Build A List vs Direct Linking

So I have my own opinions about this. I've done pretty well for myself direct linking or depending where I was advertising bait and switching.

I wanted to hear from other people is would you rather have lower conversions and a decent sized list OR high conversions direct linking to an offer?

I'm testing the list building aspect now but I have to say that direct linking is amazing if you know what your doing...

Opinions?...

    Hi Dan!

What do you mean by "bait and switching"?

In the brick and mortar world, that will get you into trouble!

Some advertising companies dont allow direct linking to an offer. So you have to set up a blog post and link it to that. But the thing is once the ad is approved you have that blog post redirected to an offer right away

It's a sneaky little trick but works. Just play it smart!

I'd be interested in hearing your method that gives you higher conversions by directly linking than building a list

For the moment I have been direct linking almost all my affiliate career. I hav started building lists in many niches but they don't convert as well as direct linking. I hav realized though...

Weight loss niche is INCREDIBLE for email marketing. With conversions from visitor to buyer increasing by 15%! So definitely liking that niche

Why do you think building a list will give you a lower conversion rate?

If you are making good money with direct linking, you are going to make a lot more with list building, because you can sell to them over and over again.

List building is the most profitable online marketing model. You must use it for long term success.

If you look at the successful IMers/Gurus, every single one of them have a big list. 80-90% of their income are from their list.

Think big, think long term - build a list!

    All the best,

As an Internet marketer I hope you know this too, it's all about testing!

It's going to take a while to test pages that wok great and have great conversions.

The reason it's not profitable for me Right NOW is due to the act that I'm testing more then actually making money. But for a newbie I think the money I am making for just testing the landing pages wouldn't even bother them! So I cannot complain

Well see in the long run!

I have found that I FINALLY made money when I started building lists with simple squeeze pages and offering value.

However, I also get highly targeted traffic with syndicated article marketing.

In my blogs, though, I have both, the sign up to my list opt in form and the direct links in some posts.

I just recently added this to have all bases covered and see what converts. I'm still getting better conversions from my lists BUT the big difference is that I get repeat sales from my lists, too.

So, I say, try it all, do what works best, but don't discount the value of lists.

Some people need to hear about something several times before they decide to buy, I found that out when I had my offline business and I always sent my weekly mailers to the same zip codes in a rotation so each zip code would get it once a month. On many occasions, I'd have someone come in with ALL of the mailers and they would say they've been wanting to come in for years and kept saving all of them as reminders.

Your right when u say people have to hear stuff more than once before they buy!

My weight loss list got me 15% higher conversions already without direct linking which I'm very happy about.

So their is some gold left in this mine

direct linking can make you some good money if you build enough sites and you know what your doing but you will always make more when building a list

the money may not come as quick at the start but as your list grows you will have an asset which is much more valuable than just making a few fast buck up front

there are tech aspects to building a list but its only a case of learning them the same as anything els in IM
