How to get back up when you get knocked down

I wrote this as a note to myself but felt it worth sharing .

1 , "you are as happy as you decide to be" Abraham Lincoln .
Many "rich" people are unhappy, many poor people are happy.

2, count your blessings , health , family, freedom, values

3, there has never before been a time when so much opportunity is available for the average person.

4, if you lost everything , just how bad would it be ? You won't die, you won't starve .

5, look to the future , you can always achieve again . Do it quicker and better with the lessons you have learned.

6, think and talk about your goals and values.

7, it's life, get over it , roll with it , ying and yang.

Who's had major setbacks?
Branson , Trump , Sugar , Dan Kennedy , Rich Schefren and plenty more besides

    Everyone will have set-backs.

I always just ask myself "How bad do you want this?", then I realise nobody else will do this for me. So I do it myself, or don't do it. As simple as can be.

Once you are making money with IM though, it really changes the way you look at it.

I like the list you have going there. I'll add one more quote that I constantly reference myself when I fail at something or I am feeling down:
For me, it's a kick in the ass at least. You have work to do, and you aren't done until the world has become a better place for having you in it. It can be a powerful motivator if you really think big picture.

    • This is one of the best quotes I've ever read. People tend to pity themselves when they're down.

For me, listening to some good music and reading are rescuers. I read other people's stories. Not only the famous, but anything from everyday people. You can find lots of great stories on internet.

I load my iPhone with great tunes, grab my laptop and a few books, go out. Breathe, breathe, breathe.

  • When I get really down, I go to YouTube. I don't look for the funny stuff, however. I usually start off by watching concert videos of my favorite artists, like Chris Daughtry or The Crabb Family. Then I'll scan down the suggested vids on the side and just surf through music for an hour or so.

Other times, I turn to my faith. Last night I was listening to a radio station when a Casting Crowns song came on. The song is called "Praise You In This Storm," and it talks about how the subject of the song is going through a really down time in his life. Instead of focusing on the negativity he is surrounded with, he chooses to send praises because he knows he will persevere.

If you're not religious or not Christian, you can still find inspiration like this, though. A simple sunset or sunrise lifts my spirits. Sharing a conversation with a stranger is a great way for me to remember good times from the past. Standing at the beach, with my toes in the water, my eyes closed...I feel the water around my feet, smell the salt in the air, and hear the waves crashing and it brings a peace to my soul. I haven't been to a beach in 3 years now, but I can still close my eyes and get the exact sensation back.

    • Ditto. For me staring up at clear nights sky looking at the stars lifts my spirits also.

  • Failure is only a fact when you give up! We all get knocked down at various stages of our lives, however it is our determination not to give in that gets us back in the game.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • Failure is only the other side of the same coin of success! You can't have one without the other!! Dan Kennedy is a great mentor who once said (paraphraze) You will always succeed and fail all the time, the trick is to make money off your failures. As as example, on your blog make a post or series of posts explaining what you failed at and why you failed and what NOT to do to succeed!

  • You have to bouce back like a baby does and smile and say "I can do this ", after all you only fail when you give up, so get back up we are all here for you on this forum.

  • I have always watched this video when I hit a wall. If Lucille Ball, Micheal Jordan and Thomas Edison can pick themselves up and push through, then so can I.

  • My first course of action is to usually rationalise the problem or failure. I find that most of the time it's not actually as bad as I've built it up in my head to be. I also think about the fact that there's millions of people in this world who are in far worse situations than me. I don't have to worry where my next meal's going to come from or where I'm going to sleep tonight but a lot of people have to deal with these problems on a daily basis.

Once I've done the rationalising part, I'm still a bit of a sucker for motivational videos. There's lots I like watching but the video below is one of my all time favourites and really helps give me a boost...

    • A valuable lesson I learned when you're down is this...

      'this too shall pass'

nothing can endure for long, ups and down is a cycle of life.
  • I will take a few days off to be by myself, reflect back on the mistakes I did(minimal without beating mysef up) and then focus on a better and bigger goal than the one I missed.
  • The most important thing is to realize that setbacks are a part of life, and they happen so that you can learn something from them. A lot of famous entrepreneurs have said that the most defining periods of their life have been setbacks. They are fantastic learning opportunities and one should tune himself or herself to make the most of them. I guess it is much easier said than done though!

  • i like what you've wrote here. Inspiring.
  • What worked for me:

People only have a limited amount on focus, and like Tony Robbins says, where focus goes - energy flows. So we must decide first of all what to focus on

And most just focus automatically (unconsciously)
When they have a failiure (or so they think) - they only see the failiure and focus on it, and this creates a scarcity mindset. (meaning that you only think that there is nothing, you can't achieve it, etc) If you focus on it, every so-called failiure can bring you down.... or pull you up.

Thomas Edisson said - I am not discouraged, because every wrong attemps discarded is another step forward.

The ultimate formula for success is - do something untill it works.

How much time would you give an average baby to learn to walk untill you shut him off and don't let him try anymore?
People say, are you crazy? My baby's gonna try UNTIL he walks!
oh, there we got our magic formula. =)

It's not how you fall or rize, it's how you percieve your experience.
All successful people will say that they learned from their failiures more than from their successes. There wouldn't be success if there weren't failiures. It's the natural way of things, to get to something, you first need to fail a couple of times. Not always, but most of the times. So you might as well accept it.

Here an affirmation (to impliment as belief)

There are no failiures, there are just lessons
    - you learn and progress. But that's what life is all about, isn't it? A big lesson to learn.
Don't take failiures personally, they're just a feedback on your actions. Be an emotionless observer. Observe what worked, and if it doesn't - change your approach, and try again UNTIL it works.

there is an exercise to develop abundace mindset (that attracts abundance)
make a list of what you're greatful for that you have, and read it every morning.
it makes you focus on what you do have instead of what you don't have

and visualisations work too (picturing yourself having already achieved your goal) - watch The Secret. It helped me a lot!

    cheers!

  • To experience failures, you must be alive and that is better than the alternative!

Don't remember where I heard that but it has stuck with me for a long time.

  • I always count my blessings every day. There are so many people who are not fortunate enough to have a roof over their heads or a decent meal daily.

I am lucky enough to have a healthy family, house, and a full time income online. I am very fortunate.

  • Awesome post.

    Spot on!

To know what you want you need to know what you have already!
