My Amazon earnings are abysmal - how to fix?

5 replies
I've been doing IM for a few years and have a variety of sites covering various niches - I make a nice second income through the usual routes **BUT** my experience with Amazon is an epic fail. Really poor conversions and minuscule earnings... In an attempt to diversify my income streams I'm taking another look and would love to hear what works for other warriors....

What works well for you?

* Amazon Banner Ads
* Product reviews with a product link
* Selling to mailing list
* Something else...

I know that you need to attract traffic that are looking to buy and given that I'm selling CB product and my adsense earnings are pretty good I'm sure I have a market on my sites - but can't figure why I'm not converting. I'm not looking for it to be my main revenue from IM just another string to the bow and spread the risk from relying on too few revenue streams.

Anyone got any success stories? What CTR from your ads to you get and what are your conversion rates? Is it just me failing at this!....

    Write honest reviews of the products? Linking to affiliate items.

    I have all Amazon review style website. Following are factors I keep in mind while writing article,

    - Article must be at least 500 in words.
    - Not more than 3-4 lines per paragraph.
    - One image above fold.
    - Only 2 affiliate links, one above fold, one before last paragraph.
    - Review research work is prepared from product description and customer reviews.
    - I always use simple white canvas theme

    Amazon disallows email marketing for their products, by the way rules differ for different countries and different states. Check out rules and regulations before you make promotions.

    I have one Amazon site that I have had for about 4 months now that is making around $1100/month. Most of my traffic comes from 3 sources. 1)articles, 2) referrals (word of mouth) and 3)Stumbleupon.

    I think the KEY to your conversion is not just more traffic (even though that is great to have) but GREAT Reviews. I am talking about epic **** here. When I am going to do a review of something, I spend probably 2-3 days researching the product (maybe even going to a store to play with whatever) before I ever sit down and write about it. I want to know everything about it and what everyone else thinks of it too. I also take 1 whole day to write the single review. I don't want it to be a good review, I want it to be an AMAZING review. I think this is the reason I have such good conversion.

    Are your reviews EPIC?

      The most effective marketing method for Amazon products for me has always been through article syndication and email promotions. With multiple exposures, conversion rates are hovering at nearly 40%, and almost all of my subscribers are repeat buyers. Although it is against Amazon's TOS to use direct linking for off-site promotions including email, you may link to stand-alone product presell/review pages containing the affiliate link. Other highly convertible methods being used by successful Amazon affiliates include offline media advertising, classified newspaper ads, press releases, direct mail, telemarketing, and even direct sales.

    I've found that less is more....In other words, you don't want to bomard your visitors with TOO many links. What kills conversions is when visitors come to a site and all they see are affiliate links all over the place.

    When you start to combine affiliate programs on your site, it gets to be overkill and people will click away.

    Focus on giving them a good experience by setting up product reviews on your site of various products. There's more than enough information on products available on amazon as well as other product sites, that you can develop informative reviews. Add a picture or two alongside the informative content.

    If you take an approach of offering information that is sprinkled with your amazon affiliate links throughout these reviews (1% link density is about right), you will see conversions!
