I'm assuming that by 'mailing list' you mean an e-mail
    list...

If you're just starting out with list building, then I'd
recommend that your first step is to learn how to
use the basic tool: an autoresponder.

If you're just beginning, then AWeber are a good
choice as an autoresponder service provider:

Email Marketing Software & Email Marketing Services from AWeber (no affil.)

Once you've learned how to use the autoresponder
tool, then apply your skills to a market opportunity.

    Good luck.

    Dedicated to mutual success,

Well, I've been around for a while. I just never really got into building a list. That's something I should have did 10 years ago. Thanks for the response

First you need to find out what niche you want to get into.

2nd step is to find a product that you can sell to make commissions.

3rd step is to build a site and on that site you will want to have a lead capture form on it.

Before you do all of that, I suggest that you learn the basics on how to do this the right way. I know of a few products that teach people how to start from scratch.

It's simple: if it's an offline business entice your customers/clients to give you their contact detaisl -> I prefer to get everything phone, address, email, full name, etc.

If it's online create opt-in forms, and sqeeze pages (dedicated to cellecting contact informaton).

Then send your list a regular newsletter, plus offers to buy more from you once in a while.

You don't need to go through all the available programs. The most important thing is to start.

Then as you go along, you'll discover a lot on your own. You will also find more advanced courses later.

It's usually best to make the first step THEN study. At least you'll have some sort of reference point when studying.

Hey there Bill I'd like to show you a simple three step process you can follow if you want to create an email list.

    -------

    1. Get the 'Right' auto-responder - Firstly you are going to want to register to aweber or some other company that is well known out there. Don't go for cheap ones because if you want the sale or any type of conversion you need the message to be seen in the first place...and that is not going to happen if you have a terrible deliverability rate.

    2. Create a solid squeeze page and product - Unless you have a product, you need to make one of some sort. Video products tend to convert much better - simply because it's video. But don't take my word for it. TEST.

    (Or go buy a PLR.)

Afterwards - spend some time on the squeeze page.

Whether you make it by video or text - you WANT to make sure you get the right type of opt-ins.

So you need to test as soon as your squeeze page is complete - ALL the WAY up to the sale.

You may get a 50% opt-in rate but make no sales. As well as get 5% opt-in rate - and every single person bought because they were targeted.

    3. Get some solo-ads - Now that you have your squeeze page up - go to the "Warrior Joint Venture" and browse around.

Make sure that you get the RIGHT traffic.

AGAIN, don't go for cheap solo-ads. You want to test your squeeze page with a QUALITY list.

AND make sure that the list is in the same niche as your PLR or self made product.

    -------

That's really it. Theres nothing more complex to it unless you make it that way (which I tend to do but no one is perfect.)

    David

P.S. - I forgot to mention that you MUST create at least 2-3 follow up emails. Don't create the follow-up email after you test your opt-in rate (which I always forget to do) because you'll end up with a big mess.

    Hi Bill

Stage 1 is signing up to a third party service such as aweber or equivalent to manage the process and keep you can spam compliant.

Stage 2 create a product or free report that people in your niche will buy / opt-in to download in exchange for their email.

Stage 3 set up the form, lots of people get stuck here, but honestly it's super simple and is just copy & paste.

Stage 4, test out the marketing funnel, and keep on working hard to generate traffic.

It is all very well having a mailing list but what you really need is a targeted, strong list of people who are ready and waiting to buy from you. In order to get to this stage you have to build a strong relationship with your list, but it’s not always that easy. The points below are not especially groundbreaking but they ARE the keys to a good strong and healthy list.

The main thing is to look after your subscribers interests at all times. You want to appear more as a friend and trusted advisor to them than you do as a sales person.

    1. Only email your list with offers that will benefit them
Sending out promos to your list is a great way to make money but before you do so always ask yourself the question – ‘will this benefit the people on my list?’ If the answer is yes then mail right away, but if the answer is no then don’t do it. Sure, you’ll lose some profits in the short term (and it probably means you’ll be mailing less often) but in the long term you will benefit greatly and your list will become much more responsive.

    2. Make your emails interesting and content rich

The best marketers ensure that their subscribers actually look forward to opening their emails. You want people to see your name in their inbox and think ‘I must read that because it’s from…x.’ Do this by giving value in every single email you send out. Cut to the chase and give people information that will benefit them immediately. If you can also make your emails interesting then it is an added bonus. Let your personality shine through and make people feel as though they really know you. Tell stories and link your emails into your blog or Twitter account. Share your photos and anecdotes with your subscribers.

    3. Give away freebies
I have heard the argument that if you give too much away to your list for free then they all become freebie seekers. I disagree with this and believe that giving stuff away is a wonderful way to build a strong relationship with your list. Again, make sure it isn’t just any old freebie – only mail when you think it will actually benefit your subscribers.

To your successful email marketing career,

    Dann
