PayPal Credit Card Feature Question?

Hey all,

I plan on charging some of my clients via a Paypal subscription.

First off, can my clients "sign up" for a subscription using a credit card without actually signing up for a paypal account? (I am using a Premier account)

2nd, Can a customer easily cancel a subscription that takes money out each month without actually having a PayPal account? Or is it necessary to have a paypal account to even "sign up" for a subscription?

Thanks in advance!

-Jim

They can't create a subscription without a paypal account. This is because paying without an account is a one time authorization on the credit card and without an account paypal cannot re bill it.

They need to sign up for an account. You could consider using 2checkout.com for credit card payments instead.

Thanks guys, I might go with 2checkout but their setup fee is kinda "iffy" right now.

OK, so if I have a client that I want to bill monthly and they do not have a paypal account...can I just e-mail/send them an invoice each month stating what they owe me? When they receive this invoice can they still use their credit card to pay my stated fee month after month without signing up for a paypal account?

If I had my site set up with a payment page that had two different paypal "buy" buttons. One button was for people that wanted to pay my initial "setup fee". Then I had another different button that was designated for paying my "monthly fee". It would be more work on my end, but would this work?

I realize that my ultimate solution is a merchant account of sorts, but I am not planning on having a TON of clients or registering as an actual llc, etc right now. Plus, paypal has been my friend for about 7 years now hehe.

    Insights? Sorry if its confusing.

There is NO great solution for subscriptions at the moment unless you want the hassle of getting a merchant account.

It's sad to hear that PayPal subscriptions require a PayPal account - I'm just trying to work out if this is going to be a lot of hassle for potential customers.

Although, when I test my 'subscription' button it states:

"No PayPal account? Pay securely using your credit card."

What happens after the credit card details are entered? Anyone know?

I just went to the source (paypal) and learned you can set up subscriptions and send an invoice through paypal monthly to allow payment from those without paypal account.

Bill customers, individuals or groups by email with an invoice, even if they don't have a PayPal account! Include fields for item detail, quantities, tax and shipping. The recipient will receive an email with instructions on how to pay you using PayPal

    Hey,

    Thanks for looking.

From that I understand the customer recieves an e-mail with the monthly invoice in every month - and then has the option to continue or ignore the e-mail.

If that is the case then I'm going to have to forget people without PayPal accounts using my membership website.

Anyone have anymore insights on this? Must be a fair few membership website owners around that don't want the hassles of a merchant account!
