Facebook Ads Failed, How Can I build a following?

They didn't fully fail. I did get up to a .03 ctr, but people as I've been told won't be itching to "like" a dieting page. So how can I build a following for a Facebook page without using the ads, for a dieting facebook? It's a Personal Health Coach FB. Any ideas?

  • Well, I'd go to the good ol forums if FB is not working out. Paid banner advertising is still very effective, just direct them to a landing page with a lightbox popup asking them to like your page. Add an opt in on the landing page itself with a free offer and you'll be getting 2 for the price of 1.

Also, coming from an advertising background, a lot of it can come down to the creative of the FB ad. I dont know if you are from a design background or what not, but it often pays to get the ad designed and thought out properly for maximum conversion, the actualy wording and marketing message of the ad must be right too, this can often be overlooked in a failed ad campaign
  • Des had a good answer, but there's something even more important here: Are you providing any value at all the people coming to your page? If I went to your page right now, what would entice me to click the like button as opposed to the back button?

  • .03 is not a good CTR, and it is possible to build a diet/weight loss page that people will Like. Keep trying with better targeting and you'll get there.

Also, don't go with a generic "Weight Loss" page. Try something more creative to lead them to the page and make it easy to share... maybe something like, "3 Exercises That Burn Fat," "How I lost 27lbs in 3 Weeks," or "How Chocolate Burns Fat."

    • Ryan,

FB won't approve ads with these this type of copy "3 Exercises That Burn Fat," "How I lost 27lbs in 3 Weeks," or "How Chocolate Burns Fat.".

I have run around and around with them for a week and can't get approved. Cannot use the word "FAT", cannot make claims of weight loss, cannot ... well get APPROVED!!!!

They are clamping down on weight loss ads just like dating, MLM, and such.

  • Have you tried pinterest? I see a number of diet/weightloss websites get traffic by posting before-after pictures.
  • Find someone in your niche who has achieved what you would like to achieve, then reverse engineer what they did.

  • Direct them to another facebook page which you have set up for your advertising campaign and then from their to your website. It seems that this works better than simply directing them to an external webpage straight away
  • Do you think something like this would work? LoveClaw Lovers Page on Facebook | Facebook That's an app inside another app. I just make it for fun - You need ideas - fun stuff that gets people interested before you can expect people to follow you. REASONS & MOTIVES - Nobody does anything without one or the other.

I think I still have one of those weight loss calculator things - let me know if you want me to look for it - and I'll help you - I just remembered I still have this site I've done nothing with yet - Weightloss On Zoloft
It takes team effort and good ideas to get the results you want - any ideas for that app, let me know.
