to believe.

To be an entrepreneur, one must create his own opportunity. Opportunity is everywhere, but few have the willingness to seize it nor the discipline to see it through.

Others may not be prepared to seize an opportunity. I've been there many times in my life. A great opportunity shows itself to you and you don't have the resources (time, money, connections, knowledge) to seize it.

Unfortunately, most people go right back to being unprepared for the next opportunity. They don't set out to remedy their lack of resources.

Start preparing by eliminating debt, learning how to sell, befriend people doing what you want to do, and study real business books and classes to gain the fundamentals.

I found #2 to be true for me. #s 1 and 3 are optional.

what IMHunter said was "it is possible to start with no money."

That's not the same as saying you should never spend any money.

It IS possible to start with $0. BUT, you must then start re-investing your earnings back into your business.

One way to start with nothing is to offer sought-after services in your WF signature. Then you can take whatever you earn and get a domain and hosting, or a War Room account so you can run a WSO.

      All the best,

        Agreed Michael,

I just see so many talking about free this and free that .. and two months later they are writing a thread designed to get people to talk them into staying with internet marketing.

It is great to hear from people that started writing articles and now have their own profitable business going. Too many think they can throw up a blogger .. mail chimp .. and use a make millions in your underwear CB product and be making substantial income in 30 days.

Not even saying that isn't possible but it is not likely.

With the cost of Happy Meals rising, it is very easy to skip a few and have the funds for a start up business in no time.

Business is - well! - it's a complicated business. A to-do-list is a good thing. But you have to be certain that your list is genuinely integrated with your niche. Too many people try to run their business in a very general way ...and don't put the effort into digging into the details of their business. There is one word for this form of effort, it's called planning.

Without a plan, you essentially have no chance. It is a case of hit and miss, and without a planned 'attack' you will have no concept of what is working and what is not. That is where testing comes in ....a combination of palnning and testing, combined with a 'to-do' list. If you are planning and testing, you can update your list as you go. Otherwise, you may end up simply repeating the same actions over and over, with no real insight into what works and what doesn't.

Well, it depends on what kind of business you are in. I know a guy that repairs mowers. He advertises on CL which costs no money. Also, he got a bunch of business cards thru a special offer - FREE as in no money zero. There are ways. Like we all have to find our own area.

Great post. I think number one if the one that people find more difficult to wrap their heads around. There have been so many get rich quick no money down schemes going around that people have unrealistic expectations about IM in general.

Like most have you have shown, there are definitely exceptions and subtleties to all of this.

      Some subtleties I would acknowledge:

      1. Making money is not NECESSARY to START. But at some point, if you want to take your game to the next level, you do need to RE-INVEST in your business. INVESTING right away can kickstart the beginning a little.

      2. I think this is the most important. However, it varies by business model. Adsense definitely does not require content of the same quality as some other forms of blogging.

      3. I would say that this is the least NECESSARY, but also, IF IMPLEMENTED, might have the HIGHEST POTENTIAL to offer.
