Is PayPal serious? (transaction history weirdness)

So this morning I went to download my last month's transaction history as a CSV file. I do this every month. We all know PayPal transaction downloads are really slow, but something weird happened today.

It gave me a message, "Because of the size of your download, we're processing it and we will email you at **** when it's ready".

Something like that.

Keep in mind: This is ONE MONTH of history. Perhaps 100 transactions in this particular account.

Anyone else noticing this?

So here I am thinking I'll do some book keeping on a nice Saturday morning. PayPal hasn't even sent the notification yet. Absolutely brutal!

This is pretty standard I believe. Most reports I've ever downloaded from Paypal have been emailed to me.

So basically your saying that PayPal can't even do statements properly :-)

Chris, it may have been as simple as a slow processor at the time.

So did you get the email yet? Your post suggests no. Perhaps try again.

No point trying again. It does come, sometimes they take hours to come though. Doing it again won't speed up the process. You are just asking for more information than they want to process on the spot. Otherwise you would be sitting there forever and the connection would time out. Just keep in mind not everyone has super fast Internet connections so they need to do things that will work well across the board. As I say, this certainly isn't new, I've done it plenty of times before.

This has been standard ever since I can remember. It's just a way they distribute the load. It's put in a queue with scores of others. Very normal, and good bandwidth management. It is always complete for me within a few minutes.

WillR - thanks for the answers. I'm glad to know it's not new. I've just never had this problem before.

For monthly histories, it usually just took 15 to 30 seconds for PayPal.com to respond and give me the download.

For longer histories (3 months or 1 year) I've given up on server timeouts. But they have never offered to email me a download.

I'm shocked PayPal can't send me a simple spreadsheet of perhaps 10k file size without big delays. It's insane.

It's not insane at all. Multiply your request times 1000's of others. It's simple bandwidth management. Also, whether it's a a small 10k file or a much larger file, it still uses the same amount of server activity to search the database to retrieve the requested info.

Why does this even rate a thread in the Main Internet Marketing Discussion Forum? Slow news day?

Yes, they get emailed to you.

But I have noticed they take longer sometimes than others.
Could be due to the amount of server traffic at the time or something.

Every transaction report I've received from them has been emailed ...sometimes it has taken a full day or so to get it. They're big and they're busy.
