Please Help - I have a video going viral and I don't know what to do

I am editing out this post, and will just leave a couple of comments regarding this situation since I cannot delete this post. If you ever make a youtube video...that has you in it, and you think you might want to edit it any part of it before people actually see it, upload it as a "private" video. You can always change it to a "public" video later, after you are absolutely positive it's the only video you ever want people to see.

Otherwise...you could find yourself in a situation where other people download and then re-upload your video to different places without your permission. Then...if those videos go viral, you will start getting gray hair trying to figure out how to deal with it, because maybe the first video you put up isn't precisely the one you wanted everyone to see.

In the words of Forrest Gump... "That's all I've got to say about that".

Thank you to those of you who took the time to read this initial post and offer your advice. I'm still trying to figure out how to get some sort of control over this situation.

Call up one of your local network television stations and explain to them that you are the creator of this video. Play up the heart strings angle as well as the home town hero angle.

Those stations are always looking for compelling content, and because they are network affiliated they can pass the juice around to other stations.

Don't limit your efforts to just the interent...

Good answer Bill, I would also contact the website owners and explain your situation as well as create another video explaining your circumstances. Pull those heart strings.

      ^^^This.

And before you do it get your song(s) available for download. When you have that, put the link to your music in the Youtube text they allow below the video.

Here's the thing. YouTube videos are meant to be shared. However, downloading it and reuploading it is not cool. If you want to reign in the craziness, contact the people that reported and let them know the video and music are your copyright, but rather than force them to take it down, pleasantly tell them they can keep it up, but they need to add your links
