Amazon Affiliate Link Question

Hey guys-

Just got my Amazon account banned. Here is what it said. "It has come to our attention that you are artificially increasing your advertising fee earnings by automatically tagging Amazon sessions to your account."

Does anyone know what "automatically tagging Amazon sessions" mean?

Here is something I "may" be doing wrong but don't know for sure.

I have some Youtube videos with Amazon product reviews. In the description box I didn't link straight to Amazon with my affiliate link. I linked to my domain and it does a 301 redirect to Amazon. Could this be the issue that got my account closed? Could that be what "automatically tagging Amazon sessions" mean?

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Amazon forbids link cloaking and forced redirects, because most of the times these stuffs are done to forcibly put affiliate cookie. This topic has been already discussed several times on warrior forum why not search a little before putting up a thread. Check out this thread http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...n-respond.html

A little clarification may be in order here.....

Amazon does not forbid link cloaking. It does forbid using iframes, sometimes used in an effort to cloak links.

It is absolutely true that it is against Amazon's terms to have page redirects on your site that take folks directly to Amazon without them (your visitors) taking any action. This sounds like what the OP was doing with the YouTube links.

        Thanks for the advise guys!

I'm 90% sure it must have been the redirects from the youtube videos to my website to Amazon.

I bought a WSO that told me to do this. I will now go and blast them on their thread. LOL

          Hey guys,

I read this on another thread - was a direct response from Amazon.

I would have linked directly to the post but I'd closed that tab, but here's the text from the response anyways.

It seems Link Cloaking is OK - as long as you state that's what you're doing. I use Pretty Link on my sites and so far no problem - it uses a 301 permanent redirect.

          Hope this helps

          Dear Gaz

The Associates Program Operating Agreement doesn't prohibit the use of link cloaking services in the Associates Program, provided that the cloaking service doesn't use methods which violate the Associates Program Operating Agreement, such as framing the Amazon site or automatically tagging sessions with your Associates ID.

You must clearly state that the link in question will take the user to the Amazon site when clicked and ensure that the site on which you are posting the cloaked links includes the required statement to identify yourself as an Associate. You must also be able to provide detailed information about the site(s) on which your links have been posted if we request it.

Please review the complete Operating Agreement, including Participation Requirements, for more details:

Several people have run into the same thing recently.

I think this post may help you: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5841974

That post will help you understand what could be causing the problem and also leads to some information on the Amazon Associates Discussion Board that may further guide you in addressing the issue.

    Good luck!
