Freedom, Financial security, Family support, Fun, being able to choose work hours, the rush of product launches, seeing big amounts of money landing in your Bank/Paypal account. Cars, big houses.

All the usual stuff! :p

The freedom is definitely the biggest pull for me, and probably for many others. Who wants to be another cog in the machine, sitting in a cubicle farm pulling your hair out over a TPS report or something? lol

I enjoyed my initial career very much but I've always been a free spirit and I'd rather do what I'm doing now (occasionally pool side) than go back to pant suits and micromanaging.

Being my own boss, making as much money as I want, and because I LOVE technology/Internet marketing.

Every night before I go to bed I peek into my two nephews (we have full custody) room . I go on down the hall and look in on my son ... then a few doors down the daughter.

Then I crawl into bed with my wife of 22 years ..... all the motivation I need.

I love being able to set my own hours, even though they extend way beyond the ordinary 9 to 5.

Freedom, as experienced by the average Internet Marketer:

Spend 18 hrs a day glued to the computer :confused:
Scared to take a break due to feelings of guilt
Unable to convince people you have a real job
Frightened that Getty images might sue you for that picture of Brett Favre's willy you used in your blog.
Terrified Google will drop you from their SERP's
Petrified the FTC might get a line on something you've 'claimed'.

Ahhhh...the 'freedom' of working online

Wow dude .. what part of the international date line are you on?

My motivation is reaching some simple goals:

• Reliable and fuel-efficient car
• Good camera gear
• Non-stop Internet connectivity
• Open road
• Enough money to not care about monetizing what I do with it

I enjoy it
It does not feel like a job
To lead a decent life style and to provide for my family and help others where I can

I want to pay off my bills.

I want the freedom to spend time with my wife and kids.

And I want to provide them a better standard of living.

i think the real motivation for anyone is to live a free life and do what you want. it sounds boring, and parties, women, and fast cars is just marketing that your made to want.

i still want a ferarri, but only after i get to leave my job and live freely anywhere in the world

The ability to work from anywhere in the world (which has internet access) is the ultimate freedom which is the main thing about IM which I love.

And not having to answer to bosses on petty power trips or be around childish co-workers is a big plus.

Lastly, the knowledge that even while I am sleeping, my sites are making me money.

I just love the FREEDOM!!! Choose my own hours! Choose what I want to work on and if need be, with whom!! Money ain't bad either!! Oh and did I mention the FREEDOM??

I do what I do, because I refuse to go back to being a mindless corporate slave, working to make someone else rich.

My motivation is wanting to get the hell out of my 9-5 job and tell my job to go shove it.

One day...

My motivation? To know that I never have to work for anyone else ever again... to live where I choose, wear what I choose and drive what I choose... to be able to treat family and friends to some amazing experiences... in short, I want the choices financial freedom will give me.

There is much more to life than rush hour, 9-5, getting told what to do, rush hour again, getting home too tired to do anything, getting ready to sleep early to do it all over again!

Not only does that usually translate to a mediocre income, it also takes years and health from you. I want to live a long and healthy life and my chances of doing that have skyrocketed since I've been able to work from home and be my own boss!

Money is a sexy bonus! Health and happinesss....THOSE are my motivations!

To have more time with family.

It's simple for me really- my dream has always been to have a job that I love doing. One that I can't wait to get up in the morning and get back to work on.

And, if that job can't be found, then I can sure as hell create it!

IM has been my way to do this.

For me it's about looking around and seeing how much people embrace (and defend) mediocrity.

Then I say "I don't wanna be like this people." Then I go make something happen.

I like being able to sleep whenever I want and not live in fear of being "busted" for it. :-)

I don't want anyone else in charge of my income/time.....except for ME

seeing 95% people stuck in mediocrity and 9 to 5 jobs

Why work hard instead of stretch and watch the TV or enjoy a sunny day?

It is the freedom to work...or not work as I want to.
It is my goals to split my earnings--1/3 giveaway (charities and helping family), 1/3 savings or investments, and 1/3 to live well on.
It is my desire to move on to the next step of my life.

Nothing can be compared to freedom. That's why we work in front of PC to earn much

For me it is the only way to go at this time. My kids have a mother who cook four meals for them a day, take them to school, the park, other activities and pays the bills.

I could be doing more if i were in the industry at this point, I could have more recognition if I were back at university (I´m sick and tired of listening to people who say I am wasting my brains).

But I know that in this world we live today to keep my kids healthy and reasonably happy needs my permanent dog watch.

Why am I doing this?

As someone who truly believes he has the entrepreneurial spirit, I have always wanted to start a business. These days when no one is willing to invest big bucks required to start most real life businesses, this is the next best option. In fact, it is THE best option! You get to work at home, the earning potentials are endless, once you set things up for a lot of endeavors, you will earn a passive income for a long period of time. It's a great great life!

I have three children that depend on me alone. Working all day at a job is not condusive to 'being there for them". So now I work when they are at school, spend the afternoons with them and then work again at night.

One day this business of mine will even allow me to take them on a holiday. That's something that we have not done in ten years.

Oh and of course all the normal stuff; pay the bills, be able to buy clothes for them and the occasional dinner out with the kids. The rest is just material

I am in a bad marriage and have agoraphobia/panic disorder so I can't work a regular job. I'm not making any money yet, but I'm building websites and reading the board everyday to learn how to get out of my situation. I've got very simple tastes so I just need to earn enough to pay the mortgage/utilities on my own income.

My motivation is to leave my crummy day job and be financially secure. I want to have the freedom to go anywhere and not have money be the reason for me not going wherever at my leisure. It would be really cool to travel to my favorite places and bring my work with me.

Pretty much all the above with the most emphasis on the first one.

I actually like my day job quite a bit in my corporate career. But I want to be able to have the spare money that I need to help out my family, and catch up. I make a reasonably living, but I'm certainly not that far ahead, and not because of overspending. My father is in rough shape, and I want to be able to help him out more.

Anything beyond that is simply increased quality of living. If I actually did hit big, I wouldn't mind the stress free early retirement, but I'm being realistic.

Freedom is the big one for me

The freedom to do what I want, when I want. Being able to have my work, work around my my life. Not the other way around like everyone stuck in the rat race.

Oh, and I detest anyone bossing me around

It dawned on me one day that most people are only one step away from the unemployment line. I saw my father put in 30 years at a major company only to get laid off with a "slap in the face" retirement check. If you work a regular job then your entire livelihood rests on your BOSS and his attitude towards your work. That is just plain scary to say the least.

I currently have a full time job that I make about 120k a year...give or take 5k, kind of depends on how much overtime I work during the year. But, I live in California and on top of that, a very expensive place in California....so 120k is not that much money when it comes down to it.

But, I have a comfortable life.

So the reason I am doing this is because I am going to retire in 7 to 8 years and I am looking for my next career. I want to supplement my retirement income in this line of work.

I actually have a buddy that retired and became a greeter at walmart........No thanks!

I love being able to actually look FORWARD to getting up versus dreading the alarm clock (I often get up earlier than I did for work), and having a set of tasks that I can vary each day. The most fun part is when a family member needs a drive to the doctor or a child picked up at school, I can say YES! Or, like today when my daughter was driving through town on her way to the big city, I was able to stop what I was doing at my computer, and meet her for lunch! Now, THAT is freedom. And I didn't even have to ask the boss! (me).

Because I said YES. I also am a Baby Boomer and want to be sure I can provide for my children, my parents and myself when I get older. Fear or pleasure motivated? I think both push my buttons!

When I see those sales, it is like, woo-hoo, let's do some more of that : ). What a life!

it's simple ... freedom and calling my OWN shots!

I think besides the freedom, the tax breaks and the obscene amounts of cash that it can be possible to make, I would say "dignity" is also an issue here..

Working for someone else for Forty years plus, sitting in traffic day in and day out just to service someone else's dream is not very dignified.. well, not to me anyway.

A will to succeed and working on my terms with the freedom of being my own boss.

I am doing this for myself and I am doing it for you. I don't like people getting riped apart from there money and I do enjoy the satisfaction of helping people but I do enjoy collecting those paychecks. Money has never been a problem for me as I have a full time job and can provide for my family. I suppose I also do this to save towards my pension. This might change in a few years once I learn one way to make money online I just need to duplicate and duplicate.

To all you that are starting or seasoned pro's I salute you.

My motivation is to provide for my family! just looking at my two beautiful kids is all the inspiration I need!

I started doing this because I am petty.

In my 3rd year of college, my entrepreneurship professor (who's day job was dealing with small business loans for a major bank) told me that it was impossible to start a successful online biz with zero capital.

After arguing back and forth for a few months, I finally just said "fine - watch me". I walked out of his class, dropped out of college, quit my internship, and have been working for myself ever since.

In hindsight, I understand why every friend I had looked at me like I had just lost my mind. If I had failed, then I never would have been able to live it down.

Great question. There are many answers for me

1) To pay for our wedding
2) To provide a stable second income
3) To have more freedom and flexibility over my work hours in the future

It's the freedom! Plus, the fact that I'm earning more than all the people around me of the same age. Plus the fact that I'm the first one from my former high school class that is pretty much on his own financially and probably the first one who is able to buy stuff like clothes, phones, trips from his own pocket, not with the help of his parents. Can't wait to be able to afford a car

Health, family, freedom, passion and contribution are my big 5 motivators!

I agree with most of the people here in saying that FREEDOM is obviously a major plus to IM and it is one of the top reasons i love being in IM. However, i think secretly we all want freedom, but more than that we want to make bigger money than is normally possible with most day jobs. At the end of the day, I want to be able to work whenever and however much I want and in the meantime enjoy the high life!

Seeing my sites gradually climbing up the SERPs is a great motivation for me everyday. Just can't get bored of watching it.

I'm doing this because I like working from home. It's also a business where most fail, so I'm taking it as a challenge, to prove that I can do it.

My motivation is the fact that once upon a time I owned a residual membership site that made money while I slept. Yes, I was only making $4500/mo at the time, but it was nice not to have to worry about basic needs or bills.

I sold my business long time ago and it was a big mistake in many ways but in some it was the right thing to do, no real business lasts too long on the internet unless you tweak, and change things. Plus competitors starting coming in fierce, so it is good I got out when I did. Now that I have the idea of what is possible its like a hungry man that can't put enough food in his belly! I have been working non stop for a year to get where I am now, an I want my business to be so automated it puts automation to shame, because honstly it is SO POSSIBLE! i also want my business to have a lasting effect. I have studied what works and what doesnt. I am taking some things that I know work, and mixing in some things that have left me with trial and error. Honestly I do not want a billion dollar businss. Just a passive income, that is easy to manage and that has lasting staying power. But yeah that is what motivates me

Watching my parents slave away at jobs that they hated as I grew up put a real sour taste in my mouth for the 9-5 grind. This motivated me greatly to turn to internet marketing.

I'll TAKE ALL THE ABOVE.

Obviously lots of money but also having the freedom to do what I want without having to worry about money or a job.

One of the main things is I want to buy is a Nissan GTR. Best car in the world, can't wait to buy one!

My primary motivation is the freedom to become self-employed and potentially achieve huge financial success from it. Along with that, the ability to help support my family and pay my bills and maybe buy a few luxuries without stress is something that keeps me going.
