Feedback on starting an Article Submission site?

You mean you want to create an article directory? Do you have the advertising budget like an "ezinearticles" to launch your article directory? Plus, do you have a solid plan and website layout as to how you will make money with your site?

Yes an article directory that people can post articles or a promo for their website including links that will provide backlinks for their site.

I do not have the budget to ezinearticles no, but I'm willing to try anyway and this will be a free service for everyone. So the only way I can monetize the site is with ads.

I really want to try to give something back to the community and at the same time test my skills in every way, so this is not about making the big money, it's more like a test project from my point of view.

I do not have the complete layout for the site, but I have it almost clear in my mind how it will look. The only thing I'm concerned about is how I'm going to make the article tools.

I recently bought a domain name for a lot of money that I think will be easily rememberd and I hope this will give an advantage. I know it won't be enough just to have the domain name, I would need advertising too of course.

I just hope the community will accept my offer and help build a solid backlink site.

Hi there, not often I run into a scandinavian here.

Yes I know Ezine is still good and so are many other article directories too, but I think I've just decided to run for a blog and use quest bloggers and people that wants to promote their business instead. Running a article directory might just be a dead end since there are so many. Blogs have the more potential and therefore might do it better.

It's not a dumb question - it has to do with your idea, I think you have the right approach, but knowing where you live makes all the difference to my possible answer.

Edit: Obviously NOT where you live - just the country you live in.

Thanks for all the feedback. Now I'm not sure what to do anymore as I more clearly see how this may be too time consuming. So I might be looking to find a more innovative solution.

  even though you have decided not to pursue this planned idea of yours, I still say go for it. It's your idea, it's your take and reading in this online business. Sure there's a lot of hardwork you have to do, it is expected. Success or failure in this line of business depends on you. Yes, Panda update slapped EZA, but EZA is still going strong with its adaptation to the tweaks in algorithm of Google. Just see the rigorous editorial policies they implemented since then. Many also still see and patronize other article directories, especially those that have 'do follow' links. So article marketing is not dead.

New authors have to email me with a copy of their proposed first submission and the website links. If the quality is good and the article isn't plagiarised I upgrade their account to author from subscriber - this is the Wordpress directory - then they can submit articles. The vast majority who sign up never email me so the number of accepted authors is quite low and there are only a handful of submissions every day to check. Suits me fine and frees my time up for more lucrative projects.

That's the general subject directory. My travel niche directory is much easier to administer and the AF Pro script cuts out a lot of the spam.

There are thousands of dead and dying article directories out there. Article directories were stylish a few years ago and have been dying a slow but steady death ever since the big Google slap that kicked eZine Articles and others in the teeth. Why do you want to do this?

I would say go for your dream. Do you know when Starbuck first started in the US we already have Gloria coffee but he pushed through any how? He had to ask about 100+ banks before one said yes. Of course now he is surpassing Gloria coffee and have many shops.

It's just because articles directories like ezine articles got slapped it doesn't mean articles are not in style any more. Great articles of course are always in style because why not? If you really care about your reader and write something amazing why can't you get links and visitors as well?

But don't fall into the trap of small mindedness as me before now LOL. Thinking only about making money will trap you into doing things too fast and not doing the job well enough-- think first how to give and all things will fall into place. I guess that is why funnel sales technique is so alluring ... give out free report is so alluring .. everybody loves free stuffs.

You would be lucky to get good unique content unless you could offer something worth authors submitting their content to your site alone when they are better off placing it on their sites first.

Wordpress is good for getting traffic, but my WP directory, even though relatively small took up too much of the shared server resources and is slow. I got a VPS and last week 15 of my blogs on that account were hacked despite me taking security measures. Fortunately Hostgator came to the rescue. Article Dashboard directories get hacked into too.

There probably are too many. An awful lot stop getting updated and eventually vanish because they are not as easy to make money with as some would have you believe. In my opinion the only way you could make a difference is if you came up with something innovative.

I've been running 2 article directories for 4 years now and I would definately not recommend starting one for several reasons.

The main reason is the sheer amount of time it takes to administer them, you get an unbeliebable amount of garbage submitted. If you want to maintain quality you need to be able to speed read to a certain extent, check every article for plagiarism, have a good enough memory to be able to spot when somebody submits the same article with a different title etc.

Personally I wouldn't bother. This is a highly saturated market unless you can carve a specific niche i.e. On a very targeted subject area.
