How i wasted 3 years making absolutely no money

Hello internet marketers. This post is especially for the people that are killing it online.

When i discovered the huge potential of the internet to make money online i tried to do so ever since 2009 as a complete newbie in everything. I didn't make a dime!

On my journey, i have spent more than 2000$, not necessarily on wso's but on outsourcing, ads, software etc. Along the way i think i learned all the major methods of making money online and i am serious! Also i mastered Photoshop, HTML, CSS, Wordpress, learned JavaScript, After Effects, SEO and Internet Marketing.

Now I have reached a point where i have absolutely no more money to invest in anything but i don't regret the money spent so far because it got me precious solid knowledge. I even tried to launch wso - video training about how to create websites - because that is what i do best, but i haven't got any sales. I also created an e-book about seo which i'm thinking to sell it to someone else to market it.

If you have developed a large array of skills like i did the logical order of making money online - after my opinion - would be quite like this :

-freelancing
-cpa marketing
-affiliate marketing
-own product launch
-own app release
-create brand

Ok great so i tried freelancing, but no one will ever hire you if you don't have a nice and big feedback. And as with other methods you will need capital to actually accomplish something. I am impatient and tend to overcomplicate things and i didn't even tried free traffic methods like SEO, article marketing video marketing etc. as the ratio work - reward is unsatisfying.

What i need now is a mentor or someone who knows what he is doing and can guide me on how to start from 0 with no investment with proven methods that will work.

Or someone that knows proven solid methods of getting free traffic. This is my only problem! I am very techy and on this side i can accomplish almost anything i want (websites designs logos etc.) and i know how internet marketing works. So it shouldn't be any problem if i can manage traffic.

When i reach the 1000$ mark i can easily expand so my first goal is getting 1000$ relatively quick and with free traffic.

I am waiting for your replies/advice. Thanks

It's great to hear that you personally perceive the money as being well invested.

If you are new in business, odds are that you won't make much money in the first 2 years.

You become better through learning from your mistakes which leads to successful experience.

Anyway, just because you failed since the last two years doesn't mean you are going to continue to fail.

Now it is time to reevaluate what you did and what it was not working.

Because it is a business, you will always need money no matter what you talk yourself into. Get proper training, educate yourself, and work progressively.

Thanks for the quick reply Gerald. I surely won't give up and learn from my mistakes even if it is so damn frustrating. Does anyone know solid free traffic generation methods?

One free way of generating traffic is by using Forum Marketing.

Put aside at least 30 - 60 min a day to reply mindful, valuable, and solution providing comments on threads.

Make sure that you reply to threads where you know answers.

Sounds like we've gone down a similar route with learning IM and various other things.

You sound like you've learnt a hell of a lot, and that's only going to help you in the future, stick to your strengths.

In terms of free traffic .. I've had some luck with that.

I started a blog last year, nothing too serious and I didn't try that hard .. I didn't put too much effort into link building or creating content straight away.

I gradually built it up adding more content and taking more care with link building .. and the important fact here is I didn't go over board ..

I optimised the on page content, then bookmarked all my articles, and did a lot of blog commenting on sites using KeywordLuv & Comment Luv plugins (make sure if you're using feedburner you untick the link tracking otherwise it will hijack your links).

Also sites with the top commentors widget will be a god send, some of my best back links have come from these. - And just comment on sites on a regular basis.

I did get a few blog roll links and experimented with link wheels.

And now I'm on the first page for some competitive terms in my niche and for some of the less competitive terms I've found that I can publish some articles and rank on the first page within 12-24 hours, or in the top 3.

The best part really is that it's still a really small site and I'm doing quite well against huge sites that have been around for a long time.

It's all about getting the most access points to your site as possible.

Other than organic search I've gotten a lot of my traffic from stumble upon, although the bounce rate is sometimes higher than I'd like, but it's free traffic.

The other thing that has been helpful has community sites in my niche where others go to find articles or information on the topic.

There are also some niche bookmarking sites that are popping up now that can be quite good for traffic.

You must be a nice copywriter. I like the first sentence of your post.

There are tons of free traffic generation methods that can get you leads and traffic. You can do article marketing, blogging, video marketing, and forum marketing. These are some of my favorite. You should learn how to make money with NOTHING... in particular starting off with a Blogger blog and making money with it with Adsense and Clickbank/Amazon.

Join a forum in the niche of your choosing (besides the WF!) give great content on there and eventually put a coll sig with your hoplink in there. (not here)

Network with others on Youtube and as you make a few connections, offer to place a link on relevant channels/ videos. Also comment on videos to get people back to your channel where you have some links.

Then comment on blogs related to your niche. Leave witty, useful, or controversial comments with your links in the appropriate form, and that will do it.

Then there's FB, join some groups and again, network with people Free traffic takes time to garner. Be creative and think about places you can get your link into without seeming to be a spammer. Above all, be genuine.

It's not true you can't get hired without portfolio. Do some work for free as and that's your first stuff to show others and a testimonial.

If you really know those skills you can make great websites. CSS and HTML knowledge is very good thing and saves you hiring someone to create a website or WP theme. SEO knowledge will get you free traffic..

Go build niche sites, it's a great starting point to learn IM and make some money. Niche Pursuits | Find Business Ideas, Niche Websites, and Much More! is your site. You can do it without much capital really.

Also JavaScript is good skill so try making a plug in or something for WP.

Yes, in the future i plan on releasing a nice plugin for wordpress but as of now i don't have the time i would want to. As for creating niche based websites and doing some seo (kinda like the ones from google sniper), the amount of time getting ranked on the first page can be veeery loong. Time which i don't currently have. Not to mention that i have to constantly make tweaks and monitor my website's

Keep making excuses or start making money...your choice..

You have the time, watch less TV, you can easily find 2 hours a day to code that plug in. 7PM-9PM is perfect, I'd spend 4 hours every day on writing and link building every day in the past.

Niche sites can rank faster if you do great keyword research and even if it ranks only in 4 months it's still good, doesn't require gazillion of time to manage too.

Looks to me like you aren't really hungry...

    Hi Xellero,

There are a lot of ways to make money online.. Some are making a killing with CPA, some with product launch (WSO, clickbank etc), some with mirco-niche sites etc..

When you talk about driving traffic (FREE).. How I drive traffic to my product launch page might be very different from how I drive traffic to my mirco-niche sites.. For instance, I drive traffic to my product launch page by harnessing the power of leverage - with the help of affiliates (affiliate promote my product, that's how I drive most of my traffic to my salespage).

Nevertheless, for my mirco-niche blog (and personal blog) I drive traffic mainly from search engine sites.. Article directories, social media and other people's blog (no affiliate involve).

Making $1,000 is not difficult (really), especially when you already have 2 years of IM experience.

I think you just need to have a plan, and stick with it all the way (no matter how tough it is).. Once you make money with this plan then you can move on to another plan - it sounds as easy as it is, but ironically, many people fail to see the power of having a plan.

"People don't plan to fail; they just fail to plan"

    Hope this help,
    Jeremiah

P.S. Once you have your will.. You will surely find a way

As Edison said about inventing the light globe "I didnt fail 10,000 times, I found 10,000 ways that wouldn't work"

My qualifications include the following MCSE,MCSA,CIW,CIW Instructor, Comptia A+ Certified to name a few.
All of those certifications taught me NOTHING about internet marketing.

I have been trying to earn a living on the net for the last 12 years, that was my problem, TRYING and not DOING.
It was only when I sat down and wrote out my goals, exactly what I wanted to achieve and how I was going to do it, that things 'started to happen'.

The way to look at the whole situation is not from a 'Theres just too much competition' viewpoint, but from a 'how come theres so much opportunity out there' viewpoint.

e.g. I have just regisered a domain (today) in a well know niche area, the 'Competition' was about 288,000,000 , the REAL competition for the exact keyword domain name was less than 6,000 . So I have 'stumbled' upon a potential goldmine, stumbled I say, because if I wasnt moving anywhere at all, I wouldnt have found it.

My methodology which is working for me:

Write down 4 ways that you can make $1,000 per month on the net.
Break that down into weekly goals.
Then just do 25% of each method per week.

Do that for the first month.
In the next month, do another 25% of each method.
        Just Keep doing it.

Join the War Room if you havnt already, you will get lots of freebies and more help than you can point a stick at.

Yeah surely if i create niche based sites the mainly traffic source would be SEO but the competition is very large. Rather than this i was thinking that it can be a good idea to start with cpa. After that i can easily move to seo as i have some previously earned income and some pace of mind.

And this leads us to a similar question: How can i drive solid free traffic to CPA offers?

    Facebook? Craiglist?

Solid FREE traffic.. sounds like a oxymoron.. To me, there's no such thing as a solid traffic, you either pay for them, or sacrifice your time building them..

Go start a blog and set it as your CPA landing page.. Start writing blog posts and post it on that blog on a consistent basis.

Facebook, craiglist can be a solid "free" traffic.. The question and problem is, are you a solid marketer? If not, then instead of posting thread asking for advise (which you won't appreciate anywhere), go take action, experience will tell you which is solid FREE traffic.

      Jeremiah

Aftera , even if i manage to complete the plugin and post it as an wso, the same traffic problem remains. I don't have an email list, i don't have relationships. I would need an army of affiliates + testimonials which can be very tricky to get.

Just start with the thing... you don't need traffic for WSO from outside WF. You will get views. Give away 5 review copies to experienced members or even a 7 day trial.

Also guest post on blogs that write about similar topic, if the readers can benefit from the plug in they will buy it and blog owner will like your offer too. Example would be having a security WP plug in sold on a blog about niche sites where someone teaches people how to make those sites...

      Stop with excuses...

        Hello,

Another name for planing is focus

        F= follow
        O=one
        c=course
        U=until
        S=success

As i write to you now, i have been online since 2007, spent over $7000 without making a dime. sorry i made little from SFI, Clickbank, Survey but they are so little that i couldn't cash them and i never scaled up my effort and i quit. But nothing was working offline for me i have to come back this year with a real plan and it is working now.

I have almost all the knowledge you have so this is my plan this year,

I hosted four website with a minimum of twenty clickbank products reviews on them except the forex trading niche

I write unique contents and post on them almost weekly

i distribute the same content to about 6 to 8 article directories

I submit them to about 10 social bookmarking site

All the site are having less than a million alexa ranking and many other good things. the traffic grows daily from my google analytics result

My Real plan is to make them a very good authority site, then include adsense and flip them.

One of the site have converted, in fact, in my clickbank account is $36.16 LOL

By June this year i intend selling each site at a minimum price of $1000 because all the niches are hot and competitive and i am ready to work myself to the top.

After then, i will major in building niche site and flipping using low competitive keywords.

        Good luck

HI, I read your posts with interest. Thanks for writing. Two quick comments: The sheer power of Ebay to drive traffic - even if just from the free classifieds- never ceases to amaze me; and two I usually buy products from the banner signature of posters.

I am rather analyzing what could happen. Now the average time that an wso stays on the first page is under 12 hours. That means i would have to bump the thread every 1 or 2 days. Affiliates can make the difference between 100 and 1000 sales and the ones that pop up on the warriorplus are either beginners or won't make any sales at all. So i would need relationships with the big dogs and contact them beforehand. So in order for them to accept me i would need to give something in return. As i can't promote their products the only thing that remains to do is a jv page with maybe an affilate contest which i can't afford.

Thanks for the advice Jeremiah. I am starting to think that what you say is the best option.

More excuses huh? You know WSO sales so well you see the future? I'd say you should go into betting business with that talent man...

If you create plug in that isn't freely available and has it's niche you will sell well. Build a brand, guest post forums and make your name there and you will sell. Opportunities are good gotta start doing something instead of looking for reasons why you might fail...

If you provide good value you will be fine. That's why I think having your own plug in (or product) is best. I do build AdSense websites but it's a Plan B for me as I'm gonna be providing web design/SEO services to have more tangible business. Still, niche sites are great for starting and getting income and I like doing them.

He probably just bought the next flashing WSO that promised huge returns for no work.

The reason people fail is because they dont follow through. Like you constantly complain about not knowing how to generate traffic. Then go to the warrior forums and search for traffic generation. Obviously SEO is primary, with linkbuilding, but i know many sites that get great results with sites like facebook, twitter and youtube.

I'm not a succesful guru by any means, but when I realise i have a problem in my business I google the hell out of it, until i know what to do. Then i DO it.

Obviously you have astounding experience, so just figure out what you are missing from the puzzle, instead of moving on to the next thing. Also the FOCUS acronym is hugely important. FOLLOW ONE COURSE UNTIL SUCCESFUL.

Since you have great skills for freelancing, just figure out how you get more clients. I'm sure if you actually spend time on finding clients, you'll have your entire week booked in no time.

I think we've all been there at some point - spending $$$$ we don't have trying to make money online. If I added up all I spent in the beginning on junk I could have easily afforded some guidance from a reputable mentor and saved myself lots of time and hassle.

Keep the head up and get yourself a mentor - everything will move on a lot faster once someone shows you the way

Your honesty and willingness to reach out for help are very rare traits and I commend you for that! A few things:

    1) If you don't do this step then the rest are pointless....you need to BELIEVE. Don't let anyone tell you that this is "corny". Your mind, beliefs, and thoughts are what will make or break you. You've been going at this for a while with no real return and it's only natural that the voice in your head is planting doubt and saying negative things. Change that NOW! Think positively...picture your bank account growing....your client list getting bigger and bigger, etc etc etc. VISUALIZE positive things and you are already halfway there....seriously!

    2) You listed too many ways to make money. Focus on one. Since you put freelancing first then focus on that to make your first big chunk of money and then you can invest in other methods once you have some extra $ to play around with. If you spread thin then you will always make little to no money. In this case, more is not better.

    3) You do not need a big portfolio to succeed in freelancing! My main income source is freelancing and I make a yearly 6-figure income. Freelancing is a GOLDMINE online! Find ways around it!

    4) Finally, go out there and get it done! You're going to get hundreds of replies on this thread from people that are genuinely trying to help you and that's great! Keep in mind that all of these different opinions might confuse you even more than you are already are. Your #1 skill is freelancing so do that and then do the rest way later.

    Good luck my friend!

Totally disagree that freelancing is impossible with no feedback. Try Fiverr or listing a service here on the WF.
If you have a decent post count and provide a good service and great customer service you can very easily build up feedback and a rating very fast.

I would stay clear of CPA as it can be frustrating. Go for adsense or affiliate sales or work on your own products and build up a team of affiliates.

Most importantly put together a plan of action and stick to it. Don't get distracted by the next big thing

With your skills you could build websites for local businesses.

You could put up a site for a lawn service or car detailer or pool repair business. Then do a search and find who doesn't have a website.

Call the guy up and tell him it's his for $200. Tell him if he doesn't want it you'll sell it to his competition.

      Sell 5 and you'll have your $1000.

I agree a plan of what you want to achieve month by month is a good idea, but you need to set yourself a goal too and it has to be realistic. Something like "I will make $1000 online by June". To make it easy on the maths let's say that is 8 weeks and you only work 5 days a week, so that is 40 days or $25 a day.
Think about what you could do to earn $25 a day. Not that difficult when you think of it.

Then all you have to do is stick to your plan, focus on your goal and how you plan to achieve it. Keep it simple, only pick one method of making money and only a couple of traffic generation methods. Keep at it and do not give up. This is truly the hidden secret to making money online.

Remember it can take 30 days or more for any traffic generation method to really start working.

That is why you can't give up and why many do !!

look, i quit my job as a marketing manager for a travel company 4 years ago (very cush job and excellent perks) and focused on seo which i offered to clients, then moved on to internet marketing as a whole by offering more services and now i am switching to the umbrella term digital marketing because that's what the market is asking for. You just need to be hungry or don't do it at all.."i don't have time to do seo" is bs, if you know it like you say you do then it should not take to long. i just think that eveyone has this idea of making millions from behind your computer when the whole point is to make relationships in the real world by letting them know you are an expert in something. I first made a solid client base with real people before i moved on to cpa, adsense, affiliates, sniper sites , etc.

Based on your skills, a few ideas for you:
You can create websites and sell at Complete Web Sites For Sale!
You can create a seller's graphics pack using PS and sell it as a WSO
You can create graphics using PS and sell it at Fiverr

I don't know whether learning material for CSS, JS etc. is still popular but I can see why a website creation course won't sell easily. There are lots of free tutorials around. Is your training course better than them? Then what about your sales material?

Good free traffic... With the BMR massacre and google's slaughter of low quality content, it has become difficult. You can try going organic and spend a lot of $$$ on link building and get very little in return. So here are my two ideas:

    1) Traditional organic route. Find a niche that converts, and create a site with about 50 articles/reviews based on long tail keywords. Use an expensive link building program like Link Emperor and get a ton of "black hat" links to your site. This will probably get you some money right away, especially if your viewers are real desperate buyers. This would be good in the spyware niche, as the people who visit spyware sites are desperate to buy.

At the same time, try some "white hat" methods. What I am doing for this is having a virtual assistant create a list of all the blogs in my niche and email them for guest blogging. Forum marketing would also work here.

    2) Find a niche that people on FB will buy. Create a page, and have a pop-up that gives a good incentive for "liking" on FB. Then, you create good content on your FB page, and people will share. This will get your site to go viral. Now, the viewers of your site obviously won't be desperate to buy your product because they didn't search for it on Google, so you need a product that is more of an impulse buy, like t-shirts or blu-rays. This method requires no link building and gets a lot of free traffic. There are a lot of good plugins, free and paid, that can set up a site like this.

I have been in IM for 2 years. Made no money the first year and $6000 the second. Trying to figure out how to break through now.......

I sounds like you've spent a lot of time reading about all of these skills and methods but if you haven't done them successfully - gotten good search results, built a good list, made any money... than I don't really think you do know them all that well. Go back and stick to one of them and do it tell you do make something.

If you want $1000 go talk to small local businesses. Build them a website or do some site updates. Do some SEO. Write articles for blogs that pay. You can raise that cash in a week if you actually try.

You want a 1000 visitors. It only takes one good guest post, article syndication or submission to reddit/stumble upon.

You just need to stop reading these board/making excuses and get to work.

Let me guess. When you start up your machine, the first thing you do is reading all your emails to see if someone invented a groundbreaking software to make you money.

    Seriously

with all the skills you got, you just ain't make a dime because...

    - Your not focused
    - Your lazy
    - You don't like to take ACTION, rather read the last over hyped make money offer launched (and there are at least 10 a day, can get you busy very easily)

What you need is A PLAN, TIME MANAGEMENT, DISCIPLINE and a DEAD LINE to get something done.

You can get a niche specific domain, build a gorgeous site, throw in some Off page SEO and sell the whole shebang at Flippa.

Or you do the same for offline businesses.

Fiverr is IMO a GREAT resource to get yourself a buyer list together. I would not do Fiverr for the money, but if you have a funnel, you can make a killer as those leads are qualified buyers - even if you only break even your making money over the long haul.

Ok great so i tried freelancing, but no one will ever hire you if you don't have a nice and big feedback.
Just the advice of a random knucklehead, but I would give this more of a go. Regardless of the trade, every freelancer started out in your position, whether writer, designer, etc.. Testimonials are different than a portfolio. Build a nice portfolio. One thing you could do with that plugin you mentioned, is, well, first build it. Then before you release it for sale to the general public, you could try to get a few design gigs, advertising your proprietary plugin and that your potential customers can only get it from you, and nowhere else, in order to make yourself stand out from the crowd a bit.

Sounds like you have some sites built, so you already have portfolio material. Don't be afraid to look outside of the IM market for work. Face to face still works wonders and there might be some local businesses in your area that either do not have a website or have crappy ones. Make sure you explain to them how your design skills can either create one or make their current one better - and how you can make them more money off of a better design.

That is what they want to know - how you can make their life easier or how you can help make them more money through an online presence or conversions. Be confident.

Best of luck. Don't give up on the freelance side. You can make quick money if you can sell yourself and then be patient and do some tweeking on your current sites as you wait for traffic ...

My honest opinion. It looks like you are what I call an educated fool. DO not take offense to this as I was once there too. COrrect me if I am wrong but it appears that you have spent too much time on education and learning and not nearly enought in the trenches DOING. Action and FOCUS is the only way to succeed. Having a mentor is also very beneficial or simply masterminding with others that are where you want to be.

I have been down the same road, learning everything from graphic design, web design, web development (Building content management systems before wordpress existed), building list of 100's of thousands of FREEBIE SEEKERS (bad idea by the way..well for me anyway), getting top rankings but never monetizing.

It wasn't until I actually tried and failed to monetize that I actually learned how to monetize and the power of leverage. Knowing what needs to be done and having others do it is one of the best things I have ever done. Also if you have the skills you claim... you should have no issue getting freelance gigs. Take it offline, don't hide behind the computer... get out and network. There are plenty of real people that you can touch that need your services.

If you have any clients ask for the referral. As simple as that sounds it works and is often overlooked. Regardless... ACTION and increasing your failure rate are the way to succeed faster. Failure SUCKS but is part of success. Take it all in stride

Interesting thread, only few things to point out.

It seems you try to learn every skill possible. You seem to have learned many skills
but you have no use whatsoever from them? Something not right here. For success
on the internet, and in anything else for that matter, you need only identify and
master only few critical skills and get absolute proficiency with them. Not be the so
    called jack of all trades.

You say you "mastered" all those skills, but that mastery itself is very questionable if
you haven't done any real work. Especially questionable is your Internet Marketing
mastery. How can you say you have mastered IM if you are not making any money on
the internet? It seems that you mistake a vague theoretical knowledge of something
    for mastery.

About freelancing. Many have pointed this as well, and it's a common misconception
that no one would hire you if you don't have experience, references, feedback. Were
those top people born with experience and feedback? No, but they had to advance
through ranks just like anyone else. They started from nothing and worked their ways
up to the top. You seem to want to get to the top immediately. It doesn't work that way.
Stop complaining and start doing something.

Sorry if I'm being too harsh, but maybe that's what you need to break out from your deadlock.

I too often tended to overanalyze..until one day I stopped with the what if?

I found a plan and took action and saw success. And then, instead of leaping
to the next plan, I stayed on the same plan and sang that song until I saw
    more success.

Internet marketing is like a candy store with big eyes looking around and a
new type of candy comes out every single day.

Find one thing that you love online and focus on it. Do it everyday.

If you want to build one site, make it a thing of authority, of beauty,
and of value. Post on that site every single day.

Post on a forum every single day and help someone else.

Google "free email ads" and find the email listings that allow
you to send out ads to their lists free every day.

You have to constantly PUSH yourself and the boulder of fear
    and frustration every single day.

Picture yourself as successful with a fat bank account.

Now reverse engineer that. What did you do to get to that
level of success? Did you make $5? Then you can make $500
    or $5000 or $50,000 online.

You hold in your hand the skills that most people on this planet
will never have....leverage it to get where you want to go.

    Help everyone you can.

If you are doing a niche blog, have a passion for helping
    someone solve a problem.

Pick a problem that is a "hair on fire" problem. Not just
    looking for information.

Find a product with a good follow-up sequence, or make your
own by putting a squeeze page on your home page with
    aweber or another autoresponder.

Don't give up. Sometimes it begins slowly. As your efforts
stay steady promoting this ONE thing every day,you will
begin to see success...then more...then some more.

    Stay focused!

    You can do this!

You have come too far to go back now.

Step forward into your internet destiny.

You have talents and gifts many people do not.

    Use them.

    Help someone else.

I'm not a millionaire but I do make a full time living working from home and have for the past 4 years. I'll tell you exactly how I did it:

      1. While working a crappy 9-5 job and waking up every morning to hate my day I decided it wasn't for me and started looking for alternatives. Stumbled across Rich dad poor dad and 4 hour work week and those two books changed my life (only mentally at that point).

      2. I was shopping for a software product online in a very small but lucrative niche (not sure if I even knew what niche meant at that point). Couldn't find one that met my needs at an affordable price so I decided to try to create a product.

      3. While making $12/hr I saved for several months until I had $800 to hire a programmer from elance.

      4. I worked my ass off for a few months to write every feature out, actions, functions of how it should look and work and then hired a programmer to write the code.

      5. About 4 months later I had a product. I couldn't afford a website so I listed it on ebay and sold 2 copies on ebay to make my first $400.

      6. I used my $400 to hire another programmer to make a website for me. And the next month I sold 2 on ebay and 1 on my new website for a total of $600 which I then used to hire someone for SEO. I can still remember my first elance job listing for an SEO expert. It went something like this:

"Looking for SEO professional. Need my site to be on the #1 spot on google for all my keywords. Budget $300 fixed price."

      7. My rankings went up and each month after that the sales from the site kept growing. I reinvested most the money into professional organizations related to my niche (usually $300-$600 a year). This gave me more link juice and also direct buyers from these organizations.

      8. Reinvested money into adding new features and raised the software price from $199 to $299 with hardly any drop in sales. After I build a client list of over 500 software users I then started offering niche websites to my list at $200 setup and $29/month to build a recurring income...

That's pretty much my business life story. I'm now starting a local internet marketing company to focus on more recurring income and take a little break from the software world. If you think building websites and SEO is hard wait till you single handedly run a software business. If my hair was blacker it'd be gray by now.

That being said here are a few tips:

      1. As many have said you have to take action. Spend time learning something from a reputable source and then ACT. Instead of moving on and learning something else you first need to get your hands dirty with your first project.

      2. Get organized and come up with a system that is ACTION BASED. You need short/long term goals and a way to get ideas off your crazy mind and onto a system so you can FOCUS on the task at hand. GTD (getting things done) system is awesome.

      3. Make friends with someone locally who does internet marketing. You can trade ideas and feed off of each others knowledge and success.

      4. Read positive thinking books and have the I can mindset. Stop coming up with excuses. I hate the word CAN'T and try to eliminate it from my thoughts and vocabulary completely. When I have kids someday it will be banned from my household. I know this is hard at first but once you make your first $ it will give you the confidence and build the "I will be rich someday" mindset which is what will cause you to become successful.

      Best luck moving forward.

One more thing. Although I started in software there are many different ways to make money online. If you ask 50 different successful people here about how they made money online they will all give you a different answer. People are making money online using many different methods in many different niches. You need to find something you're interested in and passionate about and then use your knowledge and skills to come up with a way to monetize it.

pick one and stick to it night and day. i've been pushing 19-21 HOURS a day/night for about 4 weeks. I've done the most work I've done in a few years and I'm LOVING IT. I just purchased a domain name that have 8000 exact match searches PER MONTH in the diet industry... I got that cause I've been stuck to the computer day and night...

BUT, make sure you stick to something you LIKE, you find EASY, and you can do it ALL the TIME without giving up.

I'd mentor you by having you do the work I need done. Hit me up if you are interesting in LEARNING through WORKING

    John,
I have 1 major definite goal, "To create teaching programs, ebooks, and products to sell online and make over $5,000 a month in the next year on auto pilot. That's the amount that would get me retired . Repeat"

I have one main project which in my signature line. Go there, look over the site, the videos, and get a feel for my strategy. After looking at that site you can pretty much decide if you want me to mentor you. IF you do, get my email from the about me page, and email there.

I have several different "sub" projects, that I work on when I get to a 'waiting' point on my main project.

With my sub projects I'm following the process that is outlined by most IMs here. Get a domain, that has HIGH EXACT SEARCHES, LOW COMPETITION, WITH BUYING KEYWORDS (there is a reason for this formula and can go into that later). Then, get it to rank in google, put a squeeze page up and collect emails, by giving away something. In my case a free report. Hit them up with autoresponders while doing an 'easy' sell in each email you send.

You would be managing one of these projects. I'd give you access to the blog, have assignments for you to complete all the while you would be learning, and able to ask me questions on the strategies that I'm using, and use this forum as a sounding board for your direction. I'd have two goals for you. 1) Have a plan for you and get you immersed in IMing so much that you become a master. 2)To make money, as easily as possible, as quickly as possible.
If a domain name doesn't pull its weight after 1, maybe 2 years, I get rid of it.

Email me if you're interested. Its 5:30AM and I have to admit, I'm having fun BUSTING my butt!

Just choose one aspect of IM, and stick to it! Test, improve, adjust it until you make money. Then you can start scaling up, and diversifying as well. Jumping from method to method won't lead you anywhere. Just my 2 cents.

There is JV section in this forum. May be you can find a good long term partnership and good solid income. Nice honesty about your losing money, but it's time to get back. You have to think and act more fast. Stop this thread that only waste your time and go collect some cash!

You have e-book on your hand, that's one of your weapon to get up and fight.

I'd advise him to stay away from WSO's because he's spent enough money and he knows enough, so now he just needs to put the time in to make the money.

Solidify your link building strategy and you will have it all. It is important to have a certain degree of knowledge in virtually all business and art like you do, while it is impossible to do everything yourself, there are little work that normally you are suppose to outsource, but because you have some knowledge you will be able to quickly make adjustment and move on without any delay.

You mentioned you have some IM tools, like how to efficiently use them, find an SEO/link building coach and you can write your income ticket.

If you write down what you did and why it didn't work, I'm pretty sure you could get a couple hundred people to give you $5 for it.

The blunt fact is you are not making money because you have chosen not to.

I've also been here since 2009. I'm also not "killing it" online. But I understand that the reason I'm not making buttloads of money is that I have chosen not to.

When I look at my reasons for that, I think they are good reasons and I stand by them.

They mostly revolve around "it is morally wrong to sell bull**** to stupid people."

We may disagree about what constitutes proper morals and what exactly is bull**** and who exactly is stupid, of course, but that's fine and you're entitled to your opinion no matter how wrong it is.

What matters is understanding why the choices you've made are in your opinion still good choices you should continue to make.

So back up a little, and examine those choices, and see if you might not be better off changing some of them.

I even tried to launch wso - video training about how to create websites - because that is what i do best, but i haven't got any sales.
      THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADMISSION.

There is some really bad info floating around that all you have to do is launch a WSO and all your troubles will vanish.

That area is not guaranteed cash. You actually need a solid product and you actually have to know something about how to market.

You do. You mentioned them in your first post or somewhere and then said it was unrewarding for the effort.

You didn't even put the effort in, so you don't know how well those free traffic methods really do work.

Thanks
    Hey there,

I commend you for building up your knowledge and it will no doubt serve you in the future so you are right the money you have spent is not wasted.

However reading through your post I can see a few points why you may (or may not) be making money.

You said that you have created a book on SEO but want to sell it to someone else to market it?

    WHY?

If you know your stuff with SEO, surely you can market it?

Don't get me wrong I am not being harsh - I mean it literally.

I think it comes down to this:

You have built up a HUGE amount of knowledge but it is what you DO with that knowledge that will count.

You need to find a way to offer your services and have proof that they work.

If they don't work you need to try and try and try until you find SOMETHING that works to be able to offer a service.

You can do it but questions like:

"Is there any guaranteed way to make money online?"

"What is the best free traffic strategy?"

"How long is a piece of string?"

By the way the answer to the last question is "Twice as long as it's middle!"

You see what I am saying?

The answers are there but YOU and YOU alone have to work them out - find out what works for you and then you will be on the right track.

If you want PM me a link with your website building course because that does sound like something you can sell and I will have a look and try to offer advice?

    All the best,

    Chris Jones

Just one thing to add to all those people who say they have been in it for years but are not making any money. Most of what you have to do to make any money is BORING. Learning the skills is fun, reading more sales letters and 'funnels' is fun and exciting. It is exciting to dream about making lots of money. But link building, forum posting, and getting articles in directories is really really boring. Rewriting articles, don't spin, is boring. Having the brilliant ideas for new niches to investigate and get domain names registered and sites built that is all fun. Going through pages and pages of keyword research can be really boring too. Much easier to buy a new wso. Just my personal observation about myself....

I agree completely. That is why one of your skills should be to learn how to post a great job listing, weed out bad applicants, conduct interviews properly, and find VA's that can handle all this for you.
