Has anyone noticed (that sells on fiverr) that they have recently changed the way they rank gigs. It seems now that it is based purely on how old a gig is if it contains that keyword.

I think this is pretty poor on their part, how is someone who is starting out supposed to be found in their search (excluding outside promotion)

I don't think it is the age but more on the quality reviews that the gig get. If you're a new gig then you simply let people in a good deal for the first 50 or first 30 gigs in order to motivate them to buy.

    Try this for example. http://fiverr.com/gigs/search?query=...klinks&x=0&y=0

The first one is 2 years old and has good reviews
The second is over a year old and only has 1 review
    ...

If you keep going down the trend continues with age.

I think it depends on the keyword you used to search for it. What did you use?

So looking at the top 6 listings (jn terms of age) in Auto for that phrase.

          Gig 1) Over 1 year
          Gig 2) Over 1 year
          Gig 3) About 1 year
          Gig 4) 10 months ago
          Gig 5) 8 months ago
          Gig 6) 8 months ago

It's the same trend with any keyword or phrase now. If you start a new gig and hope the rank in "Auto" it doesn't look good

For "Haz video" though I see you

Nice one! Video's is the latest secret to get great positioning in the rankings.

      Fiverr loves them!

yeah might be they have changed the search results a bit. Its tough to find good service when the do rankings like that. And if you are a newbie wanting to sell there its not going to be easy, it will test your patience

Hmmm. I saw many complaints about fiverr. They suspend accounts without any reason

If your gig is in one of the creative categories and it's your first gig, you'll get a first-page bounce, which is very nice for garnering orders.

SEO/sleaze gigs are never going to get the first page positioning. If Fiverr allowed that, people would be creating fake accounts all day long and posting their SEO gigs over and over.

I don't mind them changing the way they rank the gigs, but basing it purely on age of the gig isn't a good way to go about this. Age should be considered, along with amount of orders complete on time, positive feedback and whatever else is useful. Just because I started a gig first doesn't mean you should be at the top.

It was extremely easy to rank at the top of Fiverr previously for keywords (just pure keyword stuffing) and I'm glad they've stopped that but I just don't agree on a pure age based search algorithm

I am defiantly going to consider adding a video onto my gig as this may improve my ranking in yet another category.
I am relitvly new there but having a lot of success with my 3 gigs listed there. I am making a profit of $1000 per month and my gigs take just minutes for me to complete.

I am listed pretty high up under rating and also have been ranked as an express gig.

Age has nothing to do with it, but quality measure by order count and rating. Older gigs have more orders and more feedbacks - this is why older gigs have higher ranking, but it's not the age that does it.

Besides, what would you do if you owned Fiverr? Ordering search results by age, which is useless, or ordering by quality? I think the answer is clear.

Just have a good gig and present it well, and you will get customers.

@Arroway, they changed the way gigs rank on the weekend. Try ANY keyword term and look at the trend on auto (not express, Haz video etc). They all rank by age. If you can show me where this isn't the case any more then I'll eat my hat.

They have done it by age for a simple reason, keyword stuffing was working way too well for many people.
