A Reminder for Amazon and Affiliate Site Owners

Quite a few people ask me to review their Amazon and other AM websites because they know I own a few of them. Well I always have a few different tips here and there, but there is almost without fail one aspect that they all seem to over look. Embedded content text links.

They all have these nice looking banners and ad images strategically placed in sidebars and headers. Then they have their ads wrapped in text in the content, but they forget about actual embedded content text links.

For example, let's say it is a Nikon Camera Model X review site. If you have 5 300 word reviews then there are a ton of opportunities there. Every single mention of "Nikon Model X" should be a hyperlink to that products sale page. Also think of the other products you can throw in there. "I found that "camera cleaner x" works great on my "Nikon Model X". "Camera cleaner x" can be a hyperlink to that products sales page, now you have suddenly diversified your sites effectiveness.

I know many people are saying "duh" we know this, but this is for the many people that forget about it when building sites, believe me there are quite a few.

    That is good advice but I think one should be vary of flooding too many affiliate links onto the page.

    One would not want to flood too many affiliate links onto their page. You do not want to make it seem like you are forcing viewers of your website to buy something from you.

    As long as one doesn't overdo it, I am all for diversifying one's site's effectiveness. Thanks for sharing something that a lot of people fail to do

    Very true, you don't want too many. Just like keywords, don't get too high of a percentage with your links or it will be spammy.

    Be aware that if you run contextual links for the Amazon affiliate program, you now have to have a notice on your page that you are a member of the Amazon affiliate program, per Amazon.

      And if you are in the United States, be careful not to run afoul of the FTC rules on endorsements for any types of affiliate links that might appear to be reviews or endorsements.

    I think SEO Smart links (free plugin from the WP depository) allows you to enter keywords that it links to any url you want, and I think you can set a maximum per post...pretty handy..also for internal linkbuilding if you want to use it this way...

      I use embedded text links but they never convert for me.

      Since my visitors are women, by far and away the biggest conversion rate comes from slideshow widgets.

      Don't assume all affiliate sites are alike, or even that a site on which affiliate links are used is primarily an affiliate site.
