Advice as to how to Create An Ethical Product/Service?

Hi All,

I have been in around this world for about 4 years but this is the first time I have truly dedicated myself to create a quality information site, build good traffic (not do cheap or unethical tricks), and otherwise truly try and help people and not exploit their good intentions.

Now the reason why I say ethical product, the blog I have developed in 2009 is about Immigration. I am sure we have all heard stories of how foreigners get exploited from basic jobs to the corporate world and this is designed to empower them.

As far as I can tell I am the only real site out there when I do searches for general terms (I already rank highly for a lot of them which is nice) which is not lawyer based, government based or what I know to be just pure exploitation.

Many sites sell information which I know to be easily freely available and make outlandish promises which they cannot possibly back up because of the system. They charge outrageous prices as well given what they are offering. However I know foreigners look at this desperate and pay in the hope that it will help their cause. (if their guarantees were actually true, their prices may be justified)

You may say well these sites have gone out and organized this information that is free and put it in an easily accessible format for people. That quite frankly is crap when you know how the system works and the costs involved.

So like I said I want to provide an ethical service and information these are my current ideas;
- When I have an information product I am thinking to say, a lot of this information you may find on this blog, it is just now in a easy to follow, step by step concise guide
- Offer 10 - unlimited email support for their questions
- Maybe go to a membership type structure

I guess I am just asking the group and people who have had these issues to deal with in their own niches, how they have gone about the process.

Thanks in advance,
CJ

    CJ,

Not exactly sure what it is you're asking. Can you rephrase your question so it's a little clearer?

Ok to be short and simple

I want to create a valuable product/membership revenue source for my niche that is not exploiting them or giving them information that is easily freely available if they were aware?

In that case you'll need propriety information, which means you'll have to protect your IP with patents and trademarks. You'll need a damn good intellectual property lawyer, and will need to go to great lengths to protect your info.

Even then, all it takes is for someone to sign up to your website, download your stuff, and put it on a free website for it to lose it's "uniqueness".

Valuable does not necessarily mean "unique". Your niche are paying for two things:

    1. Conveience, and

    2. The fact that your information is accurate

Give them those two things and you will be providing a lot of value.

Ok when I say unique...I don't mean in the sense that it is IP protected. I think the world is long past that as far as information is concerned.
You are right it is providing information in a way that people can consume it readily and easily.
I want to avoid the fine line in my industry of exploitation of people by praying on their unfortunate ignorance.

    CJ,

I provide freely available information ALL day and sometimes charge for it. But from a different point of view that's refreshing to the recipient of the message.

You might want to consider implementing it. Sometimes doing it leads to a new idea, concept or inspiration that others value.

If you can provide something that might shift the minds of those who avail themselves to your messages, you might end up forming a good tribe that will be loyal to you.

    It's simple.

Offer them solid, reliable information, at a reasonable price based on the value the product will deliver to their lives.

They have access to Google. If they don't want to pay for your product... they won't.

    Seems simple enough to me.

My husband is going through the US immigration process now, so maybe I can offer some good suggestions.

I'm not sure what types of people you're targeting. For example, people coming in on a spouse/fiance visa need different info than someone that doesn't yet have a reason to come to the US on a visa, know what I mean.

Anyway, I think that most of the free information from the government is a bit confusing. I would have liked to know more about the process, what was expected and what they wanted. For example, we recently applied to remove the conditional status. I sent copies of bank accounts in both our names as well as our newborn son's birth certificate. They extended conditional status rather than granting permanent status. Why? I have no idea. Could this have been avoided if I sent more "supporting evidence"?

You could also write a simple ebook and have it translated into several different languages. You may be able to reach a bigger audience.

I think a great idea would be a guide to the interview section. What kinds of questions do they ask and so on. It's conducted in English, so I know that my husband was terrified of what they were going to ask and whether or not he'd be able to answer.

    Just throwing ideas out...

    Love,
    Shannon
