which domain extension

I found an exact domain search for a niche that I could probably make some decent adsense revenue with at first then maybe monetize it later with affiliate sales through amazon. It gets around 3000 low competition local searches and the CPC on the google keyword search is ~ $2.50. The only problem is the .com is taken but all others are available. I could grab a single hypenated .com of the keyword as it is available. If you could choose which would you take? The .net or .org or the single hypen .com and why would you choose it.

Thanks,
Brad

How long is the domain name? (characters)

If it is quite long, I would probably go ahead with the Hyphenated version, because people probably won't remember how to re-type it anyway.

Also the hyphen may actually make it more legible.

If it is a short and neat name, I would probably go with .org.

.org simply looks most trustable to me after .com. Though .org is usually meant for Non-Profit organizations (I think).

Either way, if you go with any of those choices you mentioned, it won't make a difference in terms of SEO.

    Best of luck!

      Thanks Andrew for your input.
It is two words, 7 letters each. Pretty easy to read when put together as the last letter of the first word is not the same as the first letter of the second word.

    Hey Brad, you're welcomed.

That sounds good that the words can be read well together.

If you think that your website could pass for a small organization of some sort, then I'd say go for the .org

For example, a site providing fitness information and fitness ebooks, should be fair enough to be named .org in my opinion.

I would usually go for and exact match without any extra symbols if you are planning to rank for the keyword in the domain. Every tiny bit of weight you can add to your sites ranking power helps.

The only difference with the main top tier extensions is really public opinion. As far as my testing has shown me so far there is no effect on SEO unless you are trying to rank in any one particular country. In that case best to do the whole hog and host the iste on a local server and use the countries extension.

.org are usually associated with non profit so i would lean towards the .net as you can never tell if you might put some of your leads off when they land on a site they may possibly consider non profit and find it to be commercial.
