Would you buy an offer from someone who is banned?

I was thinking to purchase something today, and it turned out the seller is currently banned here on the forum.

I don't know if this is temporary or permanent as I haven't gotten that far yet. I suspect it is temporary.

I'm more curious what the ban is about as I know there are some good people here who get banned from time to time but it has nothing to do with their actual product.

When you see someone banned do you automatically assume they must have scammed someone? Or do you perhaps think they are a risk taker and maybe took too big a risk with something? Is someones (possible) inadvertent breaking of the rules enough cause to add them to your ignore list?

Does the word banned under someones name send you running?

If I already knew and trusted the person, no problem -- I'd still buy. Because I'd probably figure the person was banned for doing something like, ohhhh... being overzealous in their promotions on the main forum, running off at the mouth, etc. Nothing to do with their actual product.

Now if I didn't know the person, and the offer was mildly interesting to me, I probably would just skip it. If it was more than mildly interesting, I might dig deeper to find out the reason for the banning (e.g., to see if had anything to do with the product or seller's reptuation, ability to provide customer service, etc).

Of course the thread might hold clues, as well as prior WSOs from the seller. (One would hope that if the person was banned for scamming, then his/her offers would be shut down too.)

Bottom line: No, the word "Banned" under a username doesn't make me automatically run in the other direction. Killer bees do, though.

If I trusted the person I would definitely buy an offer from them. They could easily have been banned for a number of different reasons. If you are not familiar with the person then I may wait and see why they were banned.

Honestly, being banned for scamming someone never occurred to me. I always assumed that the bannee's mouth (via their fingers, of course) is what made them the target of Maxwell's silver hammer. I guess I need to wise up a little, eh?

I would definitely buy if he's a reliable guy and was banned for an offense which is totally irrelevant of his products/service/reliability. It totally depends on what type of offense he did.

Depends on why he was banned. If not sure I think I would not bother personally

I suppose it probably depends on how much the thing costs and how you'll be paying for it. I've never tried it, but they say paypal is pretty easy to get your money back if you were scammed...just click a couple buttons. So if the thing was relatively cheap, and ordering was through paypal, I'd probably go for it.

      Jill,

Yep. Bans are often for things that have no connection with a member's products or reliability as a merchant.

While it's not a universal rule, one indicator is the commentary in the sales thread. If it's more than a page long, look at the last page or two. If it's all still positive, that's a sign the ban probably has nothing to do with their product.

I have to say, I was pleased to see that most of the replies had the right perspective. It's a personal judgment call, as people can get banned for stuff that doesn't affect their customers at all. That's one reason we require sellers to have some way for customers to contact them that doesn't involve the forum.

If you can gather good information on how reputable the seller is and all checks out, I'd say go for it. If not, don't bother.

If I've already worked with the person and knew them to be a quality person then I might be ok. If not, I'd probably just ignore.

....Does the word banned under someones name send you running?
In the old days I would have said yes, but today, no. Because I'm a bit more familiar on what causes banning. I've seen some well-known marketers get banned for breaking a rule and sometimes they weren't aware of the rule.

There are all sorts of reasons for why someone gets banned. I look at the whole picture. Who is the person? Have I done business with them before? What's their reputation like in and out of the forum?

So no, the banning in and of itself does not deter me from buying, all it does it give me pause to do a little more research than I normally would.

I have shied away from a product after I saw the user was banned. Like you said, we don't know the situation that took place. It could be nothing.

But I know that left sidebar on this forum gives a boost to every action you take if you have contributed.

If you take a look at the rules it says that just because someone was banned doesn't mean they're a bad person and they say it shouldn't be held against them. I was banned once for reposting something from a thread that was deleted. It can happen to pretty much anyone so that in and of itself shouldn't be a concern.

Wouldn't bother me, but I would read the whole sales thread to the end. It's usually pretty obvious when a sales thread has gone bad. If there's nothing wrong with the sales thread, I wouldn't hesitate if I wanted the product.

Some members (maybe as part of their 12 step warrior program?:-) ) even ask to be banned to keep them away and get some work done.

Also - if you play the game hard you're bound to get called off sides sometimes - if its not a recurring theme then I, as others indicate, put it to high emotions rather than nefarious deeds...

I would not immediately make a call until I looked around. Even if the user isn't banned - if they are new - I still look at their posts and see if they've been contributing or if they are just here to sell. No problems with that either - its just another data point in my evaluation. Everyone should take the responsibility to vett their own purchases....

It depends on many factors, for instance if I happen to know the seller or was recommended, the sales letter/ thread looked pretty decent and how bad I want the product. Also I usually scan the last pages on the thread, if it happens to have more than one page.
