A dummy's guide to plr

I want to learn about plr

1. why bother with it? I mean why not just research on the web and rewrite that, isn't it exactly the same as that process except it's nicely packaged and possibly a little quicker?

2. how much would you pay for plr? do you get it for free? how can one judge if the plr one is purchasing is good quality? what are the important criteria in selecting pr - is it number of pages or is it date of publication or what?

3. how do you make use of plr? Do you use it as a gift to customers on a squeeze page or do you just rewrite parts of it and use it as article/blog content?

4. can someone give a quick explanation of the licensing process? there are about 10-12 different licensing considerations - how do i know if I am using it in line with licensing protocols?

5. what is the most effective plr - week by week courses or e-books or what? i see some plr that is dvd or video based content - that doesn't make sense to me, are you going to send dvd's and videos to hundreds and possibly thousands of customers???

      Why Bother With PLR?

      Used correctly, PLR can save you a ton of time in creating content for your website, mailing list, blog, ebook, etc. You're purchasing content on a topic that someone else has already researched and written with the purpose of reselling it. With PLR content, you don't have to do research and write the material yourself (which is definitely going to take you a lot more time than purchasing a set of articles). You're basically buying a "done for you" product that you can (if you want to) use "right out of the box" or (for better results) edit to put your personal touch on and make the content unique to your business.

      Judging PLR Content for Purchase

      It usually (not always) sells for around $1 per page. Some PLR authors/stores limit the sales of their PLR content to a set number of customers to keep their material fresh. Other PLR sellers will sell content until the sales dwindle. Personally, I think a lot of people are interested in limited PLR because it will ultimately be more unique to buyers' site/mailing list/business/etc.

      There is ALL SORTS of PLR content available - but since you're going to be using the content for your site, you want to focus on material that is not only relevant to your niche but also well written and well researched. Poorly written PLR content with incorrect information isn't going to be very beneficial to you. If you're looking for content on a tech product with yearly upgrade releases such as an iPad, Kindle or phone, you'll want to make sure you're buying PLR that is current but if you're looking for content around an evergreen niche (relationships, health, etc.) then perhaps you're not going to be as concerned with the publication date.

      How To Use PLR

      There are endless ways to use PLR content. For instance, if you buy a PLR ebook about web design, you could:

      * Educate yourself on a new topic using their research
      * Give the entire book away as an opt-in incentive for your mailing list
      * Break up the chapters to use for an email auto responder series
      * Use chapter sub-topics for blog posts
      * Spin the PLR and use it on secondary sites for back linking purposes
      * Create an info graphic using statistics from the book
      * Create a video to go on YouTube using information from the book
      * Edit the book to make it unique, create a cover for it and have it edited into Kindle format to sell on Amazon

      Licensing Considerations

      Typically, when you purchase PLR content, the seller will make it clear on what sort of a license you're purchasing. Most of the time, you can edit the content and use it however you would like to with the exception of reselling it as PLR and you generally have to use your own name or pin name on the content.

      What Makes The Most Effective PLR?

      This entirely depends on your business and how you are planning to use the content. As for videos - folks who do video marketing can take a PLR video, edit it, add their branding to it and use it on their website/YouTube/Vimeo/Anywhere. DIYPLR.com sells really in-depth PLR content that includes screen shots, photos, etc. in addition to their written content.

      Where to Find Good PLR

      There are a ton of posts (some active right now) with suggestions on finding great PLR material. Just do a search on the forum for PLR and you'll get a list of posts dealing with this topic.

        thanks for the feedback guys, one thing i would ask is why pay a dollar per page of plr?

        I mean why not get a 20 0r 30 page document for 2 or 3 dollars or even get free stuff - why pay a dollar per page?

          Because the $1 a page stuff tends to be higher quality. The cheap/free stuff tends to be lower quality.

              I think it boils down to the time you want to spend on re-purposing the content.

              If you have a lesser quality product there will be some nuggets of information in there but it will take longer to find and there will be a lot more rewriting necessary.

              Whereas if you can spend a bit more on a higher quality product then sometimes all you need to do is put your name on it and create a new cover - which can be outsourced if you're not graphically inclined.

              Some of the low-end PLR is so poorly written that re-writing it is an exercise in frustration. Starting with PLR of higher quality really does save you time. There is plenty of bad PLR out there. But some of the better PLR can be serious money makes in the right hands.

              With some of the bad stuff, you would be much better off starting from scratch. Broken English, poor structure, etc. You may find some gems, but it will be rough at times.

                  Not when you purchase from people you trust. There are many people on the forum who sell high-quality PLR. Tiffany Dow, AmandaT, Peggy Baron, Ruth, Lisa Stoops, and many other's I can't think of off the top of my head. Buy a few packs and you'll be able to judge the quality yourself. Don't think that what they're selling is the stuff that's available for free all over the net.

                  It doesn't have to be risky. Many PLR providers will be glad to give you free samples, or you can also check their PLR websites for free samples. I know that my site has free PLR for people to download.

                  In regards to your question about why not buy poor-quality PLR if you're just going to rewrite it anyway. The problem that I've found with low-quality PLR is that it has often been poorly researched (i.e. you don't want to use information that is incorrect as it is your reputation that is on the line). Another time I purchased 40 PLR articles (they were low quality). Although 40 articles existed, they were so similar (just different titles) that all I really got was 15 good articles out of it.

              As someone who has rewritten poor quality PLR and poorly written (really cheap) outsourcing articles before and then trashed them and started from scratch since it still didn't sound good, it is recommended to start with something quality at first, then you can focus only on giving it your touch, or voice as some would say.

              Good PLR can get you started and give you a lot of information without having to research it yourself.

              If the goal is to save time, then buying quality PLR and/or paying a little more for outsourced articles makes a lot of sense.

              $1 per PLR article is cheap. If you were to purchase an article from a writer that speaks/writes fluent English AND does the necessary research to make sure that your articles are factually accurate, then you're going to pay (at least!) $1 per 100 words (on the cheap cheap end). Most PLR articles are between 400 - 1000 words. So while you might only pay $1 per PLR article, it might cost $4 - $10 to purchase that same article from an inexpensive (non-busy) writer.

    I would get it free or paid depending on the campaign I needed it for. I just bought something PLR for about 50 bucks this past week.

    Depends on it's quality. I try to rewrite a good chunk of it if it is going toward a product and add a lot of my own additional information. The thing I just purchased this last week will highly compliment as a bonus to something else I'll be selling.

    It "should" come with a list of rights. Follow the rights given, and when in question you need to question the seller.

    When I've personally offered PLR in the past I like to sell very limited amounts for a higher price. I personally don't use enough to justify signing up for a weekly plr or PLR membership site. I tried it and found I'd rather pay a bit more for one off usage that is more defined for what I need.

    Video PLR comes in downloadable file formats a lot of times.

I tried it and found I'd rather pay a bit more for one off usage that is more defined for what I need.

Because real research and writing can take a lot of time, plus not everyone is very good at it. With PLR, it's easy to rewrite it a bit, reformat it or add to it.

You can get PLR for free but it's not a good idea to use it as web content if you do as it is usually very old and/or widely distributed. There are plenty of other uses, though. Criteria really depends on what you plan on doing with it. I want PLR that is written well and that I know is accurate so I buy mainly from specific providers that I know will provide that.

You can do that and a lot more with PLR. Anything that you use content for, you can use PLR content for. Create reports, turn them into slideshows, make videos, create an email series, create an ecourse, etc.

You have to read the license that comes with each package you buy. If you don't understand something or are not sure what you can do, ask the seller to be sure. Each package is different.

All of it can be effective, when it's well-done and used properly. You usually wouldn't send physical DVDs to customers but it's nothing to be sending them the video to download or to a page where they could watch it.

      When I was in Chemistry class eons ago (lol) we had a day where the teacher was telling us about shampoo.

      At that time, she explained to us how there were primarily 3 basic formulas even though you will see 20 or more brands on the shelf. Many of these brands would purchase one of the basic formulas and then add their own scent or color etc. and then they would change up the labels and the branding so they all looked very different. But at the same time they came from 3 formulas and not just one. And each of these base formulas had different pricing due to how complex or what materials they were made of.

      PLR can be considered like one of those basic formulas. Use it as the base for something and then rearrange it and rebrand it and make it your brand of what ever shampoo you are offering. This is why you should be concerned with the end product - because it it something you are putting/attaching your name or brand to. And what you start with is not all the same thing.

      The selection of that initial formula can be important because it becomes part of that end product.

      Anyone can spew out a few articles and slap the name PLR on them. But not everyone will take the time to carefully research specific topics and create truly unique and informative information that can give you a much better foundation for that end product.

      Typically you can get snippets or samples of what it is you are buying before you buy it.

      Concentrate on looking for content that is very specific to a project and don't be afraid to pay when you come across something that isn't found in every other PLR store on the web.

      I think once you have personally reviewed a few different unique sources you will better understand the "you get what you pay for."
