I just closed yet another thread that seemed designed to draw out the "everyone's a crook" idiots. Time for a little "moderator's rant."

First bit of advice: Take more than 4 seconds to think about your "opinion" before spouting it to the world as though it were Gospel. I realize that's too much work for some people, but it will save you a lot of trouble down the road.

Fact: There are crooks in this business, just like any other business. Probably more than usual, because of the easy anonymity and low cost of entry.

Fact: The majority of people in this business who've been in the game for more than a few months are as honest as you'd like people to be.

Fact: People are far more likely to rant about bad experiences than good ones.

Fact: There is a disturbingly large chunk of the population who are angry, bitter, and generally unhappy people, whose main source of stimulation comes from adrenaline-driven rants about the evils of World+Dog.

Then there are the trolls, whose participation in the tirades is fueled by the desire to stir ____ and watch people fall for the games.

So, here's what happens: A few people rant about problems, real or imagined, and others pick up on the rants and generalize them to an entire industry. When those folks aren't immediately and effectively corrected, some portion of the group reading the rants assumes they're right, and carries that silliness along as part of their belief system.

These human echo chambers then jump in and propagate the nonsense every time someone starts talking about how "Bad" people in the business are. For the most part, they have no idea just how pointlessly destructive they are. But that doesn't change the effect of their venom.

For those of you who jump into the generic IM-bashing, consider: Very few people make a big deal out of getting what they paid for. It's expected. But let there be the slightest failure to meet expectations, no matter how ridiculous and unrealistic those might be, and some folks will go off on genuinely insane tirades.

You know what causes echoes, folks? Too much empty space between the source of a sound and the next thing of substance it meets.

Don't use your head as an echo chamber.

And don't assume that you're not one of the culprits just because you're smart. One of the smartest people I know sent me a note recently accusing a pretty well-known person in this business of being a criminal. His grounds for the accusation? "Everyone knows it."

When pressed on the issue, he had to admit that all he was doing was repeating what he'd heard other people say. He had no actual basis for the claim at all. And I happen to know that what he said was 100% wrong.

If you don't use your brains, folks, they might as well not be there. Or, as someone once wisely said, "If you keep your mind too open, people will fill it with garbage."

There are thousands of people who use this site to learn how to make more money, save time, and improve life for themselves and their families. And there are tens of thousands who've succeeded at it over the years, due in part to what they've learned here. You little poison pen posters are no longer going to be allowed to sabotage those efforts with your persistent and groundless negativity.

Got a question about the ethics of a specific technique? Ask. That's a legitimate topic for discussion.

Got a complaint about a deal you made off the forum? Take it up with someone else. There's nothing we can do about it here, and we have no way of knowing if you're giving the whole story anyway. Or even a little truth about it, for that matter.

Got a problem with a deal you made here? Try to sort it out with the relevant parties. Don't start posting how you got ripped off just because someone didn't reply to your trouble ticket on Easter Sunday. (That moron almost got perma-banned.)

Actually got ripped off by someone selling here? Present your facts to the mods using the Report Post icon. And remember that, even if you're 100% right, we can't do anything more than ban the seller if they don't fix it. We haven't the power to give you a refund, and we don't have access to their sites to deliver their products.

Post this generic, "All [marketers|IMers|other] are crooks" or "All [ebooks|coaching programs|SEO systems|whatever] are BS" garbage here in the future and let me see it, and it will get nuked. Post too much of it and you'll go out along with the posts.

Same for the rest of the generic pointless negativity.

And, for the benefit of the folks who will scream that I'm violating your right to free speech... Get a clue. Go back and re-take your 6th grade civics class. You clearly weren't paying attention.

You have no more right to come in here and talk that nonsense than you would to go into a restaurant and start spouting racist comments in a loud voice.

Go away, and take your poisonous twaddle with you. The rest of us have productive work to do.

  • Paul,

It's always comforting to know that you are watching.

  • Then there are the folks who simply reply to threads like this with TL;DR (but that's great they take the time to reply with such an amazing thought-provoking comment).

So, to sum it up for those folks: stopyerbeetchingandgetbacktowork.

Edit: Moderators should really have some kind of Gibbsmack button.

    • George,

What was that? I was mesmerized by your sig image.

  • There have been times where I've been legitimately ripped off and felt like screaming about it, but I have never taken it up with the forum. Of course, I see threads like that all the time...I just don't know what people are hoping for. Best case scenario you waste time and come off like a pessimist while you're doing it.

I'm glad to see it's time for change...

The way I see it, there's plenty of negativity in life without needing to come here to WarriorForum for another dose. This is supposed to be a place of hope; Internet Marketing is a dream come true!
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I've said it before and I'll say it again, people should be forced to take an IQ test before buying IM products.

(And sometimes before being allowed to sell them).

    • I've said before that people should have to take a short quiz before entering the WSO forum. Two questions ought to do it. One would make sure they understand that there's no button to push for instant wealth, and the other would make sure they understand they are responsible for the decisions they make, not the forum or anyone else.

  • Good grief. Here's a classic example of the mindset: Someone wanted to know if Hostgator was reliable, and doesn't trust review sites. Legitimate concern, right? But what was the thread title?

    "Hostgator scam?"

    Gibbsmack alert on aisle 7!

    • Molotov cocktails are easier to make than a constructive thought for many people.
    • You're being too kind, but it's a lovable fault.

If you Google "hostgator scam" you'll see the thread on page one, position three. Doubtless the thread originator is aware this happens. Why bother ranking his own site for the keyword when he can get a WF thread there in a heartbeat? (Pretty sure Google spiders this place incessantly.)

      Nuke this post if necessary.

  • I'm wondering how long it's going to take before someone starts complaining on how there's no "free speech" or only "censorship" here when it's really not about that (though this is a privately own forum yes?).

The way I protect myself in this forum is I purchase things with my credit card from a certain financial institution who has my back. I only use Paypal with people that I trust and have history with.

I'm glad to see an end (or near-end) of the whining threads. Whining doesn't sell products or grow a business. Maybe it does in Bizarro-world.

Some bitter people have already been doing that for years.

    • Rod,"Starts?" I think you misspelled "continues."

There isn't a single one of the people saying that who actually mean it. They don't really want everyone to be able to say anything they please, anywhere and any time they choose. They just have different ideas about where the lines should be drawn.

They scream "censorship" to distract people from their abuse of the property of others. Freaking hypocrites.I wish. We can't see everything, but we can at least make it clear the bashers aren't welcome.

  • I enjoyed the effort put into your "rant" it is well deserved as there are many out there (in here) trying to honestly get along.

Thanks for taking the time to monitor and keep the warrior forum pertinent.
  • There are a lot of angry, small minded people. It's best to deal with them quick and get rid of them and move on to productive stuff.

Arguing with these people is exactly what they want and is a lose/lose for you.

When these people buy something from me I quickly refund them and block them from buying from me again.

Fire your bad customers and spend your time on the good ones

Its more enjoyable and will make you more money!
  • I totally agree... but, "twaddle"? REALLY!!!??? LOL
  • Paul: I'd thank you and several others in this thread. Many of us know why I didn't.

  • Members of the "Future Image Spammers of the WF" need to teach their bots how to not be so obvious and how not to post where the mods are watching the conversation.

    • No way - I was asleep and missed it when one of those numbskulls actually copy and pasted Becky's post with a cookie whats it called thingy.

      Damn.

Exactly, I know a quaint little blog that says that about here all the time. I tried to correct them on it but they wouldn't publish any of my posts.

      Irony is funny sometimes.

I try to add value when I get on here, but honestly there are days that I log on and can't find much worth commenting on... You have my support.

  • Sheesh!

    I contributed to that thread.

As a long time lurker and only recent participant in the MD forum, I thought it was a valid question. And the OP is most likely an English as a second language guy.
Yes, there was a lot of bashers in there, but also what I thought were insightful posts.

Now I see it is a verboten subject.

Duly noted and apologies for adding to the fray
  • I hate it when you write things I like and agree with Paul

    Well said.
  • There are already a few words banned from use on the forum...I think we should
    ban the word, "scam"...permanently.

It prejudices every thread when it's used in the headline.

    • Now this is a thread long overdue

When something is popular, it attracts a lot of negative people as well.

There are a lot of threads and posts by people who keep whining about the IM world - I just ignore them and get on with what needs to be done for the day. Don't wanna waste time on other people's rant.

Which is why I rarely browse WF thread. (It just takes up too much time and drains my energy seeing all the negativity and hyped up claims - which fuels even more negativity when 'surprise, surprise' it doesn't work for the people who got sucked into it

But you gotta admit - It's a HUGE ATTENTION GRABBER!

      very well said....

even a lot of IM news (especially SEO) just keep spouting the same thing over and over again, without adding anything new to the discussion..

now wait, am I something to this discussion??

  • This post is so spot on in so many ways and on so many levels!! Especially on the need to flaunt one's opinions whether justified or not!! People jumping on your bandwagon doesn't make one right at all, it just means you've won the children's game, king of the hill...with no prizes and no rewards! Unless you can count stunted success from a negative attitude as a prize!?
  • I shore do appreciate you thankin of me!

Let's be honest Paul... there is ONLY one meanin for the word "scam" so you are bein a bit to pissymissable. Any folks with any sense KNOW the word "Scam" means "to get out in a hurry," "to rush away" as in, "The fellar kept makin fun of my britches so I told him to scam!"

Ain't what that means! Let me put that there sayin in a proper sentence for you... "Paul Myers got so dadgum drunk that he had to take a peewaddlin around on his knees!"

That there is usually the folks what are educumated beyond their intelligence!
  • Back in college I got drunk, when to a chinese take away and when served by a slow asian host, I pulled out the racist card!!!! Not a good move!!! 2 guys in the kitchen came out with with knives. I got the hell outta there. Lesson learnt! ha ha.
