Anyone sell anything on ebay?

If so what and how much are you making roughly? Also what's the timeframe been like, where you started vs now.

I agree with what clove said. Information products (even about internet marketing) can be something that don't necessarily have a set value, but could sell on ebay.

I don't do it, personally, because the fees are pretty high on ebay. I do get rid of my old junk on there still though.

I hope this will in part answer your question.

I have a silly story here . . . I was helping my wife sell house plans (as an Ebay seller these plans there is a reasonable market for) and at the same time my niece asked me she to help her make some extra money as she had a stack of Magic The Gathering cards.

I was stunned how many she sold online and that these cards are pretty valuable to the gaming niche for each card has special powers that enhanced the game; some of which could only be had as rare or super rare drops in booster packs to augment the game that players have to constantly buy ( something they both love and hate).

She started to sell these uncommon and rare mixes of cards. In the course of several weeks she had made several thousand dollars. She has since stopped selling but she had a thriving business for many months doing this. I am uncertain why she stopped selling, I think there is a real market for this.

Anyhow from what I have seen there are more people who want to sell you how to courses on selling on Ebay than actually making real money. I will watch this thread because I would really like to see some honest power sellers "fess up" to what they sell and how, without all the hype.

You will find alot of sellers selling low priced... legendary info-courses on ebay. There is money to be made, but only if you can get around their fees. Buy low, sell high... see if you can sell a PS3 or something lol.

I sell domain names I'm not using. I sell for fixed prices rather than auction so that I don't have to spend much time on it and I'm guaranteed a profit. I have about 50 domains listed at any given time and sell 5+ a week. For me it's a nice part time income but I'm sure you could do well full-time if you have the experience to buy the right domains for reg fee. Most of my buyers are repeat customers so it does take a little while to start seeing regular sales.

I am selling physical products on eBay. Have started about 6 years ago. Lost a lot of money, then quit for an year or so, got back on eBay again. Lost money again, quit and then started again. After so many stutters I have finally started to make some decent money selling legit products.

I believe you have to have vast experience in eBay before starting to make real money, many people give up before they get to the real money. But again, there are people who start fresh and are earning up to $6k a week. ( Not me )

Ebay is ok to sell stuff you have at home which you no longer want, but as far as making good money, i gave up ages ago because the fees are far too high.

The fees are high but it sure beats paying for a real shop - I know someone who dropships a lot of products in the UK and there are some good SEO sellers on there as well. I make about $150-200 per month on eBay - Pays for a few nights out

I posted in this thread about my ebay business:
    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...12-beyond.html

I will state my earnings are no where near what they should be for the volume of sales I am doing. To be honest it has been an absolute struggle to get where I am at now and it still is a struggle.

I began my IM career as an Ebay seller and actually did pretty well. I am still listed as a Powerseller and I haven't sold anything in almost a year.

However, putting up with the ridiculous fees and all the changes that penalize sellers really turned me off. But thanks to the Penguin update, I may have to get back in!!

I used to sell stuff on ebay about 10-12 years ago. I didn't sell a lot but what I did put up sold for more than I paid for it. My friend used to collect and sell Transformers toys (good niche) and made good money.

Ebay has changed, however, and I don't think I'll be using it anymore. I recently put some old skeleton keys up for sale (still have a lot if anyone is interested). They sold fairly quickly and for a good price but then the problems began.

First ebay sends the payment to the wrong address, one for which I don't have a Paypal account, despite the fact that I entered my PP address. Then, when I get that sorted, I find out that Ebay is going to hold the payment until "The estimated delivery date" or about 14+ days.

So basically, they want me to send out the product without being paid and pay for the shipping out of pocket (Shipping was at least $15 to Canada, the whole sale was about $20 before shipping) and then hope that nothing goes wrong. If that's how Ebay wants to do it then I'm not going to play. I should get paid, send out the item and that's it.

I have, however, been selling things on Craigslist and made about $250 or so this month with only 3 sales. 4 bar stools at $140, 2 small stained glass panels for $50 and 3 larger panels for $60.

Craigslist is great, no fees, the customers pay in cash and they come to pick the item up themselves. I did have about 8 people express an interest in the stools, a few of them even said they were going to pick them up and never came by. CL people can be a bit flaky.

I'm thinking of having a garage sale this month. I collect a lot of weird stuff and money is money right?

(sorry for such a rambling post, haven't had enough coffee yet)

I attended 2 book sales over the weekend of people who had ebay book stores. They both quit due to the high fees and the economy. I did luck out and get some great books at some outstanding prices. I sell things on eBay every once in a while but have also used Craigslist.

I'm a sucker for book sales. My wife has banned me from buying any more books until I start selling some. I still sneak a few in every now and then lol

Have you tried selling books on places like Alibris, and ABEbooks? I've been wondering if they're any good. (ABE is great for buying, I bought 12 books for $20 once!)

My wife bought me a Kindle thinking it would curb my love of buying books. The Kindle is great and everything but I still prefer books. I've also run out of room in my home for them and should really think about selling some. I really don't want to though. I will have to check out Alibris. I have purchased books from ABE though and have gotten some great deals also.

One of the best places to sell books is ...Amazon. In addition you can sell all kinds of other goods on Amazon. I have sold everything from workout weights to covers for books. If it is listed you can almost always sell it and faster than at other sites.

Haha, yeah, no e-reader will ever truly replace books. My library has taken over our guest bedroom. My wife wasn't happy about it until I explained that I could take all my weird stuff and put it in that room and she could close the door.

I'll check out Amazon. Most of my books are rather old, like 60 - 100+ years old.

I still like Craigslist for selling random stuff. It's hard to tell what will sell and it might take a little bit of time but the selling is easy as can be. They come by my house, I help them load it in their car and they give me cash.

One of the best ways to make money with ebay is to sell items that you can list over and over again and do not have to make individual listings for. So things like sterling silver charms, bubble wrap etc. can be great to sell.

When you get into having to buy and list individually, you will want to find items that have a high markup and you can make 3-4 times what you paid at least.

It is essential to cut back on shipping fees by buying mailers in bulk, reusing boxes, picking up free bubble wrap at stores getting rid of it etc.

Ebay can be a good source for extra income and even a full time income, you just have to work it right.

Years ago, when not many old people knew about ebay. I made some pretty good cash. I would go to yard sales, haggle them down really good on items. I then, would turn around and flip them.

Some of the items I sold made me a lot of profit. For example, I bought a lot of "war" stuff. I paid 2 bucks for a canteen, that canteen alone sold for $200! That was just one of the items....

I just started getting back into ebay again, but like everyone else its getting pretty ridiculous!

Yes I use to sell on ebay about 4 years ago. Only reason I did it was because I saw a specific opportunity (gap in the market) and capitalized on it.

I wound up profiting $40,000 in only 6 months. Then I never sold anything on ebay again. =]

There was a specific reason the product sold as fast as it did though. I found out ebay would be banning the product, and when I realized I had a source for it, I decided to list it on ebay. I'll tell you one thing I learned, if you ever hear ebay say "we're going to ban x product 6 months from now", list that product on ebay and you'll see people are going crazy buying it.

I had friends do this too with certain weight loss supplements, which was where I got the idea from. Very important not to sell past the ban though as they will wind up taking all your listings down.

Anyway, thats my story, like it or not.

Dropshipping definitely works but takes a ton of time to set up. But so do alot of other internet marketing techniques. I've made money elsewhere creating my own products as well as selling physical stuff as well. The key is to have a consistent supply of inventory, which can be tricky at times.

Yes, I've been selling on eBay for years. It is getting harder and harder - they do change their policies often and usually not to benefit the sellers! Finding the right item/niche is the key. I've done the buy at garage sales and sell on eBay before - it works sometimes, but it a lot of work and a lot of time! Best of luck!

Have sold let's say $10k+ in the last month. What you really need to do is grow your sales through experience, as you get more experience you'll know the right ways to drive traffic to your listings, more importantly convert the traffic to sales.

Can't give too much away regarding what I was and am still selling.

I only sell in Australia BTW.

ebay aint what is used to be,, its dying a slow death, sparse traffic, sporadic and if you read the powerseller bulletin board,, sellers are closing up their shops everyday.ebay hates sellers and will do everything possible to put you out of business.

recently they seem to be catering to chinese sellers.

I sell a lot on fee bay, but do not many money. The fees are part of sorry saga. Also, there is postage which keeps going up. I use to sell using the FREE SHIP as an incentive, but lost a lot of green. Also, USPS is a lot slower now. Customers can get very angry. They expect me to ship my product out ASAP, and supply them with a tracking number right away. Then they fuss on how long my package takes to arrive. Hey, I am sorry guys. UPS and FEDEX are too expensive.

I am another former eBay seller. I used to sell my art work and instructional DVDs that I made and I eventually branched out into selling other items to try to make some more money. The artwork and DVDs never made quite as much as I would've liked.

EBay just kept raising their fees and between eBay and PayPal fees, selling on eBay just became too expensive. Every time I would have a decent week I would look at how much I paid in fees and realize that I actually made quite a bit less than I thought.

They also made some changes to the feedback system that were very much anti-seller. That was the last straw for me and I stopped selling on eBay a few years ago.

Wao... ebay has really changed a lot these days. Thanks for the posts. I was previously a seller in ebay back in the university, selling books normally. Recently I am planning to venture into selling some handcraft gifts, and Ebay is one of the first one that I thought off. Great that all had shared this, and I will really need to look into whether it is worthwhile to do so. Thanks!

Ebay is much like any marketplace and like ALL marketplace you need to do some research first BEFORE you can just post stuff up for sell.

You want to spend time finding out what they want and cross check the copmpleted listings to see if they are selling at all.

What I do is check out pulse.ebay.com first to get liat of the top searched items by category.

From there I do an advanced search and click "Show completed listings" to see if and HOW MUCH they sale for on average.

I'll then look to see if I can find a supplier for it on wholesale site uch like Alibaba.com

I never got into selling old stuff from my house but I'm sue you can. I ALWYAS give the market what they want instead of what I think sales.

    Cheers!

    • Let's not forget that eBay now charges you a fee on shipping.

Yes, if you charge your customer $5.00 for shipping, eBay takes part of that for themselves.

I think they're trying to get people to offer free shipping, but as we all know "free" shipping isn't free to the seller.

This is ridiculous and frustrating, but I see why they had to do this. There were a lot of sellers who would list an item for 99 cents and charge $37 for shipping. Those morons are the reason everyone got punished. However I recover my ebay fees by charging 2x the actual shipping cost. My DSR is 4.9 for shipping and 5.0 for item and communication.

About "completed listings" : this is totally unreliable!
A BIN list can sell 1000 items, then when the seller removes it for any reason it appears as unsold.
I think you can say in general that the "completed listings" things should be taken seriously only if you look at auction style sales...

I'm what many would probably call a casual seller.

My wife's hobby is entering online contests and sweepstakes, and she wins a lot of stuff. Many times, she doesn't get the prize she really wants and ends up with merchandise we'll never use.

I do a quick check on completed sales, and if there's any interest, I'll throw up a listing and see what happens. Lots of people complain about the fees, but when your cost of acquisition is zero, whatever is left is all profit anyway. We get some money, someone gets some use out of something that would just collect dust in our garage.

Pretty good deal all the way around...
