  • They forgot YouTube so fourth

Edit: Why isn't YouTube considered a social network?
  • Pinterest got viral and spread like wildfire quickly. It's really a great social network; I can see why it got so popular.

    • I cant.

There's nothing new about sharing photos.

I dont see what all the fuss is about.
      • [ 3 ] Thanks
  • Yup. Pinterest is on the rise. It's the latest marketing buzz.
  • Most of the IM people know that already, That site also will be ruined very soon just like other popular social networks.

    • Amazing development.

People always think some things are set in stone, for example the eternal dominance of Facebook. Some thought that of MySpace, too.

Things can change quickly and without warning.
  • I do not think it will last. Wait for the first batch of lawsuits over images shared without usage rights.

    • Interesting point. There indeed are tons of photos that are clearly used without any authorization. I wonder what is Pinterest's take (and defense) on this. I hope it's more than "it's user's responsibility" approach because I don't think that would work too good.
On the other hand, no one seems to be actually suing, or even being outraged yet, so maybe Pinterest does have some legal leg to stand on.
      Well, we'll see.

  • Wow... That was quick.
  • If used well and not for sheer spamming Pinterest can drive a horde of traffic. Its a site for sharing and not just promoting products.

    • I use Pinterest 100% on the level and get minimum 3k hits per month, high conversion and sales.

It's so easy to use....well even a novice IM'er could do it

  • Wow! If have not yet jumped on Pinterest to monetize it. I guess I should not wait any longer.
  • I started on Pintrest about a month ago.
  • I first come across it this summer for backlinks and It was a bit confusing, and di not realize its potential. When I realize this march (with the news) I login and see I have 40 active followers. If I had visited it a few times since summer I should have 1000s of followers, shame on me.
  • I think it's stupid.

Yet another social media site offering little that is new or can't be done on sites like Flickr, Imgur, Facebook, etc.

I'll see how things go with others (and for myself marketing on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Google+) before I invest time, research, getting a few WSOs, etc, to start trying it out. No rush.
  • I do read VentureBeat almost daily. It is very, very important to follow!

Pinterest is massive and the marketing potential is huge. If you know how to make your brand or product "visual" and stand out, Pinterest is where you should be focusing your marketing efforts.
  • I'm still kind of meh about Pinterest so this is kind of surprising to me.
  • pinterest is the great place to pin all photo related links from all over the sites.

And collection of albums and structure will be awesome in the pinterest.
  • Well pinterest is still maturing, like many other social networking sites, I think we're still going to see a major growth, new features added int he coming months and for sure their business model is going to mature, take for example Twitter, they still don't find a correct business model (According to VentureBeat) but still they're very very popular... Pinterest will surprise us all in the coming months.
  • I can see why. Pinterest was my new favorite as soon as I got into it.

It is easier, happier and seems to leave out all the drama that is in all the other social networks.

It is also a lot easier to see and ignor spammers and people just trying to make a quick buck.
  • So Pinterest is the now ranking 3rd place in social networks. I think smart marketers will capitalize on this new trend especially looking at the rate at which its growing.
  • I haven't heard much about it until I read this thread. I seen it once as social media icon on a blog but that's it. If it's all about pinning images then I think it might be great for designers (all types of graphics: banners, icons, themes, backgrounds, etc...) to showcase their work. I'm definitely going to check it out.
  • There's nothing new with what they are doing but they are doing it in a new way. The site is also very visual pleasing. I think sm is mostly based on the visual aspect these days.
  • Long live Pinterest and Affiliate marketing to women! They love them shoes!
  • Off the topic a little bit, There is boom already started on Pinterest domains too, I think.
Also many fiver gigs are giving followers too...

    • A boom on trademark violation domains. Whee!
  • Cool, I bet you Google is like "DOH, how come THEY can pull it off, but we CAN'T". We have GOOGLE + on EVERYTHING!

    • You know, the vast majority of people who chase trends never make a penny.

And if you think bottomfeeding is smart, remember what bottomfeeders eat.
