Brand New to AM and Need Some Guidance

I've been looking into affiliate marketing and feel I have a basic understanding. Find a niches, set up a site, and start advertising. I can use tools like semrush and market samurai to find keywords and look into them to get a better understanding of my niche. I get a domain name, preferably aged, and host it using w/e. I was thinking about going with the CTR wordpress theme for my site. My understanding of adsense, SEO, and PPC is that adsense is a google service to get paid and SEO and PPC are ways to attract people to your site. I've read that PPC is better to start with and google adwords is good for that. I'll also use SEO but PPC will be my primary source of traffic. I'll start getting backlinks later on to avoid the Google dance. Am I on the right track? Is my head too far up my ass? I need some advice to get started. I'm a high school student with a job to fund this and currently have about 1k to invest. Also, I'm new to this site and am also using a few other sites to research...not going so well

You're on a great start... I'd advise using your TIME and not your MONEY at this point. As a HS student you have more time than money and consider time (self education and drive) as your commodity. You can easily stay up til 3am without pissing off an employer and sleep thru social studies cause you know you won't need that s*it ever again.

I'd go straight for promoting affiliate products - consider focus on social mediums, and consider products you know WELL first hand. I can sell many things, but those that i'm passionate about or as a hobby will always produce better, and a more more enjoyable process while doing the work.

You have a general idea of the whole concept but it's a more detailed process than that.

      1. First you much do some research to ensure that you find a lucrative niche. Not just a set of keywords. Try to find people with a common interest that loves to spend money. These are the people that you will target because you are sure that they buy stuff and thus there will be money to be made in that niche.

      2. Find out exactly what these people are hungry for? What are they already spending money on?

      3. Select great products that they are already spending money on to sell.

      4. Decide how you are going to promote these products. Are you going to set up a blog, get a following and recommend these products to them? Or are you going set up simple one page presell websites? Or are you going to collect email addresses?

      5. How are you going to promote you website- AKA drive targeted traffic to it? SEO? Article Marketing? PPC?

      6. How are you going to scale your business? Are you going to create your own products in this niche? Or are you going to get into a new niche and repeat the process?

      Hope you get the idea!

Oh right I forgot to post my schedule. I go to the gym Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. After gym I go to Jiu Jitsu. Tuesday and Friday I see a chiropractor so no heavy exercise. I work 3-9 on Saturdays and 9-3 on Sundays. Therefore, Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays are the only days I'm not totally swamped with homework, exercise, etc. I try not to stay up passed two because I break out really bad so time is really constrained. I could probably devote my History and English classes to this since, as you said, I won't need that sh*t ever again I'm probably gonna be outsourcing a lot of the writing as well.

Haven't heard of driving targeted traffic or article marketing. How do I affiliate myself with a company once I have found such a product? The way I've learned to find a niche is to find top keywords and look into them. Are there other, possibly better ways?

It's not very hard to find a niche. Think about some of the stuff you or your friends or family members buy online. You want to start out broad and then narrow down your topics.

You can go to websites like Discount Magazine Subscriptions & Deals | Magazines.com and Shopping Online at Shopping.com | Price Comparison Site

      For ideas.

Ok so a niche would be like a specific diet program or high quality audio equipment (specifically IEMs). Gotcha. Will look into driving targeted traffic and article marketing tomorrow morning. What are the best ways to promote my website? And the products?

Hey Jimmy, don't rush into things just yet. I know you are excited and really want to start but with that approach you are setting up yourself for failure.

          Do some fundamental research first.

When you are picking your niche, ask these questions:

          1. Who is your targeted audience: Let's say you are getting into the weight loss niche for arguments sake. Who will you be targeting?

          a. Men or women
          b. People who are extremely overweight or people who just want to lose a few pounds
          c. What age group are you targeting?
          d. Are you targeting mothers who recently had a baby and want to lose baby fat?
          e. Are you targeting women who want to lose weight before a wedding?
          f. What about girls who want to lose weight and get in shape for the summer?

Do you get the idea? Once you can identify exactly who you are targeting, not only will life be easier for you but you'll find that it's super easy to get your message across in your copy which will give you sky high conversions and allow you to make a lot more money without even worrying too much about competition.
