i have been working on small things till now making few thousands dollars a month and now I want to turn big. Maybe a start-up which would be something like hotels or a site which would provide Flight bookings, hotel bookings info...In short a travel site just like hotels.com or tripadvisor

But I dont know how to get started. Can anyone please guide me? Its a long term business business goal

The only thing you can do is start building and provide quality information, reviews, comments etc but to be honest if you are trying to build something that will compete directly with tripadvisor then you will need a few million in investments and even then it probably won't work.

Instead of trying to emulate them you need to set yourself up with a unique selling point, there is not really any point in copying them as they already dominate the market, the only thing that will get you off the ground is coming at it from a different angle.

    Good luck with it though.

Actually I don't find anything different other than providing reviews of the hotels, providing online booking....I don't have money to invest but I do have the time and experience to build something like this...

You are right maybe its tough but isnt there any way for a new competitor?

Hi, I set up a website like TripAdvisor 18 months ago JustFlockTo.com - Find reviews, advice, enjoyable days out, places to visit and attractions local to you![/url].. Feedback welcome... I did this to learn PHP / Mysql, understand how Goolle etc rank site and simply showcase some of the places I've been too.

The key is content and lots and lots off it! I wrote the software / database stuff myself as I wanted more control over what other software offered.

forgot to say sites like hotels.com and laterooms.com offer affiliate services but I've never tried these.

All my data e.g. locations / listings came from free data sources of the internet though you would need to write scripts to manipulate data. It's possible but hard and I doubt I will never get any traffic near what Trip advisor gets - just in to it for the fun

It's a big ask to outrank these authority websites and you will need a big budget to even start to compete. I would just piggy back on them , they have affiliate programs although I don't think TA EPC is great.

You can outrank them on some occasions with your own reviews .
