Say I have an ebook... how do I set up a program to mail it after someone pays?

I'm new to all of this.

I see landing pages where you put in your CC info and then the book is automatically emailed to you upon payment. How does one set up such a service?

Thanks!

(sorry if this is the wrong forum - i'm a noob)

That's a common question. you can do it in Paypal but it's not so secure so I suggest using a protection system which hides the location of the file and creates expiring download links.

Sam's DLGuard - Download page protector, create expiring download links script or a service like e-junkie.com are good options and both work with a variety of payment processors.

The suggestions above are great, of course, but I always had awesome luck with digitalproductdelivery.com

    Why?

There are different levels of service, depending on how many products you have, but if you only have one, it's free

Very reliable, good tracking. Just my two cents.

Hum - never had clickbank provide download services - always had to provide a download site myself, but I've not used them in a while to sell stuff.

However, I highly recommend E-junkie Shopping Cart for selling downloads & tangible goods if you're just starting out. You'll need a paypal account and there's a monthly fee.

    good luck!

Next question, if you sell an ebook, how do you add protection to it so it only opens on one computer, or with a randomly generated password?

I assume people don't want their ebooks showing up on torrents and newsgroups.

(I guess the other alternative is to only sell hardcopies, but I think sellers want their info NOW and not in 4-5 days' shipping time)

This is a common concern, but it is somewhat a moot point, since even a randomly generated password would be hard coded to the file by the time it was downloaded.

The problem then is someone who bought the ebook can type the password into a text file, zip it together with the ebook, and then distribute that file.

If it were a software package that utilized an internet connection, then you could do something about when/where it was opened by requiring it to access a server for authentication. But then you'd have to keep that authentication server available indefinitely, or leave a loophole that if it can't reach the server, it behaves as though it was authenticated.

I have signed up for EasyDownloadProtector. It's $147, but that's a one off fee.

I am in the process of getting it set up for my site, so I haven't actually used it. If you go to the web page, there's an audio clip that tells you what it does. Might be worth a look.

I don't add protection to my ebooks. I figure it's too much of a fuss for the end user which might turn them off from buying products from me in the future.

With e-junkie you can set the number of times the purchaser downloads before it expires. Still, it can be passed around once it's on the person's hard drive. However, it is always good to put in some links to other products within the ebook which can result in sales.
